i'd say Maine

went up there this summer with two black friends and three white friends. while driving, we stopped at a Burger King to grab something to eat. in line, there were these two fat bastards behind us. one of them said "looks like someone's finally getting the chicken sandwich" and the other fat bastard laughed. I turned around and they were staring and my black friends. we grabbed our food and left, things were getting pretty tense, almost everyone in the BK was taking long looks at my black friends, almost as if they never seen a black person before? :confusedshrug:

what's the most racist state in all of your opinions?

One experience does not make a state the most racist. One of my friends works for a youth authority program and he was dropping off a kid in Inglewood in an unmarked white van. When they pulled up in front of the kid's house and the kid was opening the door to leave, people just started coming out of the woodwork everywhere with hostile intentions. There was no subtle racism or innuendo in what these people were saying to him. They started calling him cracker, whitey and narc. He got the hell out of there. He says they now send the "black guy" to drop off the kids in that area. :lol

I live in Maine and he's definitely right, Maine is the whitest state in the Union and probably top 5 most filled with rednecks/hicks. I mean I live in Bangor which is like the a huge city by Maine standards, and even here everyone says ****** or whatever without fear because theres like 3 black people in the city.

California is for from the most racist... probably the most tolerant state in the US. Are there racial issues? Of course, because we are an incredibly diverse state. However, most people are raised around other races in Cali, which in my opinion, makes the citizen more educated and tolerant of different cultures and races.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area... and raised around EVERY race and culture imaginable. Blacks, whites, latinos, asians, middle-easterners, etc.

So you're saying you have no race-based decisions/assumptions? Stop lying. The fact that anybody ever brings up race, goes to show that "racism" is alive and always will be alive. It's just natural human thinking.

When outsiders come to a relatively low-pop area, the natives always act extra careful and some have the same "racist" views except they're not based on race, just status.

When one makes bad decisions/assumptions based on race, that's when it's not tolerable.

Dasher is spot on with this. There are lots of latino pride gangs and white supremacists here in Cali. People think that the KKK have committed the most racially motivated murders in the last 30 years but that is false. The latino gangs have committed the most racially motivated murders of any group in our lifetime, and most of them have been committed here in Cali.

I think the prevalent gang activity and generally huge population skew the perception of California. Outside of gang-related racial violence and isolation, your average Californian Joe is pretty tolerant. I grew up in SoCal, and never really had any problems.

That would be a recipe where you would see the most racism. American born asians aren't racist at all but Mexicans and Blacks will fight with each other faster and more fiercely than any two ethnic groups. At least that has been my experience. That's also why they have to separate them in prison.

my experience goes a lot with what the article mentions - distrust between minority groups, but also distrusting white people.

a lot of the times what i notice is that when it's one person, say a coworker or classmate, the prejudice isn't exposed, but when it's towards a group -say you see a group of blacks, or vietnamese people, or mexicans,or pakistanis, or whatever, at a restaurant, mall, park, club or wherever, it's on full blast, especially when in the company of people with a similar prejudice.

California also has, by far, the largest population of all 50 states, so there is bound to be more hate groups and incidents just based on the sheer number of people living there.

A sleeper state that of racists: Michigan. It is mostly older generations that are keeping the racism alive, but there is plenty of racial discrimination up there.

US minorities don't trust each other

(AFP) – Dec 12, 2007

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The three main minorities in the United States -- blacks, Hispanics and Asians -- have little trust for each other and hold prejudiced views about Americans of different ethnic origins to their own, a poll showed Wednesday.

"This extraordinary poll reveals some unflattering realities that exist in America today," said Sandy Close, head of new America Media (NAM) which sponsored the poll together with ethnic media groups.

Forty-four percent of Hispanics and 47 percent of Asians are "afraid of African-Americans because they are responsible for most of the crime," the survey of 1,105 adults drawn from the three ethnic groups showed.

More than half of black Americans polled and 46 percent of Hispanics said Asian business owners do not treat them with respect.

And half of African-Americans said Latin American immigrants "are taking jobs, housing and political power away from the black community."

Hispanics and Asians, whose populations are made up mainly of immigrants, were positive about the American dream, saying that those who work hard in the United States reap the rewards of their toil.

In contrast, more than 60 percent of African-Americans dismissed the American dream as not working for them.

All three ethnic groups viewed white Americans in a more favorable light than they did members of another minority.

Sixty-one percent of Hispanics, 54 percent of Asians and 47 percent of African-Americans said they would rather do business with whites than members of the other two groups.

"The poll reaffirms that while race relations between ethnic groups and whites grab the headlines, there are also serious racial problems between minority groups in America," said Sergio Bendixen, an expert on Hispanic and multilingual polling.

"Blacks feel they are left out of the American Dream and are being displaced by newcomers, and each group buys into the negative stereotypes about the other two," he said.

The three minority groups did agree that the United States would be a better place if blacks, Asians and Hispanics held more authoritative positions at universities, in business, media and government.

They also said they believe racial tensions in the United States will ease over the next 10 years.

everyone is naturally biased in some way against people who dont look or act like them.

whites, blacks, browns, yellows, reds, goths, jocks, preps, nerds, bikers, cops....

it doesnt matter who

people naturally gravitate towards people who look like them and naturally are uneasy around those that are different.

a great example of this is from when they were making the film Planet of the Apes.

They had tons of people dressed as gorillas, orangutans and chimps as extras. When they went on smoke breaks or went to eat, they ended up grouping themselves by species. It wasn't done on purpose. It just happened naturally.

From my experience I'd say Indiana.

I went to boarding school there.

The next town over was home to the Grand Wizard of the KKK.

His kid wore a KKK hood to school for hat day.

When we would travel to wonderful towns such as Knox, IN for basketball games the town's people would treat me like it was 1940.

I was captain of the team and it was custom for the teams captains and refs to meet at center court and shake hands. On several occasions I was left hanging.

Well it seems my 'third world ghetto' has taught me more tact and common sense than your foreign utopia.

No matter if it is attention whoring for cheap laughs or stark racism I couldn't tell because I do not have a history posting with whoever typed that slur.

Either way I personally find it offensive to call people racial slurs for any reason especially behind your keyboard like a coward.

Nobody was trying to be hard. I am the farthest thing to it. Matter of fact I teach/mentor/coach kids and they always want a gang or war story and I don't entertain that mess.

I come from a gang riddled neighborhood and I'm the only male in my family that never joined one. So miss me with the hard stuff man.

I said those things because that's how I feel not to impress any of you.

To me it's the mark of a punk to call a man out by his race and not by his character. I look at each and every one of you as my equals as men regardless of your race or upbringing until you say some weak cowardly stuff like making jokes that deal with racial slurs.

As I stated in my post on the OP I was called ****** [at 15-16] by grown people in a supposedly civilized middle class neighborhood when I was just trying to have fun playing basketball for my school.

So you can understand how I don't 'feel' jokes that include racial slurs.

Anyway, all I did was ask if he was serious or joking and you chose to butt in and play hero....your bad.

So you can understand how I don't 'feel' jokes that include racial slurs.

if you knew the poster who wrote the post we were discussing you wouldn't have wasted your time, he is an upper-middle class, spoon fed righty living off Daddy's dime trying to make it in Hollywood. he spends his days eschewing work while trumpeting the virtues of the hardworking right wing ethic. He is in every sense a direct contradiction to the lifestyle he claims to adhere to. In other words a complete clown. Look for him to storm in here and call everyone a liberal, commie, or pinko. Funny thing is he is living off more handouts than anyone. Racism is something he just throws out there casually because he thinks the world is too PC. A former little w*gga boy still butt hurt he can't drop N-bombs with the boyz in the hood. That is why he drops epithets.

And I couldn't care less. I appreciate the background though.

I've heard that Arizona is pretty bad for asians for some reason. From several different unconnected people the grew up there.

California probably has lots of racists in number, but by % I don't think it's that bad. We do have the brown pride, white pride people all over the place (huntington beach bike gangs). In fact I hear the inland empire was actually a reference to all the Klan people that moved inland when the minorities started filling up the once all white neighborhoods. Also outside of the big cities, some of the smaller ones might as well be the deep south. (Some even have accents!) But the city is so diverse I think the percentage isn't so bad considering most of the population is there.

i've been to Alabama 2 different times and both times i heard some pretty crazy shit.

Californian's are subjected to and experience different races and cultures at a much younger age than people in most other states.

i was called a cracker in the "concrete jungle" Marin City at a walgreens.

in marin city??hahaha...i would have expected maybe Hunters point..or Oakland or Richmond but marin city>>hahahaha..woooow

I was captain of the team and it was custom for the teams captains and refs to meet at center court and shake hands. On several occasions I was left hanging.

Smh.

Shaking your head since they didn't want to shake your hand...

i'd say Maine

went up there this summer with two black friends and three white friends. while driving, we stopped at a Burger King to grab something to eat. in line, there were these two fat bastards behind us. one of them said "looks like someone's finally getting the chicken sandwich" and the other fat bastard laughed. I turned around and they were staring and my black friends. we grabbed our food and left, things were getting pretty tense, almost everyone in the BK was taking long looks at my black friends, almost as if they never seen a black person before? :confusedshrug:

what's the most racist state in all of your opinions?

I could swear i've seen this exact post on here before, maybe 2 years ago.

Am almost positive.

Anyone looked up the stats on hate crimes per capita? At least it'd be something actually tangible instead of conjecture and predjudice.

They are rarely reported and not trusted. Worth about the same as conjecture. Furthermore, only ~55% of hate crimes are race-related.

I feel kinda slighted that NC hasn't been mentioned yet. We work hard on our racism down here.

I know they wouldn't prove anything, but at least they'd actually have some basis.

From what my mom tells me, Indiana was pretty bad ... not sure how it is now.
The southern portions of the state can be fairly bad in the more rural areas. Just like anywhere else though it's becoming less of an occurence with the "shrinking world."

And they didn't want Alford over Reggie because he was white, at least not completely. They wanted him because he's a HS and IU legend, dude was IU's all time leading scorer at the time.

There are no per capita rates. Only total incidents, they're entirely a function of agencies that report those numbers to the feds, how many people the agencies districts cover, and they don't discern between religion, race, disabilities, ethnicity, etc.. Some states only have one that report while others have tens of thousands.
