View Full Version : Sports Illustrated: "Inch by Inch - The All-Time, All-Size All-Stars".

Manute for Ever!

This is an article from Sports Illustrated's "The Basketball Book". I can't find a link for it, so I'm just typing it out.

Who's the best at every size? Bird or Magic? Elgin or Oscar? Wilt or Shaq?
The arguments with the heights themselves: Was Russell 6'9" or 6'10"? Was Manute 7'7" or "only" 7'6"? Did Walton insist he 6'11" only because he didn't want to be regarded as a seven-foot freak? And how many shorter guys tacked on an extra inch or two?
We consulted the best availabe sources and rounded upward. Then we got down to the nitty-gritty and made the tough calls on the best at each height. For the sake of continuing those worthy arguments, we've also listed the runners-up.

Ilgauskas over Sabonis? serious?

Sabonis in his prime is probably one of the ten greatest centers ever.
I agree, it's plain retarded.

That's kinda what I was hoping for when I started the thread, it's been pretty dull around here recently :D

candace parker over wade

That's what I thought too. There must be over 1000 guys who've played in the NBA at 6-4 that deserve to be up there before Parker.

Bird was unquestionably taller than Magic. EIther Magic is 6'8" or Bird is 6'10". It wasn't some half inch difference, either.

I think some of these are off. Actually, a lot. Steve Nash is 6'3"...? Hakeem was a full 7'0"...? Bob Cousy was a better basketball player than John Stockton and Isaiah Thomas...? Isn't it safe to throw 'Bron up there already...?

Bleh...

I think that even if Shawn Bradley is the only 7'6" player EVER, she should not be on the list.
