Seriously. These dudes basically invented both electronic and hip-hop music on their own.

How did they invent hip hop? They have been sampled a ton(see Planet Rock), but how did they invent it?

Planet Rock, which could be considered one of hiphop's pioneering tracks was based on a Kraftwerk sample. I realize it's kinda farfetched but it still is remarkable to say the least.

i would say they as well as the prodigy are the two greatest dance groups of all time.

Can't be compared. The Prodigy are great but Kraftwerk created electronic music by themselves (I guess Jean-Michel Jarre and Karlheinz Stockhausen deserve some credit as well.) It's like comparing Shaggy to Bob Marley.

If we wanna go that route, all roads eventually end up pointing to one band.

Some might argue that musique concrete's creator is the godfather of it all, but The Beatles made electronic music and sampling what it is.

Kraftwerk not only made great music, they built their own instruments. They basically invented the drumpad among other things.

Nah, you could argue that the Beatles invented sampling (sort of) but geniuses such as Edgard Var

i LOVE kraftwerk, but to say they invented hip hop is erroneous. james brown played a MUCH larger role than kraftwerk.

Its fine to say that the Beatles didn't invent sampling.
Its fine to say that the Beatles didn't invent electronic music.
Its fine to say that Kraftwerk is the best electronic music group ever.
But its NOT fine to say that Kraftwerk is the "Greatest band ever".
Electronic... possibly.
But overall? NOPE
That honor of GOAT band goes to The Beatles.

Fixed.
They are definitely one of the greatest, but just like bball rankings it's personal preference.
Not to argue that, but I just wanna concentrate on the 'consensus' part in general.
At what point does a 'consensus' become a fact?
How much of a majority does it need for it to be THE best or THE whatever?
Lets say the consensus was:
With 98% of the votes, the consensus greatest mints are Altoids (I happen to have them in front of me).
At what point is it safe to say that Altoids is without a doubt THE best mints?
99.9%?
Will that ever be the case in anything?
Just wondering.

I wasn't being entirely serious. In fact I was quite wasted when I posted that.
But imo there can be no such thing as a GOAT band. Music isn't a quantifiable thing like basketball or something like that. It's about emotions. The Beatles don't do sh!t for some people. In fact, I prefer listening to Gong or My Bloody Valentine over listening to the Beatles. Does that make them better? No, ofcourse not. You could say that the Beatles are the most influential band and that fact alone makes them the best, but imo their innovations had more to do with society than music. They basically popularized music. Still, I think there are bands who are equally as innovating. The Beatles did not invent music.
I love Kraftwerk. They are i the conversation for goat, and that is all that needs to be said.

lets clear one thing up. if we are to say kraftwerk is the goat electronic group/artist of all time, then it is atrocious to say prodigy would be shaggy to kraftwerk's bob marley. if kraftwerk was bob marley, then prodigy would be the second best reggae group of all time. i mean shaggy wasn't even average while prodigy is easily a top 3 electronic group of all time. whoever made that comparison i hope was purposely exaggerating rather than just being a complete moron.

Beatles are great songwriters, great innovators, but definately not the best band ever.
The Who are a much better band, they are the best performers and they play better and have more stage presence. Beatles quit performing live cus they got shook when the Who came out.
Townsend, Moon, Entwhistle, beatles can't compare, and Daughtry is a great frontman who doesnt distract from them.

Except Leon Theremin invented electronic music in the 1920's.

Two years before Kraftwerk formed Wendy Carlos was playing Bach using a Moog synthesizer for all the music. Moog got his start manufacturing Theremins before he created his synthesizer.
