This idea actually started as a school project years ago. It came from Comedy Central's list on the 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comics of All-Time. I watched that 5 part special and I noticed there was a lot of folks missing (not just blacks comics, but others in general.) I did pay attention to the "others" and noticed there were 18 blacks and 2 Latins, and an Asian. You're telling there are basically 80 funny white comics out of the 100 greatest? Well, that's how this list got started back about five years or so ago for a class ... Well, recently going through my hard drive, I forgot that I had even did this. I updated it a bit, added a few more comics and BAM, there you have, over 100 comics that will be coming throughout the month of February.

There will be comics we all know and love, then they

I‘m gonna start off with a little bonus at the 101. These three comics (all from New York City) were in the stand up comedy circle before they even knew it. They are the younger (and one older) brother’s of a couple of comedy legends (and are somewhat legends in their own right ...)

-----
101.
Tony Rock
Charlie Murphy
Shawn Wayans
-----

Tony Rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVnSYTei3NY)

Tony Rock is the latest to get started in the business, in 2000 to be exact. His brother was in the game almost 15 years before he decided he wanted to try his hand at comedy. Since then, he has hosted his own stand up comedy show on TV One titled “The Funny Spot.” He alsa made an appearance on the comeback of Def Comedy Jam in 2006.

http://www3.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Sony+PlayStation+3+Launch+Party+r0KA9GbB7sal.jpg
Charlie Murphy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eio-pArmp2U)

Charlie Murphy is a few years older than Eddie but it was more than after a decade of his little bro performing when he got his career of the ground. After doin’ bit parts on some SNL skits, he made an appearance in ‘Harlem Nights' in 1989. He started doin’ stand around 1991. He finally made a name for himself on the sketch show ‘Chappelle’s Show’ in 2003 and hosted an episode of ‘Live at Gotham’ in 2009. Latter this year, like his brother, he'll be in theaters with a stand-up special.

Shawn Wayans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcStVvA4IHE)

Shawn Wayans is the youngest of the three here, but actually started doing stand-up before the other two, way back in 1987 to be exact! He learned the game buy following his older brothers Keenen & Damon on the road and eventually opening up for one of them, Damon. He hosted "Comics Come Home 4" on Comedy Central and the MTV Movie Awards in 2000 with brother Marlon. Sister Kim is also a stand-up comic.

All three comics are currently still doing stand-up. There are many more brother duo's to appear ...

The inverter of the term “Booty Call.” He titled his first stand up special after the term in a 1994 high rated Showtime special. He was born in 1965 in Newark, New Jersey (same for his little big cousin Shaq.) He started his career in 1985. He did his comedy on Showtime at the Apollo than appeared on Def Comedy Jam in 1992 and 1993. He was actually the first performer to make it big from Def Jam, getting a hosting job on MTV for many years and appearing on their Rock N Jock B-Ball Jam specials in the 90s'. He host two stand up show’s Last Comic Standing and Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes and with these went back to his roots for his 2005 Comedy Central Special, Back To My Roots. The next year he appeared on the return of Def Comedy Jam.

29. Pigmeat Markhum

Pigmeat Markhum stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZY6qW2Aktk)

“Here Comes The Judge, Here Comes The Judge.” This man might be the first black stand-up comic as we know it today. He was born Dewey Markhum in 1904 and by 1917 was performing as a dancer with Bessie Smith. Later on he went on to perform with the likes of Milton Berle, Red Buttons in blackface. Pigmeat was in the Vaudeville era of Step'n Fetchit, Sleep'n Eat: Willie Best, Mantan Moreland and Hattie McDaniel. After World War II, he decided to lose the blackface and started doin' something called "stand-up comedy" slightly different from the comedy he and his vaudevillian buddies came from. By this time, Moms Mabley, Redd Foxx and Nipsey Russell joined the trade. By 1950, he was THE KING OF COMEDY releasing comedy albums like "Tune Me In" "The Crap Shootin' Rev" and "Would The Real Pigmeat Markham Please Sit Down." He's best know for the top ten hit from 1968 "Here Comes the Judge." He appeared on "Toast of the Town" "Rowan & Martin's Laugh In." He was the man on the Chitlin' Circuit, performing at the Regal in Chicago, Howard in DC, the Uptown in Philadelphia and of course the Apollo Theater.

28. Arsenio Hall

Arsenio Hall stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-8KG9CEmj4)

After hosting many shows in the early 80s and staring in films, this 'Black Pack' member became the first black with a late night TV show, “The Arsenio Hall Show.” Wat was goin' on before than, he was born in 1955 in Cleveland and by the age 6, was performing on stage, but not stand up just yet, he was a magician. He started performing comedy in 1977 during his college years an Ohio State then Kent State. BY the early 80's he became "Mr. Host" hosting everything from Soul Train, Solid Gold, Thicke in the Night and Half Hour Comedy Hour. When Joan Rivers decided to step down, he stepped right in as the Host for the Late Late Show on Fox. He was so good that they gave hihis own syndicated show, "The Arsenio Hall Show." His stand up was seen on Evening at the Improv, his best friend Eddie Murphy's produced Uptown Comedy Express and HBO's Comic Relief in 1989. Speaking of Eddie, he starred with him in Coming to America. He's been making a comeback this past decade hosting Star Search and many shows on the tube. Little know fact, the movie Coming to America was originally titles Quest and was to star another 'Black Pack' member, the guy is actually next on the list ...

27. Keenen Ivory Wayans

Another 'Black Pack' member, he shot to fame with the family series In Living Color in 1990, but was a fixture in comedy a decade earlier. He started his career in 1978 as a part time comic while still attending Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. By 1980, he was the hottest comic in NY not named Eddie Murphy. Eddie is actually quoted saying "I thought I was the only funny black guy in New York. Now I see there are two." He went to Hollywood to audition to pilots and got some roles like "For The Love of War" in 1983 a series and that same year did his stand up on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. After years of small roles, he finally got with his 'Black Pack' member Robert Townsend and they came up with the film "Hollywood Shuffle" in 1987. That same year, his other 'Black Pack' buddy Eddie Murphy got with him and Robert for his concert film, RAW. Now Keenen was in business, was a main performer on Townsend' specials on HBO and his own films like I'm Gonna Git U Sucka! and than In Living Color hit. This sketch show was the ultimate sketch show and nearly every member of the cast is here on this list. After ILC, he went into movies and actually back to stand up in 1999. He's performed his stand up on Evening at the Improv.

This brother rose to fame probably faster than anyone else on this list. He was born in 1964 and was raised by white foster parents after his mother a Civil Right activist could no longer care for him. He started his career in 1987 in Washington, DC, and by 1988 was in Hollywood where he was discovered by friends Robert Townsend and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Another assemble from the cast of “In Living Color.” As a Yale graduate, he went into comedy after being a theater major. At a New York city club in 1982, his first night doing comedy, he met Keenen Ivory Wayans. He said Keenen was the only comic that was nice too him and taught him many things he uses on his show today. By 1984, he was acing in the hit A Soldiers Story, their he met Robert Townsend, another inspiring comic at this time. In between sets, he would do his act, and so fourth. By the mid 80s’ David started doin’ stand up more and more, appearing on It’s Showtime at the Apollo in 1987. The next year he was back with his buddies Robert Townsend and Keene Ivory Wayans in their movies and specials. By 1990, he was on the hit TV show, In Living Color and was now headlining across the country. He would appear over the years in many television shows and awards shows as host or presenter. HE was on Saturday Night Live 3 times, (hosted twice.) In 2001, Premium Blend put him on as host. Two years later, gave him his first hour long special The Book of David: The Cult Figure's Manifesto, a hilarious special that I have not scene since 2002. That same year, his buddy from In Living Color, Jamie Foxx put him on his series Laffapalooza. Later in the decade he came out with the criminally underrated series, Chocolate News and last year, Comedy You Can Believe In on TBS.

‘Who You Wit!’ Bernard McCullough started his comedy career in his hometown of Chicago in the mid 70s‘ as a street performer. Along the way, he did odd jobs around the city along with his comedy to make ends meet. It finally paid of in 1989 when he won the Miller Genuine Draft Comedy Search hosted by Damon Wayans. After, he was opening for the likes of Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole and comic Redd Foxx. By 1991, he was performing on Def Comedy Jam and things were on the up and up. Damon Wayans remember h and put him in his film Mo Money s a doorman and he was back for the second season of Def Jam in 1992. In 1994, he put together the Who You Wit! Tour that went across the country featuring a band and dancers. It was so successful, HBO made a short live series out of it titled “Midnight Mac.” In 1997, he joined the Kings of Comedy Tout with Harvey, Ced the Ent and D.L. At the time the film was released, he was the only member to not have a television show (though he was a frequent star on Moesha.) The Bernie Mac Show premiered in 2001 and ran until 2006. In 2008, he decided that was gonna be his last year of stand up comedy. He was to release the stand up concert “The Whole Truth, Nothing but the Truth, So Help Me Mac.” Sadly, it would be his final year of stand up, s he passed away that same year.

18. Nipsey Russell
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2005/10/04/arts/Russell_184.jpg
Nipsey Russell stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Yseb6Dz8Q)

One of the first mainstream comics of the 1950s’. Nipsey was born in 1924 and by the age of six, was performing his act (singing, dancing, mc.) He attended University of Cincinnati, where he found out he loved poetry. He started out in the 1940s’ and by the 50s’ he was playing the “Catskills” or white audiences. He also played he chitlin’ circuit which included the grand Apollo Theater so he worked on his craft at both white and black clubs. He didn’t want to be known as “just” a black comic. He joined with the great Mantan Moreland as part of a successful stage show. He started getting major work in the late 50s’ and early 60s’. He released many albums during this times, As co-host on The Les Crane Show in 1965, Nipsey Russell was the first black emcee on a national television program. He is famous as a game show performer, appearing on everything from Family Feud to the Pyramid to Hollywood Squares to the Match Game. He was also very consistent in roasting the best on many of the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. His poetry is one of the reasons he’s considered one of the first rappers.

17. Robert Townsend
http://www.dreamagic.com/roger/meteorMan.gif
Robert Townsend stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ8nTrdgp_g)

A member of the famed “Black Pack.” He changed the game in 1987 With his film Hollywood Shuffle. He was born in Chicago in 1957 he got his start early. His first credit in 1971 was The Great American Dream Machine. He started performing stand up sometime in the mid 1970s. He did things here and their in the 70s and early 80 (the only one worth mentioning is A Soldiers Story where he met David Alan Grier.) 86 was a decent year, he performed his stand up on Evening at the Improv, a Rodney Dangerfield special from HBO and was a rotation host on the Late Late Show (which his ‘Black Pack‘ buddy Arsenio Hall took over …) But he found out I was harder and harder for a black man to get a decent role in a film unless it was a pimp, a hood or a rapist. His “Black Pack” buddy Keenen Ivory Wayans was experiencing the same thing, so hey put their brilliant minds together and came up with Hollywood Shuffle, an unsuspected hit. Also that year, HBO came aboard and gave him many specials, Robert Townsend and His Partners in Crime. Take No Prisoners and The Mutiny Has Just Begun followed both in 1988 and Playing the Nutroll, his last of the series in 89. These series were the front runners for In Living Color and Def Comedy Jam and included the Wayans, DAG, Tommy Davidson and Robin Harris (his best friend). He got with Wayans again for The Five Heartbeat in 1991 and in 93, Townsend Television (I would love to see some footage on this!!!) premiered on Fox. Robert performed his comedy on the 1987 HBO special Uptown Comedy Express and That‘s Adequate, he recently returned to stand up last year.

Robin Harris stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TFv2YmowJg)

Along with Charlie Barnett, he’s one of the unsung great comics who just didn’t get that time and the spotlight. Robin, like his best friend, was born in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles in the 60s’. After attending college, he started performing comedy around 1978 in small beat don clubs in the hood. By 1985, Robin was the MC for the newly opened Comedy Act Theater on Crenshaw owned and ran by Michael Williams who first met Robin five years prior. He knew Robin would be perfect for this spot, and he was right. This Theater housed the best in black comedy across the country. In the first week their, he met future friends and comics Damon Wayans and Robert Townsend. Him and Robert came real close, and Robin was hanigin’ with ‘the Black Pack’; Townsend, Damon and brother Keenen, Arsenio, Paul Mooney and the ring leader, Eddie Murphy. Robin Harris was like an urban legend, everyone heard of him, but yet never scene him, that’s because he wasn’t Hollywood (yet.) By 1988, his best friends and performer at the CAT put him on his Mutiny Has Just Begun III special in 1988, his first time on television. Keenen that put him on I’m Gonna Git U Sucka! And Eddie and Arsenio were next, on Harlem Nights and performing on late night TV. 1990 was gonna be the year of Robin. He co-starred in the it House Party, HBO gave him his own One Night Stand. It was over by then, movies, One Night Stands, comedy albums and death … Robin died unexpectedly after a sold out show back home in Chicago at the Regal. In production, three movies with Paramount, two television series, one produced by Robert Townsend. Oh, one of those films would be Bebe’s Kids. Oh, the other series was to be Def Comedy Jam, he would have been the original host as Russell Simmons got the idea from the Comedy Act Theater.

13. Sinbad
http://images.politico.com/global/sinbad.jpg
Sinbad stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgZo06eryFg)

This brother was a star comic in the 80s’ and 90s’, but he didn’t have to use curse words to make people laugh at the same time Eddie Murphy, the Wayans and the Def Jam comics were top comedians. Sinbad was born David Atkins in 1956 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Comedy wasn’t his first love, basketball was. He even was rewarded a scholarship at the University of Denver. He was so in love with the game, his comedy career didn’t start until 1983, he was almost 30. Never too late though. He got his name to fame as a finalist on Star Search. By 1986, he was on the Poverty Tour, a top tour that year. Also that year, he joined the cast of the short lived Red Foxx Show. The next years, he was starring as Coach Walter Oaks on A Different World and hosting It‘s Showtime at the Apollo. During those years, he became known as a top stand up comic and performed on many shows. He was on Robert Townsend’s second HBO special, Take No Prisoners and Comic Strip Live on Fox. In 1991, he had his first special on ABC, Sinbad and Friends All the Way Live ... Almost. The special s kept comin’ later that year HBO called his name. Brain Damaged was one of the great stand-ups (they used to run it on Comedy Central a lot.) He was back to years later with Sinbad Live from the Paramount--Afros and Bellbottoms. That same year, appeared on the short lived Comic Justice. 1993 was a good year, FOX gave him a series, The Sinbad Show, a great show that lasted one season. After taking a break to do his thing in movies, he hosted his first installment of HBO’s Sinbad's Summer Jam: '70s Soul Music Festival in 1995. Seems like this dude ran HBO in the 90s’ on of a Preachers man premiered in 1996. Three more Summer Jam’s showed the following three seasons. In the 2000s’, Sinbad kind of fell out the spotlight, though he did return as host of Showtime at the Apollo.

The final Wayans member to make the list. This Wayans brother started out hos comedy career in 1982. He actually followed his big brother to Hollywood in 1981 during pilot season (Keenen started out in 1978.) In two short years, he was in an Eddie Murphy film and took his ‘Black Pack’ buddies spot as the token black guy on Saturday Night Live in 1985. But by 86, he was fired from the show … but it didn’t mater, he was already making a name for himself in the comedy world. His stand up was showcased on the final episode of his season on SNL (they invited him back for the finale after he as fired) and Robert Townsend’s HBO’s specials. He was now doin’ movies like Colors and Earth Girls Are Easy (where he met future friend …) is friend Eddie Murphy gave him major props, sayin’ he was one of the main reasons he stopped doin’ stand up. “When You see a cat like Damon Wayans at the club, it make you wanna give up“ ”HBO gave him a One Night Stand in 1989. by 1990, was on the hottest TV show in town. His brother (along with Damon‘s help) created the series In Living Color, which featured many comics from this list as one time or another. Many of his character he created in his stand up were used for the show. Anton “the Bum” Handi-Man, the Head Detective, Ed Cash, Homeboys Shopping Network were all character from his mind. That same year, his first HBO Comedy Hour Special, The Last Stand premiered to rave reviews, and it was supposedly his last stand as he said he’s concentrate more on TV and movies. After the Last Boy Scout, he left In Living Color after the 3rd season (though he’d make many appearances in the 4th season.) But once all the Wayans left ILC, he went back to his roots, stand up comedy in 1993. He was back on HBO with another top special, Still Standing. In 2001, he starred in and created the long running ABC series, My Wife and Kids. After it’s cancellation, he returned back to his root, sketch comedy for the Showtime series ‘The Underground’ which featured Aries Spears and Damon Jr. Two years later, He did a comedy special for the first time in over ten year, the great Way Out. It aired on Comedy Central. I mentioned his son, Damon Jr. he is also a stand up comic and is pretty funny in his own right.

“The Devil Mae Me Do It!” the famous words from Flip Wilson. Before Wanda, Sheneneh, The Cafeteria Lady, Juwanna Man and hell, Madea, there was Geraldine. Born Clerow Wilson in 1933 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was one of 23 kids and was actually a trouble maker. He got the name ‘Flip’ after he enlisted in the Armed Forces and would entertain the others. Flip was so good, that other bases would ask for him to entertain them also. Upon returning home, in 1959 he was offered a regular as a comic. Flip than went on to play the chitlin’ circuit around that time, playing the Apollo Theater among others. On the chitlin circuit he met Redd Foxx, in which Redd told Johnny Carson about Flip. He appeared on his show over 25 times. Flip would make his first TV appearance on The Tonight Show in 1965. Other TV shows he appeared on at that time included The Ed Sullivan Show, The Hollywood Palace, The Joey Bishop Show, Hollywood Squares among others. He was a regular on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh In in 1968 and appeared on the show after numerous times. Around that time, he’s also cut many comedy albums. Some of those records included “Cowboys and Colored People” and “You Devil You.” He might have been the hottest black comic in that time, and NBC gave him a series, the Flip Wilson Show in 1970. It was an hour long variety series featuring sketches, stand up and musical guest. It was different not only cause he was black, but he was the star of the show. There were no regular or featured cast members, just the guest for that said episode. The show lasted until 1974, but not before featuring some of the top stars of that time like Dean Martin, The Jackson , Redd Foxx, James Brown, David Frost, Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Lily Tomlin, Richard Pryor among others. After the series, he did acting gigs here and there like The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh, and the game shows. In 1985, Charlie & Co. was his latest TV show staring him and Gladys Knight. It lasted one season. He passed away in 1998.

Eddie Murphy stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_n5JWzj6yU)

The most famous stand-up comedian ever, made stand-up what it is today. Mr. SNL, this guy was so big, he hosted SNL as a cast member. Eddie Murphy was born in 1961 on Brooklyn, New York. Eddie was always watching TV and tryin’ to be whoever was n the tide, meanwhile older brother Charlie was the complete opposite. Eddie started performing comedy at the age of 16. After getting his name know across town, he started to perform more and more, improving his skills. At this time he befriended many who’d he go on to form an association with, these included Arsenio Hall, Keenen Wayans and Robert Townsend. Another comic Charlie Barnett couldn’t read well, so they passed over him. Robert auditioned for the new season of Saturday Night Live and got the spot, until walk-in Eddie won he executives over. He was a featured player in the 1980 season but by the next, it was all Eddie., and I mean all Eddie. Eddie was all over the show, Gumby, Mr. Rodgers, JAMES BROWN, Buckwheat … you name it. By 1982, he was starring in films now like 48 Hours. 1983, was just another year for Eddie, more TV (hosting SNL!), more films which all led up to his premier stand up special on HBO. The year before, he dropped his first comedy album Eddie Murphy Live, now you could visualize it. Delirious was a monster hit. The next year would be his last on SNL and Beverly Hills Cops was released. Around this time, he would get with the hottest young black comics in the game at that time, and form a pack, ‘The Black Pack’, Robert Townsend, Paul Mooney, Keenen and Damon Wayans (Damon would slide in as the token black guy once Eddie left the series) ‘Little Money’ Arsenio Hall and ‘Eddie Money’. These brothers would work together on various project and run Hollywood. In 1987, him and various ’Black Pack’ buddies worked on films. He was with Arsenio for Coming to America, and Keenen and Robert were big parts on the biggest concert comedy ever, RAW! Also that same year, he’d produce an HBO comedy special Uptown Comedy Express. It featured Arsenio, Robert and a little know fella named Chris Rock (who Eddie had discovered a few years back and would hang with the ‘Black Pack’.) Eddie was now the man in Hollywood. In 1989, his first and only directing job Harlem Night. It featured many a comic. Eddie, bro Charlie, Robin Harris, Reynaldo Rey, Arsenio, Redd and Rich. That year, he retired from comedy. His reasons, controversy and Damon Wayans. He told Arsenio on his show “When I see cats like Damon, it make you wanna stop.” Since, he starred in many films (good and bad), recorded music and did animated series The PJs.

1. Richard Pryor

Richard Pryor stand up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtLN6le8R4g)

Rich was born in Peoria, Illinois in 1940. Richard grew up in a brothal, so he was surrounded by many things at a young age. In his early years, he joined U.S. Army in 1958. His first job in the entertainment industry was working at a bar as a drummer. Pryor started performing stand up in 1963. He was inspired by Bill Cosby and his act was totally different than what he would be known for. He started getting TV appearances like on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Ed Sullivan an his first performance in 1964 of the Kraft Music Series. He was a regular on the Vegas strip, around this time things started to change for Richard. The real Rich started coming out and in a performance, just walked of stage. His first album released in 1968, was simply titled Richard Pryor.

Now, it was the 1970, and he was in Berkley hanging out with hippies and the Black Panthers. He signed with Stax Records and was on the film WattsStax and the album That ******'s Crazy. Now he was big time, appearing on Midnight Special, Flip Wilson Show and writing for Sanford and Son and other series. Now he was with Warner Bros and the album, Is It Something I said dropped. His Saturday Night Live appearance was legendary in it's first season on NBA. NBC liked him so much, they gave him a special, and a short lived series that included Paul Mooney, Tim Reid, John Witherspoon, Robin Williams, Sandra Bernheard and Marsha Warfield. He started to get into movies at this time also. Lady Sings the Blues, The Wiz, The Mac, Stir Crazy and Silver Streak with Gene Wilder.

His stand up was starting to get filmed. First on the WattsStax special in 1973 and then a few years later with Live In Concert in 1978, Live on the Sunset Strip in 82, Here and Now in 83. Live and Smokin' was done in 1971 but released in 1985. In 86, his life story Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling and Richard played himself. He'd do a few more films over the years and stand up and received various awards up until his death shortly after his 65th birthday in 2005. Marlon Wayans is tapped to play Richard in a bio-pic directed by Chris Rock.

I don't care if Bill Cosby is funny to you or not, learn your history kid.

Pretty sure you've never even seen Bill Cosby in stand up and how important he is to the craft, black or white. Not many folks are gonna sell out for black audiences, than come back and sell out a white audience too. When every single comic on this list list BILL COSBY as one of their influences (even the cats that came before him) that should tell you something, he's probably the greatest story teller ever.

You're either really uniformed or you're showing your age and judging by the previous post you made, you're showing your age with your love for Kevin Hart. Nothin wrong with Hart, but he hasn't done anything to earn a top 5 ranking.

Lol at him being better than DL Hughley or Chris Rock.

Well to bad this isn't about influences GRANDPA

Its about whom is funnier.

DL hugley nor Chris is funnier than KEVIN HART
and I stand by my comment.

Like I said

Bill Cosby is a Curtis ****in blow
Richard pryor is RAKIM
Eddie Murphey a damn Nas/Jay z

Bill is the very basic.
He maybe a good story teller but being a ****in story teller doesn't mean your funny.

At the end of the day being a stand up comdian is being funny and have people relating to you. and BIll ****in Cosby doesn't do neither for me.

i've always said chris rock was a better comedian than david chappele, and also had the better show. i think kevin hart is rated way too low, should be in the top 20 at least. you could put two of his pieces against any of the top's body of work. also i think dl hughley is very underrated, and deservedly got his due.

great list overrall. and a nice body of work. i would've never known david alan grier went to yale or big shirley was named after shirley hemphill. kudos on the list :pimp:

If you knew your shit you would not care about any Stand Up comedian other than those who could be argued in Top 20 (regardless of race or w/e else BS category) let alone doing a Top 100 Black Stand Up Comedians. I personally prefer to watch Bill Hicks, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, Andy Parsons and a few others rather than boring myself to death trying too hard to laugh at someone cracking ripped off jokes. Stand Up is all about originality and only a limited number of people have had it in them.

He should be in the Top 20. Maybe it's because he's not your stereotypical black comedian? :confusedshrug:
What has Michael Colyar done to make it inside the top 20 list? Yes he is hilarious, he was crazy on the Shaq roast and House Party III.

Anyway, over he past 2 years, I've made additions and got rid of some comics. I moved some up, and took some down.

I'll start the new list with my subtractions.

These comics were on my fist list from two years back. They are now outside my top 100 either because they just got overlapped by other comics or new additions (AJ Johnson, Kim Coles.) Or because I looked more into their career and decided they didn

Wow, I'm sad and you think making fun of someone's dancing ability is racist ... I'm pretty sure people back in the day weren't saying, "Hey, this dude can't dance, let's beat him." It was much more serious than that bro.

Racism vs. Stereotyping. I guess when Damon Wayans made that joke about Asian's and rice, he's racist, or when George Lopez said that joke about black basketball players, I guess they're all racist?
The sad thing is most black people think like you.

I've heard this particular argument numerous times: "we (blacks) have no power so we can't be racist" when really blacks really are referring to institutional racism, which is only ONE type of racism.

There are different degrees of racism so just because it doesn't involve going out and lynching people, it doesn't mean it's not racist. Racism is an attitude and doesn't need to involve action. Look at the word, FFS. It's funny that the group that whines about racism the most is really the most inherently racist of any modern racial group. Blacks bring up race in almost every discussion, every argument. The obsession is unbelievable. I mean FFS they have a month dedicated to celebrating their own race.

For the record, this is how you differentiate between stereotyping and racism:

Stereotyping: "Blacks are dumb and violent"
Racism: "They are dumb and violent BECAUSE they're black"

Using race as the reason is what makes it racism. Believing one has inherently negative attributes due to race is what makes something racism. Whether you're cutting off heads or just pouting at people doesn't matter.

There will be comics we all know and love, then they’ll be comics that you might say (who dat.) Hell, there’s comics here that you probably didn’t even know were stand-ups at all (and me either until I did the research on them.)

I'll get the list started later today ...

Charlie Murphy is in your top 100? Dude is only famous from piggybacking off not only his famous brother but also Dave Chappelle! Did you know he regularly gets booed off the stage in his standup gigs?

In short, your list sucks and you are still a moron.

Lot of effort you put into a terrible list but I give you respect cause it's your opinion.

After I saw 19.Bernie Mac and the comics ahead of him (especially Sinbad) I realized your taste in comedy.

Anyway good effort, and btw...

Who knew there were so many Black Comedians until you made this list, props on that.

Coulda been narrowed down to about 25 or 30 due to relevancy, funniness, etc cause the rest are just about the same.

What makes Bernie much funnier than Sinbad. I've watched all of Sinbads specials and laugh a lot at all of them. I've watched all of Bernie's one special (with other comics.) One reason why Sinbad is over him, he doesn't have a ton of material to choose from.

It's pretty much subjective than objective when it comes to certain lists and this is one of 'em but it's ok because it's your view.

Sinbad has more specials that are all funny but Bernie Mac's 1 part in Kings Of Comedy is HILARIOUS and trumps all of Sinbad's specials but it's my opinion.

Perfect example is Robin Harris "Ya heh' meh!" was just on the cusp of starting his career when he tragically died, so does it mean he was funnier than peeps on the list like a Katt Williams who has put in more work than him? Who knows but you have him far ahead of Katt Williams (not that I disagree but someone might).

Point is it's all subjective cause peeps (myself and you included) may just simply "like" another comic more than another who may actually be funnier than the guy we "like" but because we "like" that comic more we can't see that comic being ahead of the one we like on a list.

Bottomline: it's your list, mine would be shorter and different, that's all.
