"Who Says," "Assassin," "New Deep," "Why Georgia" are songs that only could have been made this decade. Nobody quite captures 21st century alienation and fragmentation and yearning for something real quite like John Mayer.

I mean anyone with a Y chromosome is going to get tired of his voice eventually, but in moderate doses Mayer is pretty clearly the best musical act out right now, at least in the mainstream eye.

I agree with this. Is his newest album worth checking out? I thought he made good strides with Continuum but I listened to a couple of songs off of Battle studies on youtube and I wasn't impressed.

I thought Battle Studies was a disappointment. The only songs I kept were "Who Says" and "Assassin." "Assassin" isn't even that good a song; it's more like a song that points you in the direction of what a great song could have been, if that makes sense. I liked where he was going with it but it didn't quite come together.

"Continuum" and "Heavier Things" are probably tied for my favorite album of the 2000s.

I actually paid cash monies for Battle Studies too... in a record store. Pissed... but hey everyone makes mediocre albums.
