Does anyone have proof that another player has had more late game heroics in 1 season than mamba?

There's still a month of games to go :lol

I'm pretty sure that's true actually.. I saw something about that on ESPN(yea i know) when he hit the game-winner against Miami.

Crazy thing is he could be at 8 or 9 with the near miss at Orlando and the way things are going with all the close games.

You just mad and jealous.

Im sure if some player of your crap team (whatever it is) made 7 game-winners in one season you would be fapping all over the place 24/7.

Anything over 30 seconds don't count.. If it does I can come up with at least 10 more game winners for Mj in his career.. Probably double that amount.. But six within 30 seconds has to be a record.. I don't even remember Mj getting 6 chances for a game winners in a season.. Kobe has gotten 10 oppurtunities and has shot great... Whether you like the Lakers or not gotta give him credit for shot making abilities...

No, those aren't game winners considering the shot you make may not even lead to the game being won for your team.

Definition: 24 seconds or less left in the game, team with the ball is either tied or down by 1 to 2 points.

1. With 24 seconds or less, then it truly is a "last possession" situation potentially
2. With a margin from tied to down 2, the team can take the lead with a made basket (including 3's)
3. By excluding a down 3 situation, we don't have the "gimme two point buckets" that defenses will sometimes yield to the quick bucket/intentional foul strategy option you often see exercised.

Obviously though this definition means a shot may not actually be a game winner -- it may only tie a game (if down two points) or it may allow enough time for the opponents to get a game winning shot of their own. Still it seems a reasonable compromise.

As long as it is the final shot taken and made that leads to your team winning, it counts be it FTs, technical foul shots, whatever. If you really are confident about those Jordan winners, feel free to enlighten us by posting them in the game winners thread created a few weeks ago, but as it stands, Kobe has 7 on the season.

Melo's has to be the best so far... Read this ...

For the 2005-2006 season, he made five game-winning shots in the last five seconds: at Houston on January 8, 2006; at home versus the Phoenix Suns on January 10, 2006; at Minnesota on February 24, 2006; at Indiana on March 15, 2006; at home versus the Los Angeles Lakers on April 6, 2006 - all were jumpers while shot against Minnesota was a three point field goal - also made a shot in the final seconds to force overtime vs. the Dallas Mavericks on January 6, 2006 and made shots in the final 22 seconds against the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 18, 2006 and the Philadelphia 76ers on March 9, 2006 which gave the Nuggets leads they would never lose.

That is 7 game winners.... Within 22 seconds .. And most within 5 seconds...

The one against Cleveland, Eduardo Najera made a ft after Melo nailed that shot, and then Lebron hit a couple more fts, so technically Najera had the game winner, since it was the last shot.

So, being a little technical, Melo had a total of 6 that season.

They lose 3 straight and won an extremely close one at home to the Raptors. That's the kind of winning you are used to?

Kobe said it best after the game..."you don't win championships playing like this".

Great shot but that's what happens when you don't double Kobe as soon as he touches the ball.....not as soon as he takes 2 dribbles to his favorite spot.

I know. I was definitely disappointed that they almost lost to the Raptors, especially at home lol. It's just after that disappointing stretch of games it was nice to see Kobe start getting his game back and I love a game-winner even if it shouldn't have been needed in the first place. I definitely get your point and agree though, but have to look on the bright side of things.

These are the things that make Kobe the best player in the league. You know it's crazy when you start expecting him to make every clutch shot.

Kobe hit that shot and walked away like it was no big deal. He is making sure he gets the message through to his teammates. They'll respond for sure. The Lakers have no reason to be concerned. Bynum showed great signs today, Vujacic is back, Kobe is Kobe. Gasoft and Artest just need to get their sh!t together and the Lakers will be ready to roll come playoff time. No one is beating this team 4 times in a 7 game series.

I may have saw the ESPN graphic wrong, because I only caught a glimpse of it, but I could have sworn Kobe had the most game winners in the last 10 seasons. Or was it with 10 seconds or less remaining on the clock? Either way, I'm pretty sure it wasn't "Kobe has the record for most game winners in a single season, ever."

amazing

from that same link:

...and then we get to Kobe Bryant. Kobe fans don't like to hear it, but while their man is #4 in the league in total game winners hit, he holds the top spot in a less glamorous category: most game winning opportunity missed shots!

42 - Kobe
35 - Vince Carter
33 - Joe Johnson, LeBron
32 - Crawford
31 - Billups

Now we're not Kobe haters by any means and I will readily give him his due as one of the best NBA players (note however, I didn't say the best) but he certainly has an overblown reputation when it comes to the clutch shot: people remember the ones he hits, but not the ones he misses, and heck you think a 56 FGA to 1 assist ratio might be part of the problem? He does have a better record in the playoffs though, which we'll get to down below.

Kobe easily has the most game winners in NBA history, more than Jordan, but at the same time he has the most game winning oppurtunities missed. It is kinda like Brett Farve's NFL record, most touchdwons thrown, but at the same time most interceptions thrown.

How many times has the team he is playing against missed free throws to give him a chance to win a game? I would love to know that stat... Kobe has been taking game winning shots since his rookie season.. He kept missing early on but now he looks comfortable taking them..

Not being comfortable. It's a combination of better run plays and him actually getting open looks for the first time in his career.

Kobe is uberclutch, but:

Since 2005-06, Dirk Nowitzki owns the most game-winners (put team ahead for good in final 2 seconds) of any player in the NBA.

LOL, anybody who is allowed to chuck that many shots will make that many game winners, even more.

Look, if Kobe is so great then why do the Fakers get involved in so many close games? That means he's not that great.

Come crunch time, Kobe is the GOAT

I called it the other day, he's as good as anyone in crunch time in NBA history. And it now includes last shots too, which he was kind of spotty at prior to this season. But now he's completely gone to the other extreme. If the game's on the line, your team's ****ed.

yes espn showed his last game winner that tied him with melo for 5.
So he has the record now

Melo had 7 in 05-06

Kobe is tied with Melo now if you count the one in Dallas..

This is only in recent years. Since 03.

Actually come crunch time he shoots absolutely horrid percentages. For some reason though his teams are always in these positions, even when they are favored title contenders. Is Bryant a clutch player? Absolutely. But his reputation is amazingly overblown.

Personally Ill take a player like Magic, Bird, Jordan who would consistently put the game in the bag with 4 minutes still left in the 4th. That IMO is just as clutch.

I dont think its a good thing Kobe needs to drop 6/7 game winners when he apparently has the "best team in the league"

They should be blowing ******* out, not struggling and lacking chemistry like this.

Yeah he can perform in the clutch, but he shouldnt have to. You're playing against the Raptors. This should have been a blowout, and this is coming from a Raptors fan

The only reason the Lakers play so many close games is because most of the players coast throughout the game. Shannon was 2-9, Farmar was 2-7 and Artest was 1-5. If these guys could make an open jumper once in a while, they wouldn't have to rely on Kobe to bail them out every time.

I understand that this is very impressive. 6 game winners, that is crazy, but, is anyone but me worried that Lakers games have been so close this year? Honestly WTF is this shit. The Raptors? Come on. We're supposed to ****ing destroy them. It was supposed to be a "wake-up" game for us, a "statement" game for us, but it wasn't, it was a horrible game, and Kobe had to bail us out. I'm tired of this shit. It just seems like right now, we're either just hanging in there, or we're not. So when it comes down to playoff time, I personally don't want to rely on a game-winner, I want the game to already be won. Sure Kobe's made them so far, but you never know what's gonna happen next time. I guess the one positive we can take out of last night's game is that Andrew Bynum had a great game.

It's ****ing disgraceful. I'll be surprised if we make it to the finals the way we're playing. We've got some legit competition this year in Dallas and Denver. And now K-Mart is coming back too. The Nuggets need him to get places. And now they will have him, which just means the Lakers are even more screwed. Our only hope is HCA. If we can hold on to that, we have a chance.

Well, the Raptors have an unorthodox lineup and an explosive offense. We've beaten Cleveland and Orlando as well. We're a good team, just inconsistent b/c of our horrid defense.

Dallas is rolling dude. 12 game winning steak with Dirk and Caron murking their opposition. For the Lakers sake, I hope these two beat each other up before facing us (that is if we make it that deep).

lol it's not like anyone will take a boston fan seriously about something that has to do with kobe

I have no real proof that he isn't the official record holder, just the same as you don't have proof that he is the official record holder. This has nothing to do with me being a Boston fan. I just figured all the Laker and Kobe fans would get on here and start claiming he is now the record holder, has the most game winners ever, etc. when the truth is we don't really know who it is. It's hard to judge this category pre-shot clock, but ESPN said on their graphic last night that Kobe has the most game winners in a season in the last 10 years. Not all-time.

I actually don't mind the Lakers playing close games during the regular season instead of rolling most teams by 10/15/20.

Why is this Fubu loser pretending to be a Lakers fan?

Just a day ago he was talking bout Kobe being a b!tch and etc..

I personally don't like the way Kobe has been playing this year. That game against Orlando how he was throwing elbows at Barnes. I'm tired this year of how he is coming down the floor almost every possession begging for a foul. That makes me pissed. L.A. is still my favourite team you dumba$$. Am I not allowed to criticize? I still cheer for them, I love Artest on the team. I hate Gasol and how soft he is playing this regular season. I really like the play of Denver this year, because I envy how they have a 33 year old point guard that is putting up career numbers and I also like how physical K-Mart is. Just like how I love how physical Artest is on D. I am happy that Bynum had a big game yesterday. Desperately needed that. Kobe is still the best player in the NBA with a minute left in the game, I'm just worried if we're going to be able to be in the game with a minute left. However, I am still more of a Lakers fan than any other team in the west. And a Bobcats fan more than any other team in the East. Anyways, enough with this loser.

Big news, LUKE WALTON!!! He's started running again, and hoping to get with the team before Playoffs. YEAAAHHH!!!!

The pain in Luke Walton's back is easing up, he said, and for the first time he's set an ETA for his return.

"Maybe by the beginning of April," he said, noting his back pains are lessening as he increases his work.

Here's the link guys.
