Just ordered this cue here:

http://www.ozonebilliards.com/stcudohasc3.html

It's got a Dooley handle which helps to control the cue. I've played with it before and it's phenomenal. Got it a little heavier at 21oz. I feel I've got a little more control at that weight.
I'm wanting to get back into competative pool. Me and my bro have had a team assembled for the past year but never taken it on. Kind of been egged on by a guy and his team at our local place we shoot but we always encounter these guys just blitzed. Now that I'm getting older and the knees are getting more shot I'm going this route.

I grew up with an 8' table and played a ton, but I don't go out as much since I moved so I only get to play when I go home for the holidays. I'm not down with the twist cues, but I do prefer a heavier stick like yourself.

I admit, I was sold on the esthetic part of it, but the dooley handle actual helps with controlling grip. That's probably my biggest weakness is miscuing. That and choking on the 8.
8' tables I have more problems with although my jump shots are deadly on them. I prefer standard bar table.

I love the 8' table at home. It's tough, but it's free. When you get to the bar, you feel like a superstar on that kiddie table.

Ha, true. The pockets get bigger, the rails are more forgiving.
I have a 300' loft I'm thinking of putting an 8' table in.

Wow, I guess pool is a lost art. With all the filipinos on this board I thought there would at least be a dozen more responses.

80% of the people here can't even go out to the bar. Eliminates most opportunities right there.

Lol, true. I picked up pool when I was 13 and started to play competatively at 18.
Kids can't go to casinos but evry high schooler can play holdem.

I used to play everyday at my old university. I haven't played in a year I'd like to get playing again, but I've lost my old cue.

Any recommendations for a nice, but cheap, cue?

I only played starting from a young age, because my dad was in a rock band, loved it so much at the bars he'd gig at, and bought one for our house.

I grew up on an 8 foot olhausen, used to be very good at one time...there was a time when I could run out a few 9-ball racks in a row...

that was years ago though...

I had a McDermott

that cue you got in that link looks like a gimmic cue to me...

but I haven't been around the pool seen in quite some time...if that is where cues are going today then wow...

I played with this cue before and the way the dully grip is like really does help with cue control. I agree that cues have become more gimmicky, especially the wrap. I once bought the first cue to come out with a linen wrap. Didn't help at all and it unravelled really quickly.

McDermott makes great cues with really distinct bumpers. I mainly concern myself with the wieght. I like my cues a little heavier, break cue heavy cause i like the emphasis on the power, but i got good speed control.

you shouldn't break with your "nice" cue...use a crap cue for that, you can bust up the tip after a while...or warp it some...

I bought a cuetec all graphite cue once...I think it was one of the first that was made of all graphite or titanium or whatever...

anyway, I ended up not liking it very much after a while...

the wood with powder just felt much smoother than it did...

http://www.cuetec.com/

loks like they have grown a little...

can't find the cue I had though...guess they quit making that stuff...

I do have a break cue, but i like all my cues heavier. I just have an easier time controlling speed with it. Plus it work well as a jump cue for me if i get put in that position. (legal jumps, not the hit underneath scoop shots)

TBH, I suck on bar tables. I gt used to playing on the 9 footers with smaller balls and smaller pockets and those big ass, scarred up balls, slow ass felt, and completely unpredictable table turned me into an amateur.

I used to play a ton of pool, was decent I guess, but hardly play anymore. I never had great cue ball control but I did have the ability to make really difficult shots on a fairly regular basis, just because my poor control of the cue ball made it necessary most of the time. I could run out, but be an absolute zoo doing it, changing ends of the table 3 times, making ridiculous angle shots, just because I was never any good at getting the cue where I wanted it.

Yeah, in my hometown house that I grew up in we had a pool table, so I used to play a lot. Now I only get to play when I come back home (like this weekend. Just got back). I love pool. Lotta fun.

I'm big into billiards myself.... recently recieved a McDermott 22 oz that I've been using a lot lately.

Do you serious players bring your personal cues to the bar, or only when you're at a pool hall/tavern?

The place I play the most is a dive bar and I'm afraid that if i bring it, either a target will be on my back or it'll get ruined.

I've never brought my cue to a bar/club. If I play there, I just use whatever cues are there. Granted, I don't go clubbing very often and when I do, I typically don't play pool, but I have several times. I just play at my house or a friend's house with some friends.

At home I have a super heavy break cue. I love that thing. Makes it tough at the bar. I guess the real problem is no one in the bar can get a tight rack to save their life.

Never at a bar. That just looks plain cocky. But at a pool hall yeah.

Wow that's a heavy cue. If the style of cue I bought could go that high or even 23oz I get it.

It's one of my favorite hobbies. When I was in my early teens I copied the moves of the greatest Billiard player in history Efren " The Magician" Reyes.

I am planning to buy another billiard table.

At my best, I probably would be in the top 5% on here, grew up playing pool, had a pool table in my house as a teenager. Used to take kids money like it was nothing:oldlol: . I walk past a billiards spot in the annex every weekend and I'm always tempted to go in there but nah...that would probably be the worst spot for a person with my personality.

Certainly most pool buffs have seen this, but it's always worth a watch. The 3 and 4 ball shots were unreal.

im pretty good at pool.

i can hit pretty much any shot from any part of the table in (except the ones that are practically impossible)

my next step is to try and figure out how to make the shot im goin for and at the same time set myself up for the next shot.

Pool player here....sup....

What do you guys want to know?

I play with a :

Jacoby 5-point cue maple/tulip wood points, 18.1 ounce 12.75mm shaft

Break cue is a house cue but mostly I break with my shooting cue. One of a kind Jacoby cue that was purchased from a billiards show in Las Vegas.

I only play on 9' tables.

I like playing, but not enough that I will ever own my own cue.
