1. Rocky Raccoon- Even if they were spoofing a genre, they still did very well and this is one of my favorite Beatles songs overall. The first half is great.
2. Norwegian Wood- Haunting, short, and sweet.

From what I've heard, these two are underrated, maybe they aren't overall, dunno, just wanted to mention these two songs. Anyways, add your own.

Dear Prudence and Norwegian Wood are both top 5 Beatles songs for me. Both are amazing.

I'll add And Your Bird Can Sing. To me this seems like the perfectly arranged pop song. I guess it might be the more "down" Lennon lyrics which didn't allow this song to be as highly regarded among the more casual fans as some of their other more poppy songs. I think it's great though.

I'm not sure where these songs are "ranked" so I'm just going to list songs that stick out to me.

Help:
Hide your Love Away
I've Just Seen a Face

(Rubber Soul and Revolver are my favs, I could every song, but I'll pick a few)

Rubber Soul
Norwegian Wood
Nowhere Man
In My Life

Revolver
Love You Too
She Said, She Said
For No One

Sgt. Peppers
Within You and Without You

The Beatles
Yer Blues (specifically because of This live version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTFqMazgHWM))
Dear Prudence

Their last albums have none that stand out in my mind, but I haven't listened to them nearly as much so that might be why.

Same here. Maybe since we all immediately thought, "Norwegian Wood," it means that it isn't underrated? :confusedshrug:

I'll throw out the entire Side B of Abbey Road. It is one of the great album sides in music history and it really doesn't have an individual hit single.

If I'm forced to narrow it down to songs off of that side, I'll say Sun King (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23n7O6cwJis) and Golden Slumbers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e_j66mgTDE). "Sun King" may, in fact, be my favorite Beatles song ever.

What is this 'black culture' that you speak of? There were plenty of black people taking part in the 1960s counter-culture (hippies) and The Beatles most certainly did have an enormous impact on the entire scene. Jimi Hendrix was notoriously enamored by The Beatles, but he played *shock* the blues... Which isn't classified as 'black culture'?

You can also find plenty of r&b influences in The Beatles' music, which they helped shape for decades to come.

20 bucks says your a white ginger, the fact you feel the need to go into multiple threads to express your "blackness" just proves it.

Edit: Anyways who do you think the Beatles influences were? R n R music was predominantly "black" music in the 50's, which was when the Beatles were first forming. If I remember correctly it was because of listening to Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis that influenced John to first form a band

My reply was to Mamba and his theory that the White media is keeping Elvis and MJ from being the GOAT musician (though I don't understand why he thinks theres a GOAT)

well Rocky Raccoon is one of my favorites but that one gets played on the radio quite a but so I don't know if I could call that underrated.

I really don't hear I'm a Loser (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=5r0HTV7WkQk&feature=related) all that much and thats one of my favorite early songs from them. Is Dig a Pony (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meRX9zgwE9U) considered lesser known? What about Happiness is a Warm Gun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBfXdbmjnbY)?

First of all, Elvis is garbage.

Second of all, MJ isn't even in the same genre... Are you stupid?

I have alwyas loved The Word from Rubber Soul - those 3 part harmonies are classic beatles.

I also think I've just seen a face is really great, I love She's A Woman which i dont think was released.

I also love Boys with Ringo on vocals as well as Ringo's Don't Pass Me By.

Also, they do the best version i've ever heard of Money and they out do the marvelettes on Please Mr Postman. And they out do Smokey (with one of the best vocal melodies I've heard) on You've Really Got A Hold On Me

And finally, probably one of my fav lennon vocals on Run For Your Life

What a band!

McCartney at his best. A simple, haunting melody ala Eleanor Rigby. It was recorded with just McCartney on piano, bass, and vocals and Ringo on drums. Alan Civil played the French Horn solo. Paul wrote it while vacationing with his girlfriend Jane Asher in Switzerland. Presumably they had a spat.:oldlol:

When Paul played it for George Martin he told him to get someone to play the solo on the French horn. Martin knew that the high note in the solo was out of the normal range for a French horn. They tried it anyway and Civil nailed it.

Some songs that I think (I may be wrong) are not that famous as other Beatles songs.

Within You and Without You

Hey Bulldog. I think most people don't even know it.

She's leaving home.

I will

For no one.

Norwegian wood

Here, There, and Everywhere

Don't let me down (did even make the original let it be algum! I think that album is underrated).

Rain.

Helter Skelter - I'd bet most can't tell it's a Beatles song when they hear it.

Dear Prudence.

I'm only sleeping.

Yer Blues

Is it true to say most people usually know more early beatles songs (she loves you, i wanna hold your hand, love me do, help, yesterday and so on) than the later Beatles songs (from rubber son on)?

Nothing against early Beatles though. Also love that period. But later, they became a much richer band, experimeting with several styles and helped rock evolve. Hard rock, progressive rock, pop, metal, beatles influeced everything.

PS: Besides songs like Hey Jude and Let it be, of course.

Probably a good mix, although maybe favoring the latter. Everyone will know the 3 early ones you listed. People will know more songs on the last 2-3 albums.

Dear Prudence remains the most underrated song in The Beatles' catalogue. That song is breathtakingly beautiful. The droning guitar, the way Lennon croons the melody, the constant fluctuation of the drums, George's guitar embellishments, all building up to that orgasmic climax with the drum solo. Leaves me in awe every single time.

Apparently Paul played the drums on this one because Ringo briefly left the group, although others claim that Ringo later re-recorded the drums. Regardless, the drums in this song are amazing.

Possibly my favorite Beatles song.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

You're probably what? 16?

Go ask an older person above 50 and they'll tell you about the Beatles. It was hard NOT to know a Beatles song, it was hard not to be influenced by them.

Everyone from James Brown, Aretha, Stevie, hell.... all of Motown was influenced by them, George Clinton and Parliament swears by them, Earth Wind and Fire tried to make their own Sgt Pepper's, everyone from funk to soul were influenced either directly or indirectly.

Jimmi Hendrix was a stan if you didn't know and the list goes on and on.
