Hmmm.......OKC basically bought Maynor from Jazz......in the form of taking on Harpring's contract.....

Interesting......

This doesn't make sense to me. Maynor proved himself in 20 games to be a reliable backup/spot starter. They wanted to dump Harpring's contract, they could have done so this offseason.

Nice move by the Thunder.

Once again, someone does understand how salary cap, luxury tax, and contracts work.

I understand the move for financial reasons, but why Maynor? He's the only backup PG we have... and no, Price does not count.

As far as Maynor goes, he's a very mediocre backup. Some day he'll probably be a high quality backup PG, but not likely to start much in his career. He'll have a role in the NBA for quite a while, just not to the tune of starting the game.

If the Jazz had another backup PG I wouldn't mind this trade.

EDIT:

Matt Harpring is owed $6.5M for this season. Eric Maynor $1.3M. The Jazz dumped ~$15M off this season's payroll including the luxury tax

And the Thunder waived Shaun Livingston to make room for Maynor.

Maynor was the PG I was hoping the Mavs would draft last year with their late first round pick. (I'm pleased with Rorigue whom they selected I just didn't know anything about him at the time.)

Nice. Westbrook is a dumb PG, borderline retard. this should help them have some normalcy at point more than an erratic driving chucker.

Another brilliant move by Presti. Cutting Livingston was calateral damage though, which is the only down side. I was hoping Shaun would be able to play again.

They are under the cap, so they don't really have any issues on taking on the salary.

I am wondering, did Harpring refuse to "medically retire?"

I think he said he still wants to play. Which is why Utah traded him, otherwise they could have gotten some $ back if he was to retire due to inability to play physically.

Exactly what I was thinking we were finally getting a decent back up pg >_>

Does he want Deron to have to play insane mins or something?

To be fair, yes. Maynor looked okay with potential, but he wasn't quite decent yet. He's still a rookie after all.

This saves Jazz a TON of money. Harpring and Maynor's salary, and luxury tax implications. That might be close to $10 million savings.

My God how I would've loved this move for the Pacers. OKC's GM is working magic.

Great pick-up by OKC. A young talented team just get's better.

I was surprised the Jazz traded Maynard. He was impressive in the game I saw against the Raps. I heard he was struggling learning the offence. Not sure how true that is.

Westbrook\Maynard will be a nice PG tandem.

This is a great move by the Thunder I'd say to slide in and do this move. It doesn't have any adverse effects on the Thunder really and Maynor is another good piece off the bench. I really like the rookie Maynor+Harden backcourt off the bench.

Can't believe the Jazz are so far over the cap though, they really messed up with their money spending somewhere along the line because they are not getting their money's worth out of that team, despite the talent on the roster.

Great move by Presti, the guy is a genius. I haven't seen Maynor play this season, Im looking forward to it.

I'm getting jealous of how smartly okc is being put together- wish this team was in seattle

Okc will also have 2 picks in the teens (at one time thought maybe to be to 10)- without having to use 1 on pg that could set okc to make a splash in the draft and trade in for motiejunas or monroe

I really like the value they get on all their picks including ibaka and even the late pick they traded for sefalosha and was never a fan of mullins but they got him so late its an ok gamble

If they keep their picks in the teens I thought they'd go for willie warren and robert sacre 7 ftr from gonzaga- now maybe its both 4/5's or package those picks and/or others to move up
