Gran Turismo 5 out 11/24/10 Finally!. GT 6 in development.

Anyone patiently waiting for this? I don't even have a PS3, but I am literally waiting for this game to come out to buy one. I'm gonna start a PS3 account and drop $ in there whenever possible starting in January.

I'm probably gonna dissappear for about 6 months after I get this, too.

1000 cars, 70 circuits. I wasn't as excited to hear about Lamborghini finally getting licensed, but I was for Tesla. Bugatti ain't bad, either. I don't care much for the Veyron, but they've made some insane super-cars in the past that are often overlooked.

And plus, this one will have an extensive damage engine with the possibility to overturn cars.

Honestly, It's not even a game, this sh*t is serious. It's a simulator. No button mashing, no cheap strategy, this takes will and concentration.

Yeah, I feel you. I've been into cars my whole life, but when I was younger, it was just muscle cars and straight line power. My tastes have matured to Exotics and F1. Style and class, beautiful Italian design and the unique whine of F1 exhaust. It completes me.

I never played GT before, but once I heard about it, around the same time I became obsessed with vintage Ferrari's, I popped an immediate boner.

And plus, God Of War III is coming out in March 2010, as well. And that might be my favorite game series of all time behind Twisted Metal and Tekken.

I think you are in for a let down. I am a hardcore GT fan, and Forza fan.

I bought GT5 Prologue the day it came out... and I've sat back and watch update after update as they water down the difficulty each time.... suddenly it feels like I'm racing in Need For Speed.

I expect the same thing once the final version drops. Kids will cry and complain it's too hard, and they will keep f*cking with the physics until it pleases them.

All manufacturers care about is sales. They will mostly try and stick to the formula that made them famous which was a very realistic racing game, but the end task is pleasing consumers, and driving more sales.

Just setup my home race simulator today. Using an Obutto game cockpit + Logitech G27 race wheel + 40" Sony Bravia 1080p LCD.

Still waiting for my new Sony 5.1 wireless surround sound system in the mail, and probably going to buy a Buttkicker pro gamer 2 today.

I am really considering getting a wheel for when this game comes out.

I've been looking for stands and there seems to be a consensus on the internet that this place http://www.wheelstandpro.com/ makes really good ones. Anyone have an experience with these? My setup would be on hardwood so would I have to do jam something behind to stop it from sliding?

I might throw a part of my work bonus in December on a wheel + stand.

Yea I'm sure you can slap together a makeshift stand out of something or use a tray. But I wouldn't mind splurging on a good metal adjustable stand (and wheel) since it's probably a game that will last for years and hopefully this would be compatible for future versions as well.

My brother got Prolouge, and it was a disappointing waste of money. The racing was cool and all, but all my favorite aspects of GT weren't in it. The cool showrooms and being able to buy parts to upgrade your cars. . .and increase your collection, etc.

But yeah. . .I'll get it, just not hyped over it anymore. Sort of like the Duke Nukem Forever thread that I thought was a joke when I first read it. I figured that game would never be released. . .so I had to look up info about it to find out it was actually true. GT5 is basically one notch below that. :\

Obviously GT6 is going to use the same engine/graphics, and will just have new modes. Likely it will be released in a year and a half or so after GT5, and be much better.

Kind of a douche move, but that's how gaming companies make money now. That and selling parts of the game that have already been programmed and intended for the game as DLC.

After countless delays and false starts Gran Turismo 5 has been given a final release date, with Sony and Polyphony's PlayStation 3 exclusive driving game now slated for November 24.

The news should hopefully herald the end of an ongoing saga as the game missed its initial street date earlier this month and was subject to speculation that it wouldn't see the light of day this year.

Recent news that retail discs for Gran Turismo 5 were in production should help ease any fears that the game could be delayed again, and videos cropping up on YouTube suggest the final boxed copy has even made it out into the hands of some lucky players.

Gran Turismo 5 was first officially announced in 2006, since when its Microsoft rival Forza has seen two full instalments on the Xbox 360. Thankfully, it's looking like it'll be worth the wait.

it's the same as films, Games have to be made into 3d, it's a long and difficult process so it wont be done for a few more years.

Yeah that's what I'm goin' with too. You'll basically be able to compete in 85-90% of the non-limited races off jump without having to work your way up to buy or win a good car.

Don't know about free-roam, but I've done some online racing on GT5P, and it was chill. The game generates races every 10 minutes or so and you can join whichever you like. The latency is usually decent, but the biggest problem is that one player is the 'host', so if he gives up, the race ends. GT players are usually pretty legit though and stay the whole race, at least the people playing GT5P are.

Oh good, that's a relief then. I was worried it had arcade racer-level damage, which would SUCK for long races. Car damage is great for short races, but for the longer ones it's just a huge, huge burden.

Thinking about the game right now, I'm wondering a few things.

Cars are becoming so advanced, that some pretty much require paddle shifters because humans aren't fast enough with the classic clutch and shifter to shift fast enough without red-lining. I wonder if It's like that in the game. Like, you'll suffer if you use the clutch and shifter setup rather than the paddle setup on racing wheels like the G27.

Or if It's an older car, would the option for paddle shifters even be available?

I think there's gonna be different damage models for the Premium Cars and Standard Cars. You're probably gonna be able to damage the Premium Cars pretty badly.

Changed my mind. I think I'm just gonna go with the DFGT wheel. The difference between $129.99 and $329.99 (cheapest G27 I've seen) seems huge. I have trouble believing that the difference in experience is worth almost 3x the price.

The load times are pretty bad though, even with the install. Not really getting into the races (that was fine) but navigating the menus takes longer than it should. I waited for 20 seconds just for the game to switch from "miles" to "km". Then another 15 seconds to get out of the options menu. Sure it seems trivial but it's going through the menus!

It definitely suffers from ATROCIOUS loading times if you don't install.

I had the same reaction as you, "8 gigs? LOL. No." Trying to play it without installing though. ..ugh. There's like a nearly 1 minute loading time when you go from the dealership page to your My Home page. Restarting a license test takes like 30 seconds.

It's not quite at the "unplayable" barrier, but the loading times are certainly very bad if you don't install. It got to the point I'm looking for something to watch on tv while waiting for it to load. It's literally that bad.


Fun game so far though, right now I'm doing the ever-so-exciting license tests :P Just started them though. . .so I'm only on test 5 for the B license, and am having trouble Golding it. Closest I've gotten was within 0.152 of gold.

The game does installs as you play, so loading times actually get faster the more you play... at least this has been my experience so far.



Overall, I'm loving the game. Starting off was too easy for me... but that might have more to do with my experience and gaming setup.



Just bought and pimped out a '69 Chevy Camaro SS... now I'm enjoying drifting this badboy through turns... trying to beat the pre-79 Supercar challenge... but some of these old Corvettes and Lambo's are fast.

I installed the massive 8 gigs and the load times are about what they used to be in GT3 and GT4. That is to say, not too bad at all. Except sometimes there's still an inexplicable 30-50 second load time when going back to your House/Garage (typed "garbage" at first, freudian slip maybe since my cars are garbage). It doesn't always happen, but on in every 3-5 trtps back to the house it seems to happen.


Anyway, I just got my B license. I been trying to gold every test as usual, but I can't manage it for a couple of those first tests. This is the first GT where I haven't been able to gold every test from at least the first two licenses. Last GT was the first time I couldn't gold the all third license tests (To get the elusive Dome Zero)

The rewards are a joke for getting all bronze and all silver. Crappy Demio for bronze, and a lame Daihatsu OFC-1 for all silver. Gonna do the next two tests later and post the car rewards if anyone wants me to.

If you fully paid for it, they have to hold it until you pick it up. At the Gamestop I used to work at, they had a seperate cabinet for reserved games. Not sure if they all do it that way though.

Okay, so apparently I was wrong, and the G27 paddle shifters work on every car... I only use them for the cars that really have them though.



Quick tip; try out the B-Spec mode. It isn't all that much fun (IMO), but beating tracks gives you rewards that can be used in A-Spec mode... just food for thought.

There are other games exclusive to PS3 that justifies spending the money on a PS3. Uncharted, Killzone, Metal Gear 4, Infamous, God of war are all exclusives and are all great games.

On top of that you get a blu ray player aswell.

I'm not even a car enthusiast but I love this game. It has tons of options and it's overall fun. I think some of the relatively negative (really, 8/10 is not "negative") reviews are due to expectations based on previous games and the development cycle. That's fair though. When you set a bar as high as the previous games apparently set, you need to deliver after so many years. I never owned any of the previous games (only played GT2 a bit) so I didn't come in with those expectations and that helps me enjoy the hell out of this game.

I would say yes because I think it's a game that is going to have some big ongoing support through patches to fine-tun the online play as well as other aspects that people have been harping about. Plus we all know GT6 probably won't be coming out until 2019.

I haven't played it much (need my full wheel setup first) but it's gotten overall very good initial reviews. It's a game that will probably have a good bit of longevity and value to it.
