Andrew Bogut just had a VERY bad-looking right arm injury.

He was dunking, fell, and landed on it. Things don't look good.

Official info about the injury will be here: http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=5668

Could be a dislocated elbow, for sure.

Def looks like some ulnar-humerous separation.

http://www.injuryupdate.com.au/images/scans/dislocatedelbow.JPG

Many times, you'll get a break in the bottom half of the "claw" part of the ulna which can require surgery... if not, it can be "popped" back in, like a shoulder... recovery is typically 4-6 weeks.

Here's to hoping, for Bogut's sake.

holy crap, this reminds me of what barkley said, don't try to break your fall with your hands / arms.

I always tell people this, but it's unrelated to Bogut's fall. Bogut's fall was catastrophic. The reason you shouldn't break your fall with your hands/arms is because even really, really simple falls can break your arm near the wrist very easily. There are a number of injuries caused by what is called FOOSH -- fall onto outstretch hand -- ranging from broken bones to dislocated fingers and damage to thumb ligaments.

I broke my arm playing baseball. I was trying to do a kind of spin move around the 3rd baseman, just as sort of a joke since I was totally out, but lost balance when he tagged me. I went down real slow, controlled, and casual, almost like nothing happened, but put my arm down first and it broke. Falling onto your hands causes random freak accidents sometimes.

That's why last year when Delonte West broke his wrist, I knew immediately, because I saw him try to catch himself with it. If a simple slow fall can break it, a huge fall with all your weight will almost always break it or cause some other injury.

Yeah, he definitely didn't get pushed. You can see his hands just slipped from the rim and his momentum carried his legs forward.

Such a sad thing to see, the Bucks have been outstanding since the ASB and now their season is virtually over before they even got a crack at seeing the Playoffs.

He pushed him. But it's not like it was dirty. He just pushed him in the back at the wrong moment.

But still, that's why you should never push people in the back on breaks. If someone is running full speed a small push can really floor them. I learned this as a child playing tag... mahaha.

Looked at it a few times , besides the news coverage.

I think it was a dislocation , and not a break.

But the concern would be ligaments etc ...

And even if it was not a break , he is out for the season.

-------------
This was his right arm , and it's his shooting hand ..
This could be issues next year.
Ligaments once injuried , strain on muscles and function change.
His rehab will require weight training to strengthen muscle to allow the ligamnets and flexibility to be normal.
** He might of been better off breaking a wrist then this injury.

I hope for the best , because he was the leader of our team , and he was having his best season of his career.

------------Amare's push was not an impact to this , but I played some football and jumped in the air one time , catching a pass ,guy came from behind and it was a light touch , next thing I knew I flipped in mid-air.
Sometimes it doesn't take much , and I am sure Amare in no way was trying to do something dirty.

Maybe Amare will feel so bad , he'll drop his contract , and this summer join the Bucks :D

The flagrant they gave Amare was very much deserved. You do NOT push a player from the back even a little bit in a situation like that. It doesn't take much to increase their momentum to dangerous levels.

Anyone who's ever played basketball knows how a small bump from the back can send you flying out of bounds when you're airborne, going for a rebound. This was very similar.

Clearly a dirty frustration foul by Amare. Got beat downcourt by the relatively slow Bogut.

I am slightly surprised that his shoulder wasn't injured, considering it did a 180 fling around the joint. But damn, 3 injuries on one arm, and your shooting arm?

No that was more horrific. That was a clean break and was his last snap of his NFL career. Bogut will be back.

that gif really shows how bad that looks, they showed it on tv here in Australia except from a "nicer" angle.

I've seen some horrific injuries, but this one probably beats the Nathan Brown broken leg injury in the AFL here.
I am sure the Aussies on this board have seen footage of that.

I feel sorry for the guy, he was having a good season, Bucks were doing well and looked to be a team that could create some excitement in the first round.

I hope for a speedy recovery, but what I hope most is that he can come back 100%, cause it won't be easy to come back from this injury.

I think the Nathan Brown injury was a lot worse to be honest...Broken leg is a lot worse as well. There is a chance Bogut could make it back in time for the playoffs, less than likely but don't rule it out..Broken hand is only a 4-6 week injury and the broken hand is probably the worst part of the injury.

My poor tigers lost again tonight. So disappointed about Boguts injury. I hope he has a speedy and smooth recovery. The Nathan Brown injury was much worse IMO. His leg was hanging at a right angle. Look it up on YouTube, horrific, never the same player again. Hopefully bucks can pull off a couple of victories In the po and bogut gets all NBA and all d recognition.

Just saw the action in slowmo, Amare really is a dumb-ass...; nnevermind.

All it takes is a slight contact/push in the air to knock someone off balance, and then just stands there like a goose. I don't think he will receive any standing ovations in the Bradley Center anytime soon.

Where ever that report came from it's wrong. Bucks offical press release says dislocated elbow, sprained wrist and broken hand.

Well, that replay will stick around for a long time.
Not quite at bad as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEVaRrWL4Hg , but it's not for the weak hearted.

I'm with the group that says that a player should not be touched in any mannor that can give them uncontrolable momentum while in the air. That should be a flagrant foul, even if it was just a nudge. It wasn't on purpose, and I don't hate on Amare for it. The flagrant call was right, but it's a shame that the refs don't call games right to begin with, otherwise players habits would be different, and momentum-driven fall-injuries would be minimized.
He shouldn't be suspended with a F2, as far as Amare goes, this is done and over with for him, the flagrant will not be retracted.

Good luck to AB. So far it sounds like he has minimal damage for such a hyperextention dislocation.

Joe Theismann anyone? :violin:

I get shudders thinking about Theismann injury. It was so bad, Lawrence Taylor, the guy who tackled him, IMMEDIATELY was calling for Redskins trainers to get out there. You know its bad when the opposing team is that concerned for you.

I'll also throw my hat in the ring along with ZOMG and Crystallas. When an offensive player rises off of one foot like Bogut did here, especially when a two hand dunk attempt is imminent, any sort of forward thrusting contact from behind (no matter how slight) instantly raises the stakes and turns a difficult play into a potentially dangerous one.

Last night I only had the gif to work off of and in that baseline angle, it really didn't appear that Stoudemire made any contact. However, having now seen the broadcast angle, it's quite apparent that Amar'e is likely responsible for Bogut's fall in my opinion. I don't think he was trying to injure Andrew and it looks like he may have just put a hand on him as an afterthought, but I do believe that's why Bogut fell.

There's a huge difference in completing a two hand, off one foot dunk at a speed you're accustomed to vs. coming in quicker and out of control. I really don't want to be this guy, but I think people who can dunk are probably the ones that can truly relate to and understand the feeling of being nudged like that on a takeoff like Boguts'. I'll throw my hat into the ring and admit that I was nudged in a similar manner on a one-foot, two-hand attempt and that extra force flipped me over a defender and ruptured a tendon in my hand.

As a whole, I'm just not that big a fan of full-speed, one-foot, two-hand takeoffs. If I'm pulling one of these off, I need to make sure there's no defenders in the vicinity. Even then, it's often not enough:

Vladimir Radmonovic Flip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP7n41CURKc

Wyoming Freshman Adam Waddell Flip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspB8upM8rc&feature=related

Also, without a clip, I remember New Orleans Hornet forward Jackson Vroman breaking his wrist on a similar dunk attempt in the mid-2000's.

HE definetly got got shoved. but the way he fell on his arm like that it's his fault and nobody elses. He had plenty of time to removes his arm but he thought he keeps it down and he won't fall on his back.

No ligament/tendon damage in the elbow is a major positive. His sprained wrist might be the injury that takes the longest to heal. But if this injury report is correct there doesn't seem to be any long term risk to his career.

F-ck man. The path for the Cavs just keeps getting easier and easier.

You're kidding, right? What were the chances the Bucks meet up against the Cavs anyway? They are the 6th seed right now, which means they would have had to get to the ECF just to meet up with the Cavs. That was not going to happen. However, some team will now get to beat up on the Bucks quite easily and be fresh for the Cavs, so most likely this makes it a tiny bit harder for the Cavs.

Real shame. It was finally worth it to have so many Bucks games broadcast here in Australia! Doesn't matter about the World Championships, we'd have gotten dicked anyway, but I hope Bogut can get back from this and continue elevating after his breakthrough season.

Btw, Nathan Brown's injury was way worse - I remember that was the only thing anyone was talking about for days after that injury.

That injury looked horrible.

Is it possible to completely recover 100% from that injury? Without lasting stiffness or something like that?
