Why do some people look completely different in photos?

I've seen pictures of people, mostly girls, that look like absolute sh!t in pictures and then I see them in real life and they are really cute/hot. The basics of their face is the same, but for some reason something gets gained or lost in translation and they turn out looking horrible. I've passed up on blind dates because of this and then met the girl later and she was really good-looking.

But other people will look exactly the same in RL and in pics.

Whats the deal with this? I guess this is where the whole basis of "photogenic" comes from, eh?

Angles, lighting, etc. Photos can amplify and define flaws that would be unnoticeable in real life.
It could go the other way too.

haha yeah. I had a couple chicks I wouldn't let my friends see until they met her in person. I'd take 10 pics of this one really cute girl I know thinking ONE of them has to turn out hot but they all make her look nearly fugly. Wtf? Kinda pisses me off.

every pic i have of her is the same damn angle. she literally made her friends delete pics they took of her where she wasn't at that angle whenever we were all hanging out and she makes people take pics off facebook and untag her

Yeah, I often look type ugly in pictures. Though it's possible that I'm just ugly and don't realize it. :confusedshrug:
