Syracuse beatdown
Kansas State beatdown
Washington pulls out a close one
Cornell blowout upset. Cal's cannot play a disciplined game against a crisp shooting, highly experienced Cornell with great chemistry.

Syracuse
Kansas State
West Virginia
Kentucky

Syracuse is just better. Far too much size, strength and speed for Butler to deal with. It's just a bad matchup, as Syracuse shoots the highest FG% in college hoops and will kill Butler on the glass. Syracuse is even their match in 3 pt shooting, the one area most would think Butler has an edge.

Kansas State, in a weird year, has the look of a party crasher to me. Playing very confident, and the one team they couldn't seem to figure out is gone. Have played an awful lot of tough games, and look like a team that can match Xavier's intensity.

Bryant's poor shooting won't be missed, but he's a big part of that WV team. I still think they've got enough quality depth to overcome Thomas & Pondexter, who have been the show for Washington. Probably the best upset shot of the four imo, but I don't see it happening.

Cornell has been a great story, and they're an excellent offensive team. They've had a great draw too, getting two poor offenses (Temple & Wisconsin). But they don't play good defense, and I don't see them being able to straight up outscore Kentucky. UK has active, offensive minded bigs, of the quality Cornell hasn't seen all year. Watch Cornell's big guy get in foul trouble in a hurry. When he's not on the floor, they're like every other good Ivy league team in the past: way over their heads against an elite team.

Enjoy! Good luck to all.

Arguably the 4 of the 5 (including Ohio State) best teams left in the tournament. Those are my picks.

Cornell will give Kentucky a good game though.

Butler's offensive execution has been crisp, and Mack is killing Syracuse with his methodical, easy-going, mid-range game. I'm lovin' it!

I also love the fact that Butler's coach looks no older than 18-22.

Posterize246
03-25-2010, 07:41 PM
Seems like whoever brings the ball up for Cuse is taking the shot as soon as he gets to the 3 point line. They're also fouling jump shooters like crazy. How old is the Butler coach? 20?

KG215
03-25-2010, 07:43 PM
He can't pass for older than 25-28 on a good day. I don't know his real age, but I know he's one of the youngest - probably the youngest - head coach in the nation. I'd guess early 30's.

I'm torn. As a UNC fan, I'd hate for Syracuse to lose, because that eliminates both 1 seeds from the opposite side of the bracket, and would be infuriating that everything seems to be falling in place for them to win it all. However, how can you not love Butler and want them to win? They are still a few years from being the next Gonzaga, where everyone goes from loving them because theya re the little guy, to where we get them forced down our throats a little too much, and we all start to get annoyed by them.

GP_20, I would love to hear a BREAKDOWN of why you have Butler going to the Final Four. What on-court advantages did you think Butler had over the other 15 teams in their region? Did you think their execution and discipline was so great that they could win 4 straight games (2 or 3 possibly over better teams) and get to the Final Four?

Or was it just a "gut" feeling?

They'll be good for one more win. That's it.

Still intact.

Once again, when GP_20 makes a Final 4 pick, I don't care who that team is, Butler or Duke, they will do very well.

I've seen Duke enough to know they're not a championship team. That's not to say that can't possibly win, but they need help to get there. They need:

a) a lot of luck (remains to be seen)
b) a number of upsets (that's been happening)
c) help from the refs (quite possible since it's Duke)
d) easy bracket (well, they certainly got that)

It doesn't really bother me. I wasn't that confident in my picks this year.

Glove_20 you dont watch college basketball. You're not a fan. Heck you hardly watch the NBA today. And when asked repeatedly by another poster in here KG215 to break down why you have certain teams picked? You avoid it. Props to picking the winners or whatever and how it affects you. But you arent picking these teams because you have a good sense of the teams or basketball in general. Its luck.

I picked Cornell over Temple. Why? Because it was a 12 seed 5 seed matchup and over the years the 12 seed has a history of upsetting the 5 seed. So I went with Cornell. And what do you know? Cornell is there. I couldnt break down why Cornell would/could win. But I went with my feeling and a little bit of tournament history to make the call. Looked at the 12-5 matchups and that felt like the best setup for it to happen.

How can someone be an expert of something they have no clue on? :confusedshrug:

I could break it down easily. I'm a big NCAA fan. And even a bigger NBA fan and watch it a lot. I watch like every game in the NBA. And NCAA too a lot. You don't know what you're talking about.

I don't pick 12 seeds over 5 seeds because of whatever history. I didn't know there was a history of upsets there. I pick teams because I think they can be beat. I pick teams to lose that are overrated. I pick teams to win because I think they are underratd.

Everybody now is talking about how the Big East was overrated and all of that. I already knew that. Syracuse I had losing to Butler in Sweet 16. Did I have Pittsburgh, Villanova, or Georgetown going to the Sweet 16? No. That's why I'm 99%. You calling luck on me having all of them lose before the Sweet 16? :oldlol:

I could break it down easily. I'm a big NCAA fan. And even a bigger NBA fan and watch it a lot. I watch like every game in the NBA. And NCAA too a lot. You don't know what you're talking about.

You've stated otherwise on here yo. I dont make up things. I wouldnt associated you not watching college bball nor watching the NBA much out of my ass. You've said it plenty of times when we'd have our lil back and forths. How you were more of a watcher back in the day which is why you are more in depth with players of yesterday than today. Maybe you started getting back into it this seasons (nba/ncaa). :confusedshrug:

But I'd like to see you once break down a matchup.

I'm not going to get into a back and forth tho about your picks. Dont feel like it nor care. lol Good luck on your picks. You just crack me up calling yourself an expert on stuff like nba, ncaab, ncaafb, nfl.

As an expert, I usually don't waste my time giving analysis. It's a waste of time imo to explain to others why this and that. That's why you don't see my doing much analysis. However, I use my expert abilities to predict games. That's why I usually do well in NCAA tournaments, NFL & NBA predictions/betting. I could make a living out of betting on NFL/NBA games if I wanted to using my expert abilities.

I'm a NFL, NBA, NCAA Basketball (Not Football), expert. But I use my expert abilities on the prediction of the actual play of the games instead of analyzing it. And needless to say, I never disappoint.

You just explained someone who is the exact opposite of an "expert". You're just another guy going on instict and picking winners based off of what appears to be nothing more than a gut feeling. I've already said I don't see the point of explaining my analysis. I'd rather just cut the crap and go straight to the verdict which I feel confident on based on my analysis. It also is a way of checking how good my analysis is, and I have to say, it's pretty damn good.

Refs miss calls. Aside from the fact that that was a weak "intentional" foul on K-State's part.

I've ALWAYS hated that strategy. Foul if you're up by 3 late in the game. B/c that can happen, or the player can make the first FT, then offensive rebound. Just play solid defense. the BEST 3 point shooters shoot 40% from 3, so the percentages go in your favor if you just play it out and play solid D.

Jackass18
03-26-2010, 04:07 AM
I don't pick 12 seeds over 5 seeds because of whatever history. I didn't know there was a history of upsets there. I pick teams because I think they can be beat. I pick teams to lose that are overrated. I pick teams to win because I think they are underratd.

Yeah, is that why you picked Duke to win it all? You want to explain that one? You're an expert and yet you don't even know any tourney history?

What I'm saying is that if Butler didn't hit a couple lucky 3s that bounced around and then somehow went in after they were down 54-50, then they probably lose that game. Oh and how about the game they played before that? Damn near lost to Murray State. They could have just as easily lost that game. Butler barely, just barely ekes out 2 straight games, but you want to act all confident even though they could have just as easily lost those games?

When there's close games that are decided by a handful of plays, then there's luck involved. There's been a bunch of games that could have went the other way that could have dramatically changed the whole tourney. The tourney is one-and-done, where luck plays more of a role than postseasons that are decided by series. Yeah, there's plenty of skilled involved in making picks, but there's also plenty of luck involved, too. I guess you're either too egotistical and/or ignorant to admit it. Haven't you heard countless stories of people who didn't watch a second of or very little basketball winning office pools?

Jailblazers7

Kentucky is looking really strong right now. They have the skill on the perimeter and power inside to score on anyone. They rebound really well with Cousins Patterson and Orton. The thing setting them apart right now is the way Callipari has gotten them to buy into busting their ass on defense. With their athlete and offense they have a great chance of winning it all if they continuee to give this kind of effort on d.

1. What's your name on ISH Pick'Em?

2. I don't need to know Tourney history to decide my picks. I rely on my expert analysis of each team to decide.

3. Stop kidding yourself. Butler was in control of the game throughout. They played strong in the 1st half and had a good lead at half time. They were winning most of the game. They didn't need luck. I knew they would be in control of most of the game, and they just needed to pull through, which is exactly how it went. They were the BETTER team.

Hey and are those office pool stories repeated every year? Because I'm in the top ever year. Yeah, that's not luck. And those office pool winners aren't saying sh*t like they are going to finish #1 blah blah blah. They just get lucky and surprised. I'm not surprised at all. I expected myself to be #1 and 99th %.
