lifted this from a thread:

I live in an apartment complex across the street from my university, so it's almost 100% college students who live here. There is one 40-something man who lives here as well, and he's kind of in the story.

It started last Wednesday, I think. I live with my girlfriend and two other guys we knew in high school. There's a shuttle that runs back and forth between the apartment complex and the university, since so many college kids live here. Well, if you are walking to our apartment from the bus stop, you can see our balcony and two bedroom windows.
Wednesday, my girlfriend and one of the guys who lives here were walking home from the bus stop and looked up at our apartment. Normally we keep all the blinds shut because the buildings here are close to each other and people will peek in your windows, but they noticed that the blinds in my girlfriend's room were open. They could clearly see me, sitting at the desk next to the window. I was looking at the computer. They called my name and waved to me, and they said I just sort of looked at them and then got up and walked away from the window. The thing is.. I wasn't home. I was in class. Sure enough, they got to the apartment and came in and I wasn't here, and they were all freaked out. They told me about it when I got home, and it kind of scared me too, since they saw this ghost thing that was pretending to be me, but we all kind of stopped talking about it.

Nothing interesting happened on Thursday, but Friday night all four of us were home and we were sitting in the living room watching TV. It was really late, probably between 2 and 3 AM. All of a sudden, we heard this horrific noise coming from the parking lot. It sounded almost like a pig being slaughtered. It was a series of really loud grunts and groans with occasional high pitched squeals. We all looked at each other in terror for a few seconds and then ran out onto the balcony to see what it was. Once we got outside, the noise was even louder, but it ended pretty quickly. Two of the guys ran downstairs to look around the parking lot but didn't see anything, and there were no other people about from what we could tell.
The next day, I was standing at the bus stop and heard two girls talking about the noise that had woken them up last night. "Sounded like an animal being tortured." I said I heard it too, and that we had looked outside but saw nothing. They seemed freaked out.
On Saturday, maintenance found two dead cats in the bushes next to one of the gates. I only know this because they sent out notices to everyone, trying to make sure no one was missing their cat or something.

Then, there was last night, and that was the thing that made me come here. I woke up in the middle of the night for no particular reason, and heard that it was POURING rain. I love when it rains at night, so I went to look out the window at the storm for a few minutes.
To my horror, there was... something, in the parking lot. I don't know what the # it was. It looked like a tall man wearing a big coat, but there was just something not human about it. It was huddled against a lamp post that has been broken since we moved in, so I could see its outline but not any detail. I ran back to the bed and shook my girlfriend awake, bringing her to the window. By the time my girlfriend got to the window, the thing had moved and was crouching between two cars. My girlfriend thought it was a man being shady and called management, but no one picked up the 24-hour line. (That's happened before though when we called to report noise, so it isn't that freaky). The thing was moving around in between cars in the parking lot, staying mostly in the shadows.
I went out on the balcony and after a few minutes she followed me out there. We watched it for a minute or two and then I just yelled, "Hey!" at it. It stood up at full height, and was definitely too tall to be a normal sized man. It looked around for a minute and fixed its eyes on the building across from us, and then crouched down again and bolted out of the parking lot.
I looked up at where it had been staring on the building, and sitting out on his balcony smoking a cigarette was the 40-ish year old guy I mentioned before. He saw the whole thing too. I yelled, "What the # was that?" but he didn't answer me, just kept staring at where it had gone.

The next night, the people who live on the third floor (directly above us) just came down and asked us why we were banging on our ceiling, which would have meant they heard banging noises coming from their floor. We said we weren't banging on the ceiling, and they went back upstairs. It was a guy and a girl. Like two minutes later the guy came back and told us that when they walked back in their apartment, one of the dining room chairs had been turned over. Before he even left, the girl was back, saying that she heard more banging noises coming from the floor. But since their floor is our ceiling, you would assume that if something banged on either one, both of us would be able to hear it. No one heard anything in this apartment.
They went back but I think they were a little spooked.

We went and talked to the 40-ish guy right after that. He's a little bit of a redneck and really superstitious. Says he's felt weird lately. He thinks the other night was actually the second time he saw the thing, the first time being a few days before. Apparently he was up really early in the morning, when it starts to get light but before the sun comes up, and out his window he saw something just standing by the front building of the apartment complex. Just standing there. He's pretty convinced they were the same thing.
He's got a gun but doesn't want to shoot it, since this is mostly student housing and we aren't allowed to have guns.
He also said he's been having dreams that something was watching him through the window, but has no indication that the dreams are of whatever's been in the parking lot. He could just be dreaming about it because he's been thinking about it.
He told my roommates to stay inside and said to make sure our blinds are always closed. That's pretty much it.

Any ideas as to what it is??

I love shit like this. There used to be a really great ghost story website that I used to spend hours and hours of my time reading. I'm pretty sure It's not around anymore. Most of the stories were pretty tame, but then you'd get one or two a night that we so incredibly detailed and equally frightening you had a hard time not believing the author.

you guys should come down to where i live in bucks county. just to give you a little background it's one of the most historical places in the united states. the town i grew up in, 'New Hope', Pennsylvania has been voted by numerous publications as the most haunted town in America. it's featured heavily in the link i provided (shadowlands)...George Washington lived here along with various revolutionary war figures.

Not much really, I stopped reading about that stuff a while back. I got really pissed off that the Danvers State mental asylum was being torn down and luxury apartments were being built over it. I really wanted to go there and when it got torn down I just kind of stopped caring about that shit.

I lived next to a construction foreman a long time ago, back when they were still tearing down the old buildings. He wasn't working on the project himself but he had buddies who were. Anyways, he told me a story of a guy who found a pretty nice wooden table that he brought home from the asylum to use in his living room. He ended up having all sorts of weird shit start happening after he brought the table home and ended up burning the thing in the backyard after a few weeks. The problems stopped.

I hate how when you read or hear something like this you automatically start to sense fear from your surroundings. You don't want to turn around in your chair and you realize it's late, very late at night indeed and this doesn't help the situation any. Fear is man's worst enemy.

Turn around in your chair and smack fear in the face.

I love experiencing with the paranormal. Just a few weeks ago we went to an abandoned barn at around 12:00 am where supposedly you see a women dressed in white walking around at night. I swear to you we saw her, we saw a white figure left to the barn just floating around. It scared the **** out of us and we ran for it. Haven't been back since, but I want to.

I'm down, but it would have to be a pretty notorious place. Like Danvers State.

at the very least conceptually speaking it paints a very frightening picture.

ive seen enough anecdotal evidence, heard enough stories from credible god fearing folks, combined with my own first hand strange happenings in the town i grew up in/currently live in that i have no doubt that there is just some shit that can't be explained.

Going back to the story, I can't help but keep thinking about the movie The Mothman Prophecies which was a true story. Sounds to me like the 40 year-old man likes to get liquored up every night and tell fantastic tales the next morning, or he is actually having an encounter with someone or something that's out there.

Could be numerous explanations. A lot of haunted towns either sit on old Indian reservations or slave plantations and thus many haunted stories come out of that as a result.

i was 16 years old at the time. i was living with my dad in an apartment complex that was set a mile south of new hope. new hope is nestled alongside a river. alongside the river is a canal that has a path that is referred to as a towpath. in order to walk back to my dad's place i had to walk on this towpath which is very dark, very scary, and even to this day leaves you feeling unsettled. here is a photo of the towpath i was traveling on:

http://new-hope-pennsylvania.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/taking-a-stroll-along-the-canal-path-in-new-hope-pa.jpg

anyway it's late at night, maybe around 1AM. i had done this walk late at night before and always ended up running home just because i'd get easily spooked. there is a very old restaurant called 'odettes' that i pass along the walk. 'odettes' is considered very haunted, a famous news reporter in the 80s called jessica savitch died there in the 80's to go along with numerous other strange happenings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_Savitch...

On Sunday, October 23, 1983, Savitch had dinner with Martin Fischbein, vice-president of the New York Post, in New Hope, Pennsylvania. After the meal at Odette's Restaurant, they began to drive home about 7:15 pm, with Fischbein behind the wheel and Savitch in the back seat with her dog, Chewy.
Fischbein may have missed posted warning signs in a heavy rainfall, and he drove out of the wrong exit from the restaurant and up the towpath of the old Pennsylvania Canal's Delaware Division on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River. The car veered too far to the left and went over the edge into the shallow water of the canal. After falling approximately fifteen feet and landing upside down, the station wagon sank into deep mud which sealed the doors shut.
Savitch and Fischbein were trapped inside as water poured in. A local resident found the wreck at about 11:30 that night. Fischbein's body was still strapped behind the wheel, with Savitch and her dog in the rear. After the subsequent autopsies, the Bucks County coroner ruled that both had died from asphyxiation by drowning. He noted that Fischbein was apparently knocked unconscious in the wreck but Savitch had struggled to escape. There was no finding that drugs or alcohol had played any part in the crash.[2][4]

i have a zippo lighter in my hand. im sure you're are aware that zippos keep a flame very well. anyway i was nervous so i kept lighting my lighter and flicking it shut. trying to keep myself distracted on this terrible walk. as im doing this i feel a very strong gust of wind, the flame then proceeds to go out, i feel paralyzed by fear, im literally frozen. i see a woman that appeared to be in white garments standing along the bank of the canal. i closed my eyes for a moment because i thought i was seeing things, your mind can play awful tricks on you. i then hear very violent splashes of water in the canal. i glance for one second and it looked as if someone was running through the canal. i immediately ran as fast as i could back to my apartment which was maybe 1,000 yards away at this point. very scary indeed.

i'll share an even scarier story shortly.

my other story takes place around the same time period. young teenager at the time. living with my mom and step father in a condo in a town called doylestown, PA that is 15 miles away from new hope. prior to moving into the condo a woman my grandmother was friendly with died inside the condo due to health complications.

it's around 9 PM. my mom was out shopping for groceries and my step father worked in the city so he usually came home around 1030 PM. i was hanging out in my bed room which was up a flight of stairs. im naturally a jumpy person so i vividly recall feeling very uneasy at the time. i was on the phone with a girlfriend of mine at the time and i told her i loved before we hung up the phone. as soon as i got off the phone i heard a very feint voice in a whisper say "i love you". it sounded like it was coming from underneath my door, i had my door shut. my step dad was a big practical joker who loved scaring me. i figured he had gotten home early and was waiting for me to open the door and pop out around the corner and scare the shit out of. we used to do this to each other a lot. i wasn't interested in that happening for obvious reasons lol, so i stayed put in my room. i kept hearing what sounded like a very low decimal whisper speaking to me from outside the door. at this point i was sure it was him but i was still terrified.

i then took a deep breath and decided to get this over with because it was starting to seriously creep me out. i open the door, no one is there. the voice sounded like it was coming from the bottom of the stairs which wrapped around a corner so it was an ideal place to scare someone. i very carefully and timidly walked down the stairs. i called his name numerous times and he didn't respond. i knew it was unlikely that he'd be home at this hour so i figured i'd step outside and see if his car was parked out front. i go outside and no car.

i walk back in the house, run up back into my room. i called my mom because i was freaking out. she tells me not to worry and she'll be home shortly. as im speaking to her i hear a voice in a whisper mimicking all of the words im saying. im an extreme state of fear at this point. my cat is in the bedroom with me and is behaving very erratically which is not helping me relax at all. i had a plastic pair of handcuffs that were cuffed to my door knob that made a very distinct noise every time you'd open the door. it was something of a rattle. i began to hear a very loud rattle that sounded like something was trying to open my door. the sound began to intensify. i remained in my room and kept a pillow on over my head to block out the sound. after a few more minutes of this i heard my mother's voice and consequently the noises ceased and everything was seemingly fine.

i had seen a woman walking in the house before that wasn't my mother. very intense experience. my mother has some stories that i'll talk about that make my experiences seem like child's play.

Man that's phucked. Yet you wanna go hunting for more.
not necessarily hunting because that's how you get yourself into trouble (so im told by people around here) but i can definitely show you some stuff that would flip your whole world upside down.

houses that date back to the early 1700s, very old ruins over indian burial grounds, various revolutionary war figures lived here, it's a very lush rural area surrounded by tons of farm land, etc.

one of the scariest story that was ever relayed to me came from my mother. she was born and raised in italy in a house that dates back to the 1400's. she has 5 brothers and her brother who was closest to her in age shared a bedroom with her. they were very young at the time, no older than 7. they slept with a night light. my mother is woken up in the middle of the night by what she described as a very painful pinch on her chest. she opened her eyes and immediately saw her brother sound asleep in bed.

she then glanced at the wall and there was a silhouette of what she described as a demonic figure swaying back and forth on the wall. the figure was coming from the doorway. she immediately shut her eyes and forced herself to go back to sleep. i have trouble even thinking about this one.

as far as the OP is concerned - i think it's very likely that the figure that was spotted inside the apartment was the person's doppelganger which is a concept that seriously frightens me:

i have a ghost story from my mom. she tells it best, but i will try to do it justice

So back in the 60's, my mom is in HS and about 14 years old. Her and her best friend spend the night on my grandfathers boat docked at the marina in San Francisco. While they are there, they are listening to the radio and hear a report about a gruesome murder in downtown SF. Apparently a wealthy semi-famous guy killed his wife and children in their home. My mom says the radio story scared the crap out of her and her friend, so they turned off the radio and tried to sleep.

Fast forward 10 years. Its the 70's, and Mom is now a grad student at UC Berkeley. One day, a family friend phones her, and asks if she is able to house-sit for them. My mom agrees, and collects the keys to the house, which is a mini mansion right on Lombard street (very famous SF street). Mom is really excited, and immediately decides to invite some people over to get drunk and enjoy the rooftop hot tub. She collects 4 friends, including her best friend from high school, and they all set out for a night in the city.

As the group is driving toward downtown, she feels like something is not quite right. She knows she should be happy, but for some reason she is apprehensive, feeling like theres a knot in her stomach. As they get closer to the house, conversation dies down inside the car, eventually everyone is quiet. As they are pulling up to the house, my mom feels genuine fear. She looks around at her friends, who also look a little uneasy, but not wanting to ruin the night, she parks the car and the group approaches the house. My mom feels terrible, but she puts in the security code at the gate, and walks up the front door. Nobody says a word. My mom opens the door to the house and the whole group is paralyzed in place. Inside of the house, the only thing she sees is a magnificent staircase, and it is the most frightening thing my mom has seen in her life. She looks at her best friend, and the group bolts, slamming the door and running to the car. Nobody said a word until they were across the bay in Berkeley again, where my mom started crying. Everybody said that looking inside that house was the most terrifying thing they had ever seen. The thing is, nobody knew why it was terrifying. Nobody said they saw a ghost, or heard anything.... they just felt terrified, sick to their stomachs almost.

A few weeks later, the family friend is back in town. My mom drives over to drop off the key. My mom starts asking about the house, and finds out that the family friend got the house for a bargain about 10 years ago. It turns out, that the original owner had murdered his wife and children at the bottom of the staircase. When my mom heard this, she instantly thought back to the radio report she had heard as a teenager. She went to a library and pulled up some records and finds that the night which she and her friends decided to party at the house, was the exact 10 year anniversary of the night that the man murdered his wife and children which she had heard on the radio as a teenager. She finds out that her and her friends probably showed up at the house right around the same time of day the murder occurred as well.

A few years ago I went skiing in a place called Thredbo, it's in Australia. A few years earlier there was a huge landslide that killed a bunch of people. The lodge i stayed in was built on the land where the people died and i felt so uneasy in the place. I didnt know it was the same spot till my friends girlfriend told me the second night we were there. There are definitely places that have a seriously creepy uneasy vibe, even though it was a new building. Not staying there again!

i got a couple of quick stories:

i've had a cabinet door swing open and close by itself right in front of me. that was pretty strange. it was in a newly remodeled apartment that used to be one big house. they say that ghosts get pissed off when u drastically change a house they're in.

another time, in another newly built apartment built on land that used to be a church or an old school, my oldest stepdaughter woke up screaming very early in the morning. she said she had seen a small black figure leaning in the doorway and it started moving towards her. she said it was like an old woman. when she screamed ( i remember her yelling "MOMMMMMAAAA!!!) it vanished.

that same apt., my wife swore she saw things all the time. shadows darting in the kitchen and a black cloud-like shape above the kids' bunkbeds. i didn't see anything there. the crazy thing is that our neighbors next door AND across the street have seen similar figures in their houses too.

then in a house we were renting (i've lived in a gagload of places around town), my wife startled me one morning when she jumped up. i was partly awake, laying w/ my eyes closed. she said she opened her eyes and saw a person staring down at her right in the face. we knew the people who lived there right b4 us and they said the place was haunted. in the back room, the stereo would volume would go up and down all the time and they say figures around the house.

my grandmother swears the house she grew up in was haunted. it was out in the sticks and her mother and friends were really in seances and they had ghosts appear and talk and even a small table walked moved down the stairs by itself. another time, they were coming home (by horse and buggy) and were nearing the corner by their house. they saw huge flames and realized their house was on fire. they got around the corner and their house was just fine.

i almost forgot. i went to visit my friend's grave about 1.5 yrs ago w/ my kids. we were leaving and i took the long way out to check out all the cool looking gravestones. i got to a certain point in the very back of the graveyard and all of a sudden, i had an intense depressed, sad feeling come over me. it was like i just got weak and my whole body felt slumpy. i parked for a few minutes and waited for the feeling to pass. i told the kids that i was just looking around at the graves. the weird thing is that i remembered having a dream about going to the graveyard and visiting my friend's grave a while b4 i went.

I am undecided on ghosts and the paranormal, but this story of my dad and aload of his bothers is scary as shit, and whats more is knowing them i cant see them making it up. Only one of them including my dad has ever talked about it.

I will do my best to tell it anyhow.

Context

My Grandparents in Ireland own a holiday house at the foot of some mountains in county Sligo. Its very isolated and sparse. The house itself is spooky as shit. It used to be a train station before the railway line closed. The nearest house is about half a mile away and the nearest village is tiny. The place is the definition of wilderness. My dad has eight brothers and two sisters and they often go to this house as a holiday retreat, they go fishing and shooting etc. Their are a few ghost sories I have heard from my family regarding this place, but this one is the one i remeber the best.

Ok so
My dad and 4 of his brothers, Kevin, Keiron,Martin and Collum are down in the house for a weekend fishing, doing drugs and drinking etc. I believe they decided to go for a walk about nine in the evening. They were out trying to shoot foxes on etc.

They walked along the old railway line for about a mile, when they came across some old druidic burial mounds/barrows. They were not surpirised by this as their are plenty of them in this part of the world.(I have seen these paticular mounds myself) Anyway on this paticular night Keiron and Kevin felt like going over to the mounds and exploring them, and possibly trying to get inside. They all went over to the mounds to have a look around. Martin and my dad recall feeling a bit uneasy at this point . Upon getting close to the mounds the battery powered torch they were carrying gave out, apparetly for no good reason. Kevin was unphased by this wheras Martin Collum and my dad were becoming increasingly more uneasy.

Kevin and Keiron both manged to find a way into one of the barrows, they said their was not much in their at all. They snooped around and came back out. Once they came back out of the mounds Martins dog started barking madly at Keiron and Kevin for some reason. They all then proceeded to head back to the house. As they got a little bit away from the mounds the torch came back to life. They were all a little freaked out by this.

Anyway they were drinking and smoking later on that evening. All was apparently well until the dog started going completely insane. It started runing into walls and barking etc. Everyone recalls feeling very scared and uneasy all of a sudden excpet Keiron, who apparently sat very still, pale as a ghost staring into space. (My dad said he didnt know why but he just felt a great unease, and incredibly scared). Then apparently Keiron started rocking in his chair and chanting some undiscerneable words. he was in a complete trance and apprently the words sounded like Latin or celtish or something. He apprently started shouting louder and louder. My dad says two of them were slapping him and shaking him but he was completley out of it.Then apparently their was a loud sound from the other room an all of a sudden Keiron snapped out of his trance. The sound was apparently a low pitched groan.

Not one of them slept that night, but they stayed there the following night and nothing else happend. Since then their have been no similar occurences, it was acomplete one off.

To this day Keiron will not speak about going into his trance or the whole evening to anybody. Consider this was over 15 years ago.

My dad and martin talk about it when asked but they are pretty guarded and uneasy.

Kevin has told me he doesnt want to talk about it. He said it was a long time ago and it was strange, and left it at that

Collum who is the youngest, and a scientist is the most scpetical. he says he cant explain some of what happend but he recons that the events of that evening may have been influenced by the booze and dope they were smoking

Anyway thats it. When my dad told my the story i was shitscared, he probs told it a lot better than this. One of my Aunts refuses to sleep in the house as does her husband because of another story but i will save that for later

This one seems like a night terror. I had one before, I was still trying to fall asleep in my dorm room when suddenly I felt something really heavy on my chest, and an image of a face appeared in my vision, and it started screaming really loudly. I struggled to try and say something to my roomate a few feet away but I couldn't get a peep out for the life of me. After about half a minute it stopped and I asked my roomate and he didn't notice anything or any sounds.

Of course maybe that was a ghost too since I was boarding on campus in England, our school was on some really old grounds the chapel next to it was hundreds of years old and apparently some nun had committed suicide in our pond.

One girl I know who went to a christian college, her neighbor used one  Long story short, the girl I know started hearing loud whispering in her room at night, the clock floated off the wall and the table started moving across the room when she was lying in her bed at night.

regarding shadow people:

I think that they are just thoughtforms. And thoughtforms also need energy to survive. The energy that they feed on is negative emotional energy, of which fear is the most powerful one. And what easier way is there to get food (fear) than keeping people terrified of you??

I think if all people would stop being afraid and stop feeling the emotion of fear, these beings will just disolve into "nothing". But I think I'll see pigs fly before that...

First I'd like to say that I think your theory is very interesting. I would absolutely agree with every word you have said IF I hadn't had my own experience. Within that experience was the following phases:

Initial vision - butt-loads of fear.
Secondary vision (more than just the shadow creature) - apex of fear and instantaneous loss of fear
Continued vision of shadow creature - no fear which culminated in the shadow being NOT dissolving into nothing, but something much much more sinister occurring.

This experience is not something I feel comfortable talking about in detail in a public forum. Primarily due to the long-term effects.

I wish your theory was correct. We could then just eliminate our "fear of the shadows", if you will, and there would no longer be any of us who could discuss the possible existence of these beings - whatever they may be (I have my own opinions). But it just isn't that simple.

I know of two other members on this board that have had similar shadow sightings. I know of one other person in real life that not only had a shadow being sighting that was almost identical to mine, but also included the secondary vision that accompanied the shadow...the only thing different in their experience is that they were lucky enough to NOT stop fearing. In my experience, the ceasing of the fear was the pivotal moment when things turned real bad.

I've got a decent story even though we didn't see anything concrete and have no visual proof of what we saw.

I live in a small town in Arkansas and I'm sure some of you have heard of Tony Alamo. Well, he used to live in a "mansion" set up on some land in a tiny town right outside of where I live. Members of his "cult" and their kids lived there in small apartment complexes. A good friend of mine and her family lived on the land and actually ran their offices for their Masonry company out of Alamo's old mansion. She loved taking friends out there to walk through the mansion and experience its creepiness. It is pretty well knonw (in these parts anyway) that Alamo was/is a very strange man. A while back after his wife died he had his wife's body preserved, and instead of burying her, he had her put up in glass encasing on the wall, and her dead body was overlooking the main room when you walked in the front door. Obviously it isn't there anymore but there have been pleny of stories about some strange stuff that's gone down in the mansion. This isn't the creepiest part, but one night my friend, myself, and three of our friends went out to the mansion after a basketball game. It was about midnightish when we got there, and we decided to go on the ultimate walkabout throughout the house. After exploring the upstairs we ventured down to the creepiest part of the house, the basement. The basement is just a huge sprawling laid out series of rooms that is as big as the house above it. Again, we didn't see anything there, but given the house and its history, it was creepy to say the least since we had to go from room to room in the dark before turning the light on for whatever room we were in.

Now, for the creepiest part of the story. Apparently the kids who lived on his plantation with their parents went to school in a one story building on the plantation. Just picture your textbook old abandoned building from a movie. It was decaying on the inside due to the exterior windows being broken and never repaired over the years. We had to enter the building through one of the broken windows. Of course there was broken glass around the frame and it lead directly into one of the school rooms. So, we get into the building and immediately you can just feel something "different" and "off" about the place. We get in the room and look up at the old chalkboard with a flashlight. Still written on the board is what must have been the last date they had class in the room: May 12, 1998. This was November 2005, so it definitely put out a creepy vibe as soon as you got in the building. This first part was enough in itself to get the two girls of the group to go back outside thus ending their exploration through the rest of the building with the rest of the group. There was stuff all over the floor: old classroom supplies, old pictures from coloring books that the kids had colored, stuff falling from the ceiling, etc. There were three of us and we had one cheap Wal-Mart flashlight that only gave us visibility about 10 feet in front of us. We went into a couple more classrooms and saw the same stuff. Colored pictures hanging on the wall and on the ground, filing cabinets with the drawers open and their contents spilling out, some old deks, and just other stuff you would fin ind a normal clssroom. Inside the main part of the building was a long hallway (probably 150 feet) with about 7 or 8 classrooms on one side and two restrooms on the other. We went about halfway down the hallway and had gone in 4 of the rooms. Nothing unusual had happened, yet, other than hearing some groaning and creaking from nothing more than an old building settling. Ceiling tiles were decaying and falling, so we just assumed the random "crashes" we heard in the distance was just ceiling tiles or something else falling to the ground. Well, we get out of the fourth room, and were pretty close to the other end of the hallway, where an old light was still holding onto its final few hours of life. The light gave off a strange orange glow and gave us a semi-clear view of the wall and window at the other end of the hallway. So we get out into the hallway and decide to try and take some pictures. Me and one of the other guys had our back turned to the lighted end of the hallway to pose for couple of pictures. After a couple of pictures the guy taking the photos all of a sudden just froze and was pinting at something behind us. We spin around, and what could only be mistaken for a human outline, saw a shadowy figure coming out of the last room at the end of the hall, and walked across the hall. Even when he entered the small portion of the hallway that was lit up we still couldn't make out anything more than a shadowy figure. After a few sceonds the figure just sort of faded away. Being the "big brave men" we were we high tailed it ouf of the building. I was holding the flashlight and stayed behind a second in order to provide some sort of light for my friends. At this point I was shaking and scared sh!tless. After my friends had gotten about 15 feet ahead of me I decided it was time for me to follow them. Unfortunately what little hand-eye coordination I had went to pot and I dropped the flashlight as I was running. I was too big of a wuss to stop and go back and get it so we had to feel our way down the last 15 feet of the hallway into the classroom in which we had entered the building. We all three dove through the window, told the girls what we had saw, hopped in the car, and took off. The flashlight was (and as far as I know still is) laying in the hall of the building and still turned on.

Needless to say it was a very chilling experience. I wish we had thought to try and catch a picture of the "figure" but the guy with the camera (and rightfully so) froze up and taking a picture was the last thing on his mind. I don't know what we saw and haven't had the nerve to go back to the building in the last 5 years. We had all heard different "ghost" stories that occured on Alamo's mansion, but up until our first hand experience, we had just shrugged them off as nothing more than fabrications. It was my first and only supernatural experience.

Bump in case Marlo or someone has any idea...

In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution you can get yourself to. When you reach the front desk, ask to visit someone who calls himself "The Holder of the End". Should a look of child-like fear come over the workers face, you will then be taken to a cell in the building. It will be in a deep hidden section of the building. All you will hear is the sound of someone talking to themselves echo the halls. It is in a language that you will not understand, but your very soul will feel unspeakable fear.

Should the talking stop at any time, STOP and QUICKLY say aloud "I'm just passing through, I wish to talk." If you still hear silence, flee. Leave, do not stop for anything, do not go home, don't stay at an inn, just keep moving, and sleep where your body drops. You will know in the morning if you've escaped.

If the voice in the hall comes back after you utter those words continue on. Upon reaching the cell all you will see is a windowless room with a person in the corner, speaking an unknown language, and cradling something. The person will only respond to one question. "What happens when they all come together?"

The person will then stare into your eyes and answer your question in horrifying detail. Many go mad in that very cell, some disappear soon after the meeting, and a few end their lives. But most do the worst thing, and look upon the object in the person's hands. You will want to as well. Be warned that if you do, your death will be one of cruelty and unrelenting horror.

Your death will be in that room, by that person's hands.

That object is 1 of 538. They must never come together. Never.

Is it like a dork meme or what? Is there really 538 of those? I have an easy solution to avoid dying most foul though: Don't visit a mental institution :lol

I think It's something anyone can do. They give you a detailed guide on how to write one and then you can submit it. It's probably just been growing over a few years with 538 of them.

It says right on the back of the box that you subconsciously move it yourself. Ouija boards are not proof of their being spirits.
I think that is bullshit. Maybe it is true but I know when I did it the little moving thing was sitting right above the board a few milimeters at one point. Like hovering.

Maybe they need to put that on the box for it to be legal to be sold in some places. Just like how they put "For Tobacco Use Only" on bongs and shit.

I don't know, but that story wasn't that creepy to me. Your mind can play tricks on you at night and you can also misjudge things quite a bit when it's dark. Hell, people misjudge/misidentify things when there's plenty of light when something is off in the distance.

I wish I didn't read this thread last night before I went to bed. I had one of the worst dreams I've had in quite a long time last night and most of it was sh!t that I had read from in here or atleast contributed to the dream.

Anyway, I've also experience sleep paralysis. It's only happened once (early January, about a week after I got back to Uni) and I hope it never happens again.

It was a scary experience, I was sort of in and out of conciousness, but I couldn't distinguish between reality and dream (don't worry if that doesn't make sense, because it doesn't make sense to me). But I could see a shadowy figure standing over me, very human like, whilst I was both awake and asleep, which was just weird. I tried screaming for help, but I just couldn't move my mouth at all. I couldn't move my body at all, so I couldn't get up. I was trying so hard to move or just to do something, but I just couldn't.

It was definitly scary.

I've only had it once and it was pretty bad. You can hear what you're dreaming, though seeing reality. And I guess that drowsiness due to not being fully awake causes you to see things.

hahah, great thread. I laughed so hard at the two poltergeist pictures. chilly stories too, but you guys are f*cking bored if you really believe any of this sh*t. There's nothing else going on here. "More than meets the eye" don't apply in this life, friends. Although... I once saw through time. <Lamar turns to his female companion and locks eyes> And my dead uncle's spirit is all up in my lake house, but he respects a player's privacy. <clink>

I'll tell a little story that happened many years ago. I was downstairs on the computer. Now, a window is off to the side and I can see it in my peripheral vision. The window is almost at ground level and there's bushes all by it, so if someone is looking through it, then they're really creeping up on me. I'm getting the 'somebody is watching me' feeling for a while now. It's kind of spooky because I never have this feeling. I'm not really giving it much attention though since I never have that type of feeling so I think it's nothing. I can't really see anything suspicious in my peripheral, so I don't bother to look. But the feeling isn't going away. I think to myself, "Maybe I should look around and see what the **** is up since the feeling isn't going away." So, I turn towards the window and... I see a face. A ****ing face is looking at me. It was a cat.

Few years ago in the middle of the night I woke up to this sudden movement from my bed, as if someone was lifting the bed and just dropped it on the spot. I get up, still half asleep, trying to reach for my slider phone to see what time it is...I saw the phone was already slid up with the screen light turned on. I didn't think much of it then but now that I think about it it's pretty scary because I still can't come up with an explanation as to what happened. It wasn't a type of phone that just slides up with minimal force. You really have to push it up with your thumb.

A few years ago, me and my wife went to Mexico to visit her family for vacation. At that time, her sister in law lived in an apartment complex and we later found out that her next door neighbor, who called himself el doctor (the doctor), was practising a religion called Santa Muerte, which I consider as some crazy religion that worships death, and had people coming in on all hours of the day. I consider myself a skeptic, not a religious person at all but something strange happened, I didn't see a ghost or anything like that but it just weirded the hell out of me. Supossedly, my sister in law and her son, at the time was about 5 years old are extra sensitive to shit we can't see, like the Sixth Sense movie, just not as pronounced as the little kid in that movie. They say they can sense and sometimes see apparitions, though it scares the hell out of them and don't like dealing with them.

Anyways, long story short, me and my wife are sleeping in the guest bedroom and I'm just having like the worst nightmare of my life. I never have these kinds of nightmares, usually a bad dream would consist of the normal kind, like being chased by a dude with a knife or some orther kind of normal crap. In this particular dream, I just have the saddest, most depressing feeling as I'm staring into a black pit, it was the most horrible feeling I ever had, just pure and utter helplessness and despair and I can hear whimperings and crying, like from a scene from hell, I guess. Then from the black pit, I can see what I can best describe as some sort of demon laughing at me, he was truly hideous, he had a grotesque face and it was painted in red and black, I could still see today and it creeps the fvck outta
me. I woke up in the middle of my nightmare only because my nephew was crying, I
mean he was balling his eyes out and I'm laying in bed in the dark just freaking out. I could hear his mom comforting him from our room.

Here's the weird part, the next morning, my sister in law mentioned to us that her son saw a demon in his room and she described it exactly like the thing I saw in my dream, I hadn't mentioned it to her at all and as you can imagine, we stayed at a hotel room later that night:oldlol: Fortunatly for them, they don't live there and the lady they know who cleanses their house told them the next door neighbor was bringing in evil shit from other dimensions, at least that's what I've been told.

this is a pic of the alter these weirdos worship:facepalm Even though I'm no believer, I'll stay away from that shit:lol

If you're half asleep, then you're probably going to misconstrue anything you perceive as odd. Also, sometimes you quickly forget things you've just done.

I used to believe in all kinds of things when I was younger, but I've grown to look towards the rational side. In the dark, your mind can play tricks on you. Your brain tries to make sense out of images in the dark, but it has trouble doing so, so you may think you saw something spooky, but it's just muddled imagery. There's plenty of other things, but basically, your brain can be easily tricked. I've had some things happen to me that I can't explain, but I don't jump to the conclusion of 'ghost'.

I wonder if I've already posted in this thread.

On June 8, 2009, a contest was launched on Something Awful forums to doctor actual photographs so that they contained "supernatural" entities and then pass them off as legitimate on paranormal forums. User Victor Surge doctored a series of photographs of children to show a tall, pale, faceless being with "tentacles" standing in the background. Annotations described how the children had later vanished, supposed victims of "the Slender Man". Two weeks later, Youtube user "MarbleHornets" created a series of videos comprising a "found footage" film about the Slender Man.[14][unreliable source?] The "legend" of the Slender Man has subsequently inspired a wide range of amateur art, including the video game Slender.
