And so could a handful of other women.. no joke. Some of the WNBA girls are legit ballers...
ignore the fact that they are physically inferior.. because all that really matters is their overall BBall IQ which, safe to say, easily surpasses 90% of NBA Players, most of whom are more concerned with their stats, $$$, and women then winning a ballgame. (WNBA girls have the the Larry Bird effect of mind over matter)
Watch some WNBA games next year.. better yet, go actually attend some. Tickets are only like 10 bucks and you sit courtside/lower level.. you'll see what I see.

Diana could play the 3rd string PG for a quality team... like the Spurs or Lakers.. she'd defintely need to be in a quality system..
She wouldnt get many minutes, and probably would go a few games without playing.. but Im telling you, put a jersey on her back and she fits on a team's 12 man roster.

That's a pretty large fact we'd be ignoring here. I just cannot see how she or any other woman wouldn't be a huge liability on defense. Outmuscled for every rebound, not being able to defend a jumpshot as well due to not being as athletic, and would probably be dominated in the post if whoever she was guarding had some half decent post game. Offensively, maybe she could knock down a couple of shots, but she sure as hell ain't staying in the game too long.

How is she going to compete against taller, faster, stronger, competition?
Honestly, no knock on the wnba, but making them play nba competition is like the looney toons playing the Monstars in Space Jam.
Women and Men are so physically different, that it wouldnt be fair.
You're right though, the women's game is much more mental.

lol i'm pretty sure any half decent playground baller could easily go up against a wnba player. they're slow, weak, and clumsy for the most part. i'm not gonna deny that they play smart on the court though, after all that's the only aspect of the game they could actually match up with against nba players. but they just plaiin suck..
wnba game:
- inbounds ball to point guard
- point guard tries to crossover but fumbles the ball on the way to the rim
- opposing player steals the ball and tries to make an outlet pass
- outlet pass is stolen.. girl feeds the center in the post
- post player does some awkward post move and throws up an air ball
- people scramble in the post for the ball
- ref blows the whistle... TRAVEL

Diana Taurasi couldn't effectively play minutes for a decent men's D-2 college team, unless the dudes were letting her go by and purposefully not bodying her up, and playing soft.
Sorry if you don't like the truth, but if you stay quiet, you won't have to suffer hearing the truth.
She might be D-2 caliber if she had some star teammates to get her open looks. Shooting ability does transfer across the sexes. She'd get murdered on D though.

I don't neccsesarily think that women have higher BBall IQs. That's just a myth because people are trained to say that if somebody is worse at one thing, it means they're better at another thing.
I watched the WNBA all-star game a couple years ago, and it was just embarresingly bad. These supposedly elite players were all chucking shots from their waist, which would get swatted to the bleachers in the NBA, and then they spent two minutes of actual game time trying to have a dunk contest.... except that not one of them could dunk.

I'm always intrigued by stuff like this. I hate speculation though. I wish a team would just make it happen some time (New Jersey?) so we can see once and for all.
Four-time UCLA All-American Ann Meyers was invited to Pacers camp in 1979 but 1) it was suspected as a publicity stunt and 2) it was 30 years ago. The woman's game has made astronomical strides in the times since, so I'm not sure how much merit can be put into Meyers' tryout in terms of how it'd work out for a woman in todays' game.
Here's a short explanation on Meyers' tryout with Indiana: http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/question_060831.html

She's probably a better defender than Steve Nash.
I think she could play some limited pg minutes and be minimally effective.
adamcz
12-04-2009, 12:24 PM
Nash isn't as bad a defender as people think he is. He isn't good either, but people forget to consider that the Suns play at such a fast pace, that their are more possessions in the game - that means everybody on both squads' stats get inflated a little bit. It's not as if opposing point guards are doubling their season stats against him.
And he's crafty in the passing lanes, and takes good charges. There are worse defenders out there. I sort of doubt that Taurasi, being slower than Nash without being stronger, would be a better defender.

That was a complete publicity stunt. There was absolutely no intention for her to actually make the team. They were just coming off a Jerry's Kids style telethon to raise money to keep the team in Indy.
So yeah, given the current state of things, I'd try it again and give Tamika Catchings a tryout. Bet Murphy couldn't back her down on the post.

Yeah right keep thinking that. There are guys legit players in the D-League,college, in the streets, in jail and overseas who are gamers and they can't even make an NBA rosters. yet a 6'0 ft female who doesn't even have elite female athletism can make a roster give me a break OP.
A post like that shows you haven't played much basketball growning up or even watched women basketball, or even played against them or you would know that even the very best of femlaes ballersare physically incapable of compete with men even at a HS level let alone a pro level.

yeah, but their athletism and strength is too much for Diana to handle. She would get blocked everytime down, never get a clean look and won't be able to box any of them out for a rebound.
I am not saying she is a scrub. She just physically incapable of competiting with college or pro players. She would have a tough time competiting against average high school players. The difference in athletism is pretty big. Even the best females Jamacian/US Olympian sprinters wouldn't come close to winning a state champion in HS if they had to compete with guys, just physically incapable. Guys have more muscle mass.

Diana Taurasi is my favorite WNBA player and I have a lot of respect for her and her game. She is fun to watch and has great handles and a killer shot. That being said, she couldnt survive in the men's NCAA league and would get killed in the NBA. She'd be a good passer and spot up shooter.. but that's about it.
Reasons:
Imagine her taking a charge in the NBA.
Imagine her getting posted up.
Imagine her staying in front of an NBA PG driving to the hoop, her defense wouldnt stand a chance against NBA guards. They'd be too fast, too quick and most of all- too strong.
She wouldnt be able to blow by defenders like she does now. She'd probably lack speed and won't be strong enough to handle the bumps on her way to the rim.
She is short for NBA terms and doesnt get up on her shots, doesnt work against athletic NBA defenders.
This isnt a knock on the WNBA or Diana. She is one of the best female basketball players in the world and that's the best she can be right? She's not a man, will never be a man. I'm not sexist, but men are better in most sports :confusedshrug: facts.
Here's something from sports illustrated about women vs men in tennis:
Chris Evert has said when she and John Lloyd played practice sets, she was lucky to get a game. She was No. 1 in the world; he was barely top 100. Nadia Petrova used to practice with the Yale men's team and allegedly had a hard time keeping pace. Of course, Karsten Braasch, the chain-smoking German, beat the Williams sisters a decade or so ago.
Let's stop this discussion and enjoy the women's game (for those who enjoy it) for what it is and stop comparing it to the men's game :confusedshrug:
