Well I haven't used an iPod in a long time but if you download foobar and this (http://yuo.be/ipod.php) plug-in you should be fine.

Tried foobar, after a few month all the settings would be erased and had to start over. Had no problems with Winamp / Windows Media Player for ipod

Foobar's a nice little app, and Winamp has become bloated, but I'm just so used to it I'll always use it.

Tried songbird, used to be slow, and is not too slow. Quickly improving, Songbird is also a good choice, not many big problems with it.
