I read somewhere that 60% of all NBA players file for bankruptcy within 4 years of retirement. Talk about rough times.

At least Todd M. has an excuse for being fat, he has an irreversible nervous system condition that basically means he can never run again.

middle age+no motivation or reason to train and stay in NBA shape=this
Once they retire, guys are around their friends and family more. More social outings, which usually involves food or drinks of some sort.

Mike Sweetney is huuuuuuuuge.
And I think that's just a bad shot of Shaq. I don't remember him being anywhere near that big in Miami. Might just be air going through the shirt.

Damn those guys have it rough. They got so much money they can stuff their faces every evening in the finest restaurants. Maybe I should call Magic and ask him if I can take some of his burden... I hate to see him like this :( :( :(

Have you guys seen men who are in rich neighborhoods / suburbs in there late 40's? The knocks on how much Johnson, Bird, and Jordan have changed is laughable. When your that rich and can eat / do anything you want once you retire, still being in the shape some of those players are in is impressive.

getting fat happens to nearly all Americans for the sole reason that they eat as if they were still young.
your bodies Basal Metabolic Rate begins to decline at age 30. Unless you work out and keep up the muscle mass to keep your metabolism high, you don't need as many calories.
HOwever, people tend to be their richest around middle age, and they begin to eat more and more that they could not when they were young....
the solution to be fit in middle age onward is be a bodybuilder of some capacity and go ketogenic for life.
and McDonald's isnt' so bad for you if you don't ask for mayo or dressing. Although a whole wheat bun would be nice... meat bacon and cheese, with some veggies... perfect for a ketogenic diet.
