It seems like you guys did a great job on the movie, good work man. We need people sonics4life to expose us to truths that the "liberal" as well as conservative media doesn't really like to expose us to. I already knew what you were preaching before the sonics got traded but it is such a tragedy that the sonics are no more especially for me since I was born and raised in Vancouver which is 10-20 minutes away from Seattle. I remember watching Jordan play against Seattle in the 90s... anyways no matter how hurt someone is that they're team left town in the end the entire business is just that.. business.. you can't expect anything less in a capitalistic society/government.

edit: oh yea btw dont pay attention to that person you were responding too.. most likely he's a gimmick who gets off at pissing off other people.

CLOWNS

Jesus Christ invent a time machine and convince your mother to get an abortion. Please, just stop wasting my oxygen cause you were clearly conceived by a weak sperm since your dad was jacking off and your mom sat on him at the last second.

The ownership moved the team, they had no intentions of staying in Seattle and traded away all valuable assets to make the product so horrifying that nobody would want to come. Are you really that dense? Don't talk about something you have no idea about.

The Clippers could move and nobody would give a shit. Why? They didn't win a championship and have accomplished SQUAT, and they will forever be in the shadow of the Lakers. The Sonics were Seattle's ONLY professional sports championship team.

Here's what it boils down to:

Don't have an arena with a bunch of restaurants and luxury boxes? You lose your team
Don't update your arena to fit David Sterns standards every 20 or so years? You lose your team

To much to read for you? Probably. No wonder America is dwindling into one of the dumbest nations in the world. You're like FOX News, spew vile venom without actually reading the facts. Shoot first, ask later.

Btw, props to all the SonicGate people and supporters. My brother (primarily a Blazer fan, but always liked Seattle as well) moved to Seattle the year before the Sonics left. I know he is struggling watching this series because he grew up always hating the Lakers and now that he lives in Seattle, there is no team for him to see live games at (about once per 2 years he makes it down for a Blazer game). So now Lakers and Thunder are his two most despised teams and therefore he doesn't know who to root for.

it would be a shame for the Pacers to relocate with all that history. i agree that they're in trouble, along with SAC, NJ, NO, and MEM.

the Grizzlies will move for sure, they have zero playoff history in Memphis, and they were stolen from the Northwest in the first place, so they are the team i'd like to move to Seattle. unlike OKC, we have respect for the basketball history of longtime NBA cities.

I don't understand why it would be such a problem to post a quick summary of the movie, rather then continually trying to promote your film on a forum. Not everyone wants to watch a 2 hour film. If you truley believe the films message is that important, quickly summarize it to the hundreds of basketball fans that frequent this forum on a daily basis. Maybe if it has any merit, it could spark ones interest in its viewing.

And to all those that keep reititerating comments such as: 'you are so wrong, if only you knew..' why don't you contribute something productive....such as informing people of the supposed 'truth' of the Sonics relocation.

summaries of the film exist all over the internet. it's too complex and time consuming to boil down in a blog post. that's why we made the movie free to watch online when we easily could have charged money for it.

From a totally non biased and non-educated point of view on this subject (haven't seen one second of the movie) I think all the people with negative comments about this are looking at it the wrong way. It's not JUST about losing the team, it's about losing the team without warning and for no reason. It's not like they were the Nets of the league, they had a future. It'd be like the equivalent of Bucks being moved, they are a borderline playoff team with a decent fan base and a bright future, if the NBA can't guarantee that a team like that or Seattle (that's a close comparison if I remember correctly) can stay in the city then what's the point of being a true fan at all if you're not in a major basketball city? (you know the kind) Just bandwagon if that's the case.

It'd be like the equivalent of Bucks being moved, they are a borderline playoff team with a decent fan base and a bright future, if the NBA can't guarantee that a team like that or Seattle (that's a close comparison if I remember correctly) can stay in the city then what's the point of being a true fan at all if you're not in a major basketball city? you have a pretty solid grasp on it without having seen the flick. it's about more than Seattle, tho it is partially about keeping the momentum alive to bring a team back here, of course..

this is about every NBA team and how the business of basketball has changed in the modern era.

It's not like they were the Nets of the league, they had a future.
Yeah, but the Nets have a future. Brook Lopez, Terrence Williams, Devin Harris (if they keep him), Courtney Lee, and possibly John Wall or Evan Turner. They also have the cap room to sign a guy like Joe Johnson.
A better example for you to have used would be the Pacers or Warriors- two teams in nowhere land. Unless one of them wins the lottery, they are not bad enough to get good quick like the Nets can.

I do feel for you guys but I'm not sure what you hope to accomplish at this point in time. The team's gone and won't come back anytime soon. Even if another team moves to seattle I don't think they can change their names to the supersonics anyway right?

Although it'd be hilarious if you could get a bigger group of people to show up wearing sonics gear and sit right behind their bench. Ofcourse getting tickets is the problem :(

Yeah, Seattle reached an agreement to hold on to the Supersonic's name, colors, and history. Gary Payton refused to let OKC retire his jersey number and is waiting for Seattle to get another team before he retires his jersey.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't Seattle guaranteed another team or someone is getting sued?

So should the team have had to continue to play in a 15 yr old ass arena with no fans just because of history in the city? Seattle was giving their sports teams arenas left and right. Bennett said we want 1 too or we're leaving. It was voted against, alright peace out then.

Now that they're winning, Seattle people want to act extra salty and complain. I didn't see them at the games last yr when we only won 23 games.

Yeah, and a couple were ABA teams that moved early on-
Nets from New Jersey to New York and then back to New Jersey
and
Spurs from Dallas to San Antonio

The biggest moves from a standpoint of a good team that was in a city for a good while (in no particular order)-
Cincinnati Royals moving to Kansas City/Omaha and renaming the team the Kings (note: before moving to Cincinnati, the franchise was located in Rochester)

Charlotte Hornets moving to New Orleans

Minneapolis Lakers moving to Los Angeles

Philadelphia Warriors moving to San Francisco

St. Louis Hawks moving to Atlanta

Buffalo Braves moving to San Diego and renaming the team the Clippers

Seattle Supersonics moving to Oklahoma City and renaming the team the Thunder

this is different from all those other relocations for a few reasons:

The Sonics were in Seattle more than twice as long as any other relocated NBA franchise.

The backroom deals between Stern and Bennett are a level of scandal never seen before.

Also, to the OKC people who think this just started because you made the playoffs, think again. It started in 2006 when Schultz sold the team to Bennett and hasn't stopped since. We've been fighting for justice and will continue to do so until those who lied and betrayed us are exposed and pay the price.

Don't take this as anything against the fans of OKC. You wanted a team and that's fine, you probably deserve one. You just condemn yourself by co-signing the way Bennett/Stern/Schultz stole it from Seattle after 41 years of history and support. And yes, we did support the team in ways you will only understand anfter you have a team for 41 years. Call me in 2049 if the team is still there, which i highly doubt considering the new NBA business model and the ridiculous precedent Stern has set with the Sonics situation.

The length a team have stayed at one city or the amount of support fans give have absolutely no bearing on why it shouldn't/couldn't be moved. NBA is a business and it has the right to do business however it like, even at the expense of teams.

The only thing that makes this unjustified is the alleged illegal backdoor deals. You should argue the case from this standpoint and this standpoint only.

Went to a Laker party to watch the game and my buddy spotted those guys behind the bench. I'm glad to see that they are raising awareness and shedding light on what really happened. Everybody in the room I was in had no idea what Sonicgate was.

BTW....to the people who are trying to clown on Seattle and/or Sonic fans for being salty, you have NO idea. I'm 23 years old and grew up on the Sonics. I used to go to games and watch Gary Payton, Nate McMillan,Hersey Hawkins, Detlef Schrempf and Shawn Kemp play some great basketball. We had more than a few shitty years, but also had a lot of good memories and even a Finals run against Chicago. Come to Seattle or talk to a fan and you will realize that we have some of the most loyal, supportive fans in the NBA. Kinda like the Warriors. Ever since Schultz bought the team, everything has went downhill. The only reason I don't bash him more is because he does a lot to help out the local community. Still, he's money hungry jerk. Same goes for Clay Bennett. They tricked everyone and got away with it. When someone takes your team like that, after 40 years of a lot of blood, sweat, and tears....THEN talk. You kids have no ****ing idea.

Sonic4Life, I love what you are doing with Sonicgate. Let me know when T-Shirts are available because I really want to get one. I'm trying to go to game 2 (I live in LA) and I really want to support my team and raise awareness. Thanks....

understandable perspective from an outsider but you have no idea how painful it was all the sh!t that went down to steal our team. no self-respecting human could root for Clay Bennett's Oklahoma team after experiencing that.

and yes, it might seem counterproductive to hold David Stern and his cronies accountable for their actions since he is in power to grant us a team, but really it's not that simple. we have to convince a lot of people here locally in Seattle (politicians, fans, and especially rich businessmen) to invest in a new arena before we can even think about getting a team. so we are doing what we can, showing that we are true fans who will never forget and never be silenced.

and yes, we are definitely bitter. the doc covers why, and anyone who experienced it would feel the same way.

^ it will no longer be newsworthy when a team named the SuperSonics and all the history is returned to Seattle.

until then, get used to us!

way to take the level of discourse down a notch. notice i haven't said a single derogatory thing about your redneck populace or any other okie stereotype. this is about the owners, Stern, and the political officials, not the fans. i've never said anything about OKC having bad fans... but you certainly give that impression with the way you represent on the internet.

Well you just did there ...

You just sound really sad and bitter. I'm not from OKC, by the way.

Waits for an OKC product to respond by calling the Seattle natives out on being whiny, faggy, elitist, ***** like coffee drinkers

yea he took it there first so i responded in kind.

all i'm saying is this isn't meant to be pitting fans against each other. i know okies tend to take it that way cuz they get defensive about the way Bennett stole the team, but the Sonicsgate movement is not a slight on their fan base in any way.

you should probably google soncsgate before you speak.. you really come off as a ignorant fool with this post...

i looked it up and was surpised to find that not only is it a movie/documentary on the move to okc but a history of the sonics, which i had already known about from watching some of the movie..

but more importantly i learned that there are people not associated with the film at all that think this movie should be on the big screen, real movie folks that think the movie is so well done it could be making money for the producers, but instead they have stuck to their original goal and made it available for free.

this is not some fly by night youtube remix, it's the real deal, made by folks who obviously know what they are doing when it comes to filmmaking and the history of the sonics

take some to to educate yourself, you'll look alot less foolish in the future

Nice little post except that it does not relate in any way to my post. I make no judgments on the quality of their flick or the "righteousness" (though:  for real.) of their cause. I don't think they are doing this to make money either.

My post was about how pathetic this is.

What, so because one asshole took their shit away it's okay for them to ruin other people's fun? Cause you can't have your cake you are going to make it someone else's problem? That is a truly pathetic mentality to me. It's not about the Sonics. It's about pathetic little rich kids who feel victimized and couldn't find a better cause to devote their time and money on than a sports team moving to a different city.

Yeah, I'm sorry that I feel bad for people with real problems instead.

How are those guys making this anybody elses problem? They have a right to buy a ticket to whatever game they want. They also have a right to wear whatever jersey they want and wave whatever sign they want. If you don't support them or the cause, then ignore it.

When it comes down to it, I'm sure that they paid good money for those seats. They are enjoying they game like anyone else but also raising awareness to something a little more serious. It's nobodys problem except for Sonic fans, David Stern, and Clay Bennett. This is what you get when shady things happen and everything gets swept under the rug.

it wasn't one guy who stole our team, it was about 30 if you include the state legislature.

we are not rich. we are scraping to get by. this movie was funded with donations by loyal Sonics fans from start to finish, including the lucky gift of the Lakers seats.

we enjoy the league as much or more than anyone else. we had one of the best teams in the league for 41 years. the film crew still subscribes to league pass and plays a high-stakes fantasy league.

LMAO at how some basketball "fans" get scared and react negatively when they see true fans who will never say die. being a die-hard is supposed to be respected. sorry it's inconvenient to expose this tragedy to the world.

this is about more than Seattle. it's about the ridiculous precedent David Stern has set by allowing this move to happen. i know people in SAC and IND feel me right now, and unless you are in NYC or LA, your team will feel it soon too.

(thanks jumpa)

Sonics crowds always seemed very loud and boisterous on TV. You just don't get that from too many locales anymore. Such a shame.

Sorry to all the fans up there that had to deal with losing a team. My sympathy goes out to you.

^ appreciated. yep, we were one of the loudest crowds in the playoffs as determined by decibel meters, and players like Charles Barkley said it was one of the toughest places to play as a visitor.

Awesome, when and where can we get the documentary?

Now that you think about the situation it really sucks because with Durant entering super stardom so early he could've easily helped keep the Sonics in Seattle had they been a little more patient.

right on elaments. too bad Stern/Clay conspired to steal the team. the Sonics had a valid lease in KeyArena that was set to expire at the end of THIS season!! no way the team would have moved if they hadn't weaseled their way out of it.

the film is free to watch on our website. enjoy!

i always had and forever will wonder of the decision on the judge's desk. I'm not a sonics fan, and i know franchises have every right to move. The problem is that a lot of ppl in power just kept on trying to fool the citizens. If Shultz really wanted the new owner to keep the team there...he should have put that in the contract. Stay here for atleast 10 more years with the only way to back out of it to reach a mutual agreement with keyarena. If it wasnt about the money to the mayor, dont take the deal. Instead everyone in power just kept saying whatever the masses in Seattle wanted to hear, while the franchise kept on dying. In my mind, the Thunder has 0 championships, and I'm sure many fans will keep it that way.

Being a Mavs fan though, I'm extremely proud of my team's owner in doing what i felt was the right thing and voting NO in the decision to let Bennet move the team.

Gotta give props for you guys for doing this, just seems like a whole lot of effort for little reward, not really much chance of OKC moving back to Seattle i there?:ohwell:

Also would you still be supportive of the team if by chance they were to revert back to Seattle Sonics?:confusedshrug:

P.S: Not hating just curious:cheers:

The team had nothing to do with it. KD, Jeff Green, Collison....these guys were Sonics before the move. If they were to somehow come back to Seattle, I would welcome them with open arms and continue to support them. People have a tendency to not like the team and location as well as the owner, but it really makes no sense. Thunder players were caught in the middle and had no say. Thunder fans, however, seem to be generally annoyed by Sonic fans and usually end up trying to clown them. Usually it's out of ignorance/guilt and is a bunch of nonsense. I have no issues until they start talking reckless...

People can say what they want but at the end of the day, they have no idea what it feels like to have a team stolen from you. Even if their team is doing bad financially, I'd bet anything that a situation like this would be hard to duplicate. Too much history....too much money....and too much funny business.

First of all, great job on the documentary. It was extremely well done and shows what the NBA has now become.

For all the people here saying move on and get over it, it just clearly shows what type of basketball fans they are. Any die-hard basketball fan would not be okay with this. I was angry about this move before, and am even angrier now after having seen the documentary.

After you have put so much of your life into a team, and to have it taken away from you the way it did, it can never be replaced or the pain healed.
How can Sonics fans ever cheer for the Thunder, when you have a majority of real basketball fans who hate them because of what happened. Anyone who knows of the Sonice history would not be able to ever cheer for the Thunder. Do I think they have great players, yes, but will I ever support the team...Never.

For all the Lakers fans in here spewing bullsh*t, think about it this way....How would you guys feel if Jerry Buss died, and the team got sold, and the new owner wanted to move it elsewhere, and succeeded? Are you telling me you would still root for that team and would not be upset. To see Kobe Bryant playing elsewhere, and see his jersey retired in another color, in a different arena?

Come on now, nobody would be okay with this. The only people that truly are, are the OKC fans, or people who didnt care too much about Seattle and dont know how all of this went down. To all the OKC fans saying move on, put it this way, how would you feel if this was you. If the Thunder had been in Oklahoma for 40 years, and the team got sold and in two years moved to Seattle. If you would be okay with it, it proves my point on what type of basketball fan you are, and why you dont deserve this team.

no hate taken. all we're trying to do is restore the 41 year legacy of the Seattle SuperSonics by exposing the truth about what happened and keeping people talking about it. Ultimately that is the only way we stand a chance of getting a team back, even though it probably won't be "our team" with Durant, etc.

If they move the Grizzlies or Hornets or whoever to Seattle and rename them the Sonics i will become a fan again. but as we state at the end of the film, we will not feel good about making fans in another city feel the way we feel. David Stern has set a terrible precedent as he continues to destroy the soul of the game.

Thanks for the support and Sonics forever!
