What were the sports you played and for which years of high school? How successful were those teams? How good were you in those sports? Which positions did you play? Any awards? Which was your best sport, and which was your favorite sport?
*expects a lot of lying, but try to be truthful*
Basketball
Played my soph, junior, and senior years with my last 2 years being on varsity. Never was a regular starter even my senior year. Played against some good players including Scootie Randall (now on Temple) who was the public league player of the year. My senior year team had a 22-6 record (http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/Vx-kv1lPYEiwDduU0NJ2cg/frankford-pioneers/basketball-winter-07-08/schedule.htm). I've got no idea what my averages were or anything like that. I'd guess and say somewhere around 6 ppg or so. I lived in the corners like Bruce Bowen. At 5'9" 170 driving to the basket wasn't really my thing and rarely went to the line, but I do remember hitting 16 straight free throws on the season or some shit like that. Probably my best accomplishment. :lol I wasn't that tall, athletic, or the best ball handler...but damnit I could shoot.
Baseball
Played all 4 years and was by far my best sport even though it was probably my least favorite (not that I didn't like it or anything, loved it). Switched between 3rd base and shortstop. Primarily 3rd but our shortstop was also our best pitcher so on days he pitched I'd switch to short. I was varsity all but my freshman year. Hit 2 home runs on JV my freshman year but had 0 the rest of my 3 years on varsity, but was a very good contact hitter and walked a lot (lead-off hitter). Above average with the glove and though I'm not all that fast I was very good at base stealing. I was never fast in other sports but running from point A to point B I was always a little faster (such as 1st to 2nd). I was all-conference senior year, 0 HR's, don't remember averages. 18-3 record (http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/Vx-kv1lPYEiwDduU0NJ2cg/frankford-pioneers/baseball-spring-08/schedule.htm) (2 of those losses by 1 run as you can see)
Football
Played just sophomore and junior year. Was never really all that great, lacked size and athleticism, and was usually hurt. :oldlol: Played WR and CB and only played varsity my junior year, but didn't start. Saw a lot of special teams. Didn't play my senior year because I was worried about keeping my grades up even though I probably could have handled it. One of the regrets I still have.
Other sports
Did wrestling my freshman year and I sucked. :oldlol: I absolutely hated it too. Not to mention my school's wrestling team was great and it made me look even worse. Hated all the weight watching and all that. It was my first time ever doing it too so I shouldn't have had any kind of expectations but still didn't like it. My basketball coach always wanted me to try track in the spring to help my stamina but couldn't because of baseball season. Never did tennis, soccer, or anything else.

Played basketball all four years. PG. Senior year I averaged 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists.
Played soccer my grad year, I was terrible on defense, but I played.

Baseball
definitely my best sport. i played four years (finishing up my senior season this year) with each year being on varsity. i play third base and pitch. i was all-league second team last year and also got team MVP and i'm doing quite a bit better this year so hopefully i'll make first team
Basketball
i only did basketball for one year (senior year). i was always a good basketball player and i play all the time so i finally decided to try out for the team because friends on the team kept insisting that i try. so i tried out and made it and i was probably the best shooter on the team. i did really well in some pre-season and tournament games at shooting guard but i messed up my hip flexor pretty badly and sat the rest of the season out :( i'm 5'11 and only about 160

I was a 4-year varsity pitcher for my High School team. I was an average hitter and defensive player though. If I were good at those areas, I probably would be playing baseball for my current College.
I played basketball my sophomore year and that's it, and was on the JV team. My teammates were cocky douchebags and I wasn't friends with any of them.
I played football in my freshmen year, but I sprained my ankle really bad, so I decided to stay away from that sport since baseball was my sport.

Played QB in a run oriented offense (we had three 1000 yard rushers) only had like 6 pass attempts a game but I was usually like 5-6 100 yds 1 td from a little dump to one of the tailbacksU think I could have handled a lot more their was just no need. my senior year we went to the semi finals in the state playoffs previously the farthest my school had gotten wa the first round like one time in the semi finals we were up by 3 with like 2 min and their wr caught a ball clearly out of the endzone and the ref called I a touchdown and we lost. The next morning their was a picture in the paper with his feet outside the line before he caught the ball pretty shorty end to my football career.
Played baseball all 4 years at right field hit like 2 hr nothing special
played basketball from like middle school got cut in 8th grade because ivwas a "troublemaker" so I quit forever and just played rec ball

Soccer - Hurt Frosh Year, played JV. Varsity the next three. Leading scorer Jr & Sr years. 3rd team all district (funny this was that my coach didn't even nominate me. me and him weren't ever on the best terms)
Basketball - Frosh team, played JV & Varsity soph year. quit after that
Track - Varsity 3x, (got kicked off team Soph year...) team won districts 4x. Made regionals in Long Jump Jr & Senior Yr. Made Regionals in High Jump Senior year (first year i tried it... would've made states however i missed the event stuck in traffic lol) made regionals in 4x100 in jr year. was alternate for 4x200 frosh year. stopped doing Sprints after soph year other than that 4x100.
best sport was Track, got lots of scholarships for it in Ohio, however i wanted to play soccer and didn't want to go to school in Ohio. So i went to small D-3 school in NC to play soccer.

Any motivation to play college baseball? My friend is playing at Rutgers-Camden (DIII) right now and is a pretty good pitcher. He's a soph and trying to transfer to a D1 school to walk-on next year.

Pot Smoking
I could smoke with the best of them... Almost everyday before first period me and the boys would smoke a joint or two. It sucked walking into History class blazed out of my mind, but it was also exciting. Then after school we got out the big toys: gravity bongs and stuff like that. Sometimes we got real risky and would blaze up in the boys room.
Gym Class
I was a pretty damn good basketball player whenever we played in gym... I averaged about three or four blocks a game which was cool, because there is no better feeling than saying "Get That $hit out of Here!!!" I was also pretty damn good at flag football, I caught many passes.

Played my freshman and sophomore year on the JV squad. We weren't any good. Decided to focus on girls and partying my junior and senior year when I realized Basketball wasn't taking me anywhere.

Football - Starting WR and DE. Once caught 3 touchdowns and got 4 sacks in the same game.. missed senior year because of injury.
Basketball - Played PF.. undersized at 6'1 but used my strength and athleticism well. Missed senior year from same football injury.
Track - Ran 200, 400, 4x1, 4x4.. got 2nd in the league for the 400 as a sophomore, but pretty much peaked that year because I put on mass for football.

This, other then that I've never been one for sports in school. I'd rather play with friends casually then the douches who played sports at my school.

Rugby League
I played league in my first and second year in high school, played centre position which would be like WR. I was pretty good.. you could say i was in my "prime" i loved that sport though i got over it. We got knocked out i the semi's our first year and second year we won the grand final.
Basketball. ( first and true love )
I played basketball every year in high school. I played point guard. You could say i was good. Our first 2 years we got knocked out in the semi's. I remember the second year semi final, we were down 1 with like 30 something seconds left and i had the ball, my mate set the pick and i got free, i pump faked and drew contact but the ref didn't call the foul and we didn't know what was going on and the opposing team got the ball and scored a lay up.
The 3rd year we won the grand final, it was a great feeling. We beat the team that knocked us out in both our semi finals. The score was like 52-48 and i had around 8-10 points.
Our 4th year was our worst. Our best player left to play A grade basketball. I remember him telling us he was gonna stay and play with us, but the bum ditched us :lol Since he left we got the green light shoot.. and that's what i did. We won like 2-3 games out of 10+ but we didn't have a centre.. so we played small ball.
I remember our last game that season.. that was probably my best game i've played for school. Our current best went away on holiday so that promoted me to lead the team :pimp: My first 2 years of ball i didn't get to shoot much.. i had my chance.. basically when ever i got the ball i shot. I was chucking a "kobe" from the 05-06 season.. though i was hitting the majority of my shots... when players say the hoop looks like a hula hoop b/c they on fire.. that's what i felt.
My coach's son use to come and watch us play.. he knew some basketball but he pissed me off.. guy use to criticize everyone and everything we did.. and when i shot 2 threes in a row.. he told me to drive and dish the ball..I then chucked threes from New Zealand... got one but missed most of em..
I don't know what i finished with.. but it felt guud. We did win the game also.. which was better and I got my shots :pimp:
My next year i played b grade basketball.. i wasn't happy since i wanted to make a grade.. though my time would come. We didn't have a very good season. I blame the coach since he wanted us to have fun.. though to have fun you gotta win, so he let everyone play equal minutes and stuff. Though he was a good teacher and a noice guy i still hated him outside of the classroom.
My last year of school i made a grade. Good feeling, though thr guys of my team i didn't really like. I was the starting point guard which was good, though if one person didn't get the ball they would complain. I loved playing defense alone with another guy but most of them just wanted to score.
We made the semi and lost again.. pissed me off big time.. since no one really cared. I had an alright season.
I won a few awards.. mostly best team player and one best defender :pimp:
I've now retired from organized sports.

BASKETBALL
Just my sophomore year in HS, on JV. I was one of our best shooters but didn't get much playing time due to my size, 5'9 and 150. I tried out my senior year, I had just moved to the school and didn't make the team.
TENNIS
Played junior and senior years. I was anywhere from 1st-3rd singles and played a few doubles matches. Don't remember my record but I definitely won most of my matches.
TRACK
Just senior year. It was my first time trying any of the events. I ran the 55m dash, 400m relay and the high jump. I ran around a 56 in the 400 and jumped 5'4. I had terrible form in the HJ but did alright anyway.

Basketball
3 year starter. I came within 60 points of 1000, which I probably missed because of knee injuries I had in my junior and senior year. I missed a month of my senior year because I dislocated my patella and had to recover. We made playoffs one year and missed by one game in the other two.
I regret not playing football. I feel like I would have made a pretty damn good reciever especially considering how bad our teams recievers were. I definitely would have started but didn't play out of laziness. **** two-a-days and summer camp. :oldlol:

Yeah it depends on the athlete or what level of competition it is. I could see a player in single A doing something like WR and DE.
But I know you have said your bro plays at Ohio so he probably did that stuff just because he is a great athlete.

It all depends on the size of the school he went to. Like I said, say someone plays at a Single A school with like an enrollment of 500-600 it wouldn't be surprising for that to be the case.

Yeah whenever I tell people that they don't believe me, but it's true. The league I was in had a bunch of good passing teams, I wasn't a traditional DE.. 6'1 220lb speed rush :oldlol:. But I wasn't just a quick guy they threw on the line, was pretty strong for my size too. And as a WR.. our team ran a lot so I helped block. Most of my TDs came on play action bombs

2 years of JV football, a year of JV basketball and a year of varsity. 2 years of track and field as well Never started, and hardly ever played. I didn't really like the jock crowd too well, and the politics of high school sports. Maybe it was different where you guys are from :confusedshrug:
I moreso just enjoyed playing pick up games with my friends. As it is, my grades were kinda average, so it felt like too big of a time committment, and I was also responsible for paying my car insurance, and buying my own clothes, etc, so had to have a part time job.
Wish I had played more now, looking back on it, but that was over 10 years ago, so nothing I can do about it now.

with equivalent ages to us high school to over here in the uk
Basketball: bench warmed for three years as 12th man, 0-10FG shooting in three years, 0-4 FT attempts. broke the record for never actually scoring, nearly tied with my best mate but he had to go hit a damn FT. in one game i picked up a tech and that was my highlight. so yeah...i'm $hit
though at the same time i did play for a local bottom league mens team, where i actually had an opportunity to play about 25mins/game as a 6thman averaged like 6ppg, 5rpg 1bpg

My best memories are from little league. The one year my all-star team was beastly. We were like 25-1. My last game ever was an all-star game and I came in to pitch the last three innings and threw 3 perfect innings. I wondered for the longest time if I could have thrown a perfect game if I had started lol.

Basketball
High school comp isn't the pinnacle of competition here in Australia. If you're decent you go play for a club. Though nearly all the club kids played school ball anyway and took it a little easier not to get injured. I think in year 10 I ended up playing on the year 11/12 team and averaged 25ppg or something ridiculous that year since I was really into trying to become better with every game and all that. The next two years though I just got lazy and let the other kids do the work. I think I dropped off to about 5ppg lol, and never really took a competitive interest in basketball again. At that point I quit club and state basketball.
After that I got into Aussie Rules Football. Though seeing as most of you don't know what it is, I won't get into it.

Don't be stupid. I see alot of WR's playing DE depending on the defense and what the coaches want. Some times the team will play 2 standing ends just to rush the edge and contain the outside. Where I come from the DE's main responsibility was the contain the edge and make sure nothing comes past them. Having a fast player like a WR will make sense and if he has decent size it could work and be effective..
I'm a football guy.
Played football and played positions from LB,DE,DT,OT,OG,Flanker. I started every level I played at(Middle school, fresh, JV, Varsity) I'm going to be a senior next season and I'm going to be a 2 way starter. This past season on varsity I started around 3 games. I'm around 6'1-2 ish and 210ish pounds. I'm going to start at OT and DE next season. I Had around 30 something tackles my fresh yr, JV yr- 28ish tackles 4 sacks,

4 years of Varsity Tennis. Got to states my sophomore year which was pretty fun. Other than that, we were mostly mediocre.
I enjoy(ed) playing basketball but I was never good enough. In a school with like 3000 kids, its tough to make the team.

Basketball
Three years on varsity. All-Conference as a junior, All-State as a senior. We won state my senior year in the second biggest classification in the state. I was a 6'4" SG/SF. Played a little 4 man as well since our half-cour motion was a 4 out 1 in. I'm a coach's son so I pretty much had "textbook" from the time I was in 1st or 2nd grade. I was always known as a 3 point specialist. Shot 92% from the FT line and 44% from three as a senior. I was a career 40/90 player in high school. I grew up playing PG and SG since I was usually pretty small. I was still 5'8" after my 9th grade year then hit a couple of growth spurts to hit 6'4" by the middle of my senior year. Played a year of JUCO ball, nothing real special. Eventually rached 6'5", measured with a 8'6" standing reach and a 6'10" wingspan which was nice since I wasn't blessed with muc lateral quickness, so I could makeup for some of it with my length. Never was a star in college. I was your typical 6'5" token white guy. Didn't have great hops, not overly quick. and even when I busted my ass on defense I was still prone to giving up layups. However, I could shoot it with the best of them (on that level anyway), due to shooting 500-1000 shots a day I had legitimate NBA range. Basketball was my favorite and best sport but I really got burned out on it after a year of playing college ball. Playing year round since about the 3rd grade had really taken a toll on me, and I knew I wasn't going to play professionally anywhere, so I decided to quit and just get my degree.
Baseball
Started off in 9th grade at SS. After the growth spurt caused me to love some of my lateral quickness I moved over the 3B. Solid player on a team that made the state tourney all four years I was on the team, but we never made much noise. I was a so-so hitter who shined in the field. Don't know why but I LOVED being in the field. I had a knack for making relatively tough plays my whole life. On the flip side, though, average to below average would be the best way to describe me as a hitter.
That was it for me sports wise. Football was king at our high school but I never had the desire to play like every other kid who groew up here did from the time they were 5. I was in the extreme minority of kids who loved basketball 1st and 2nd, baseball 3rd, and football was a distant 4th.

GOAT Mathalete at my school. (jk you wish I pandered to that stereotype)
I ran cross country for 4 years, but I was never that good, I just did it to stay in shape. Personal best was 20 minutes for 3 miles I think. Also did track and field which I was better at, my best events were pole vault and triple jump but I really forgot what my personal bests were there.

My younger brother started running track two years ago as a 10th grader. It was just a spur of the moment decision on his part. He was on the basketball team, he and about 4 other guys had been having problems getting along with the coach, and all of them quit basketball to join the track team. I've turned into a bit of a T&F junkie the last several years. He's a 2:01 800 runner and a 4:38 miler. Not elite times but he's been good enough to qualify and place at state all three years.

i played varsity basketball. i was 5"10 about 160. i started my last three years. it was my favorite sport growing up and missed a little time my senior year due to a knee injury. that ended up not making my dicision to not play in college. oh well,
Track
i was the 400 m region champ my sophomore year. also went to state in the triple jump and 800. this was sophomore year.
junior year... my 1600m relay team had the top time in the state going into regions.... i sat out the open 400 becaue we were going to go for the team title, only to have our second best runner run in the wrong lane for 17 consecutive steps... not bitter or anything....
senior year... reinjured the knee that i hurt in bball had to hang up the spikes
Cross country
personal best... 5k in 17:32

I played jv and var tennis.... was assistant coach for the girl's soph team in my varsity year.
I never played tennis in my life before joining, don't even remember touching a tennis racket before in my life. But the team was desperate for members, and none of us really had any experience.
Needless to say, we sucked big time and the only reason I got any points was due to my athleticism.
I wanted to play basketball.... tried out my soph year but didn't make it, although I had a very solid tryout. I figured the coaches were racially biased (I'm Mexican) so I didn't bother trying out again.
Wanted to play football, but my mom didn't let me.
Didn't care for baseball, soccer or track.
The only reason I tried out for tennis was for the girls...mmmm... mmmm... mmm.
Too bad I was shy, skinny, short, dark and full of pimples and chicks usually considered me the 'friend' type. I was also nervous and awkward around them, so any chances ultimately failed.
Although, I do remember a few cute girls having crushes but I was to oblivious about it at the time, and to scared to act on it.

Actually playing, varsity soccer, but I quit because I didn't want to go to practice 5/6 days a week and the team was complaining that I was too aggressive (Which I am extremely aggressive when playing sports, but I don't mind others doing the same. I think it makes it more fun) and I pretty much called the team out when the coaches talked to me about the team complaining. I don't want to be on a team with a bunch of pansies. Other than that, I didn't do other sports for the school. Before 9th grade, I went to basketball camp and I was one of the 6 freshman that they were thinking of taking for JV, but I never tried out that year. Then sophomore year, I went to try out, but didn't make it as I only made it to the second-day of tryouts because I needed a new physical. (With those sports, especially basketball/football, they already have their teams picked out during summer, so I should have tried out freshmen year, or at the very least, go to camp summer before junior year and then try out). The guys on the football team always tried to get me to play football, but the team was scrub, like real scrub. My freshman year, they were good, almost made state (one round away, I believe), but after that, they sucked. 6 or 7 wins total in the next 3 seasons. I also considered doing weight-lifting, but I don't like working out 5 days a week and being told how to work out (Though I am always open to and like helpful suggestions).

Roleplayer for JV soccer team sophomore year
Cut in december junior year
That's my resume. (For the record, our team went to start three years in a row. And you've seen me guys, I'm not big or fast. All I got is skill and knowledge of the game.) If in shape, I have no problem keeping up with these guys in pick up soccer games.

basketball:
every year grade 9 thru 12
grade 9: backup center: was pretty good all year, good shot blocker/rebounder off the bench. finished as 8th seed and I was best player in our like 60-20 playoff loss :lol if that counts for anything
grade 10: starting center: probably averaged like 8 points 10 rebounds and a lot of blocks. I literally took like 5 shots a game, defense was my game.
grade 11: backup center again: wasnt used much this year as we allow players to return for a 5th year. saw spot minutes defending other big dudes.
grade 12: backup center: played solid minutes, shot a lot more when I came in, solid defense.
volleyball: one year in grade 10: did decent I think for someone who had never played before (havent played since), Im so tall even with my limited hops I could still block and hit pretty good.
baseball: grade 11 and 12: the team's first year was my first year lol, we didn't win a game in either year, pitiful. I was like lyle overbay, good defense but I couldnt really hit. Doubles randomly just like LYLE.
tennis: every year: played doubles, usually came in like 5th or 6th in the city. I was average.
football: grade 10: starting left tackle: team lost every game, I was one of 2 lineman who could hold a block for more than half a second lol. this year I would get overpowered a lot some farm boys from the outskirt schools in grade 13 would plow me lol, happy to know it was their last year.
grade 11: starting left tackle and defensive tackle: team barely had enough players so had to do double duty, also played on kick return lol but lots of players did similar things so I couldnt complain. we almost won a game this year, I did my job.
grade 12: left TACKLE: was fun, I think kids are getting smaller generation after generation lol, we won 1 game finally, cant remember why but for some reason there was a facebook group for this game and some players from both sides talked shit back and fourth, we won something like 30-28. tbh I manhandled their defensive end all game as did our center and left guard lol like the vikings but we had retards playing on the right side of the line so ruined it. fun times tho.

Most runners either love or hate the 800m. It's almost short enough where you can sprint the entire two laps, but not quite short enough, and it's just long enough where you have to pace yourself and save your kick. It's a tough demanding race.

i really thought there would be more basketball players on this site
Same here. Out of any given number of posters, I figured 95% of them would have extensive basketball backgrounds. Interesting.
In my own regard, I played JV as a Freshman then started on our Varsity squad for each successive year of high school (Sophomore, Junior, Senior). Due to an extraordinary school-wide shortage of tall basketball players when my class came through, I was our club's starting power forward at 6'3''. For a bit of perspective (and perhaps clarity) I played for a Class B school in Michigan; out of four classes, B is the second largest.
At my peak I averaged 14ppg and 7rpg. Believe it or not, a 14ppg average was enough to fall in the top ten of that category within conference. During high school contests, I played a relatively simple and straightforward game, in sharp contrast to any other time I played ball. I was reluctant to shoot jump shots (never hitting over 30% of my threes for a season) and scored most of my points via layup or free throw. As a result, in my peak season I shot 50% from the field and 88% from the free throw line (on well over 100 attempts). I liked to think I just maximized opportunity.
I was unanimously named (along with a coach and two other unanimous teammates) to the All-Conference First team one season, All-Conference 2nd team another season, and then the All-County team in addition. My junior year, our starting five scored 90% of our teams' points and went three months without losing a game before bowing out in the playoffs to our conference rival and eventual State Semi-finalist.
Career Highs:
Points - 26
Rebounds - 15
3PM - 2
Once made 39/40 free throws over a stretch of season
Career Assists - 42 (I'll do the math, that's .68 apg)
Career Blocks - 14. . .as a three year starting power forward (.22)
One Dunk
And yes, I have all my statistics on file, I'm not just pulling all this from my head. . .it's a slow Friday.

I wasnt very athletic at all in middle school on till about midway through my junior year of highschool, but I just kept working and eventually got better then most of the more talented guys who didnt work as hard as me. That has always been my line for the most part and is the one real thing I take away from my highschool athletic career. To the breakdown:
Football: My first love, played from middle school to the end of my sophmore year. Basically I played because I was very quiet but I got friends this way and thats really the only reason I stayed as long as I did. I was a two way starter as an offensive tackle and a nose tackle or end and was mostly better on defense then offense because I cared more about my defense. My best game was against our cross town rival on JV my soph year and was also the game that made me decide it just wasnt worth it. I had 8 tackles for loss and a few more besides and we still got blown out by 21 points. I just burned out after that and after I went to all the previous early morning workouts the sophmore/freshman year so I could be a tight end and at the end of it all they told me they never planned on giving me a shot. I didnt come back my junior year for varsity and instead did what any redblooded american boy would do and...
Cross-Country: Yep, I joined cross country my junior year to hang out with the beautiful females on the team. I naturally assumed I would be really good since I was good at football and getting more athletic. Lets just say I was very very wrong :oldlol: My first ever 5K I ran was a 24:45 while we had some guys I had previously considerd nerds (still were, but besides the point...) were coming in at 18-17 minute range. The fastest I ever ran was my senior year at the last race in districts where I couldnt break 20 minutes by 23 seconds. Coach still letterd me as a thank you for coming out and being on the team.
-Quick Note: my roomates in college right now agree that I would have continued to be a two way and two year starter on varsity football had I kept at it. I believe I could have been very good at least. I ran only 3 races on varsity in JV but still feel looking back that this was the best switch ive ever made in my life.
Basketball: I feel that I gotta bring up middleschool again to show how far I really came. I made the C team in 7th grade and it was by no means a mistake. I worked and worked and worked in the offseason and the head coach as an 8th grader for the A team pulled me up when looking back im still not exactly sure why he did. I think he saw potential, but ive never asked him and should. I still have the schedule where I put my points each game and believe me, it wasnt pretty... 0, 0, 7, 4, 2, 0, 5 and 0 for the regular season. However, playoffs I stepped up or got lucky and scored 10, 9 and 14 points to win the district championship that year. If I didnt have that confidence from that year I doubt I would have continued to work has hard as I did in basketball. The highschool varsity team won state that year.
Now finally, into highschool I made freshman team first and it pissed me off cause I felt I was better then that. They told me that if I did great on freshman then they would pull me up tho, so I worked hard and for the first 10 or so games I averaged over 14 points per. They sent down one of the guys who made sophmore and he tried to take over the team and took alot out of me as far as something to prove because by then it was clear that I was stuck here for the season and my numbers dipped to the end of the season right to at 10 points a game and a firstround exit in our district tournament in a very bad beat. Our varsity won state that year in a 25-1 campaign.
As a sophmore I was very motivated to prove people wrong and the best thing that could have ever happend to me came about in my 8th grade coach getting moved up to JV. He knew what I was capable of or at least enough that he brought me up to JV where to be honest I really didnt do too well. I struggled because I was timid and because my older teammates didnt give me a break, I only averaged around 4 points a game and a few rebounds tho I dont have accurate stats. I was an important cog of the team tho in what I provided in intangibles and hustle and we ended up winning the district championship in which I had another great postseason surge in numbers. The varsity made it to the state championship game but lost that year.
As a junior on varsity I continued as a minor role player who would occasionally step up and have a big game with 4 games scoring 10 points or more. My 8th grade and then JV coach got the nod for the top varsity job right when the year started so I was given the wonderful opportunity to work with a guy who believed in me and I had a connection with for four years of my basketball career. I felt like I was an even more important piece to the team and I continued to work hard in the weight room and on the court and by the end of the season it was apparent looking back that I was really starting to surpass the starters and most of the seniors as a basketball player. We won districts that year after losing our first 4 games of the season and went to state where we won our first game and then lost our next two for a 5th place finish at state with a record of 19-8. I averaged 5.5 points a game and 4 rebounds as well as 2 turnovers a game with a highscoring game of 15 points.
As a senior it was clear to me in the offseason that this was my time. I would split time with two other quality bigmen but played a different kind of bigman role that would be needed. We had a current class of 2011 D1 commit to Gonzaga running the point for us and all around we ran 6-7 deep without any dropoff in talent where we started the year as the number 1 team in the state at any division. I was one of three team captains and was definately the quiet one who when I spoke you listend and if I felt you were not working hard enough you got an earfull as I had established myself as a tireless worker. Im not making more of myself then what it was, it was just the perception of everyone who knew me and it has followed me to college ball now. In our last preseason game I felt a bit of a tear and rip in my lower abdomen which turned out to be a double hernia... I played the entire season anyway. I needed some soul searching early in the season with my first two games scoring only 6 and 4 points, but after that I started to roll and so did the team. We cruised through the regular season to 20-0 record where we then kicked ass in districts and won the district title for the 5th straight year as a varsity team.
Going into state we played our first game to a double overtime win by 4 points where I had a double double of 10/10. The next game we won in overtime with me getting 7 in the overtime before a stinger took me out to finish with 14/9. In the state championship game I wont make excuses and just say that I was far too timid to play good basketball. I had only 2 points and 2 rebounds but I take solace in the knowledge that the guy I guarded (now one of my roommates in college) scored only 14 points off of 13 shots. It was easily the best defensive game I had ever played and we were able to pull off a third overtime game in three days to win the Idaho 4a State Championship. I was one of 6 players to average more then 8 points a game (9.5 personally) and I finished averaging 6.5 rebounds a game. That first stat is what makes me proud because we were not a team of just individuals so much as a team with lots of pretty good guys who worked great together to win it all without more then a sophmore who would prove later to be a superstar. I was named honorable mention all state and we went 26-0 my senior year and set the record for my schools all time field goal percentage at 64.3%
http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l425/Fallguy20/Ballin.jpg
I got some interest at D1 but nothing substantial, no where with good academics at the D2 level either and so I settled for a private school where I took a redshirt this year so I could get healthy after my double hernia surgery that I played with and made worse during my senior year for which I only missed 2 games. Im heading off on an LDS mission sometime before next September and I dont know if ill play basketball when I get back, but I cant help but think that ive already taken away so much more then I ever would have thought from basketball that it doesnt matter if I continue with it.
Cliffs: Good at football but switched to cross country junior year, played basketball and won 5 district championships and a state championship in basketball while going undefeated my senior year in basketball as a team captain. Was never the biggest, fastest or strongest or smartest but worked harder then those who were and I feel like I came off the winner because of it.

you must have some decent splits going if your 800 time is that good and your 400 is that bad. although there is definetly some time to improve both.

I shouldn't have said it so matter of factly since I never ran track. I was basing my statement on what my brother and other friends that ran track had told me. And not all of them said the 800 was tougher than the 400. I just hink more kids that I've talked to that ran both pretty regularly told me they thought the 800 was the toughest race. As demanding as the 1600m and 3200m are, though, Alost everyone that makes a claim about a certain race being the toughest, I almost always hear the 800 or 400.
I wish I had ran track in high school but I'm afraid I didn't have the kind of athletic ability that would have translated that well into good 800/1600 times. Probably would've been a 2:10-2:15 800 guy at best.

Yeah, like mattevans said, you'd probably be better served just concentrating on the 800. 2:18 isn't bad at all for a 9th grader. With the right training and work ethic you could have your time down in the 2:05 range by your senior year. Of course I'm not sure how good a 2:03-2:05 800 is in your state and classification. Here it will usually place you at least 6-8 at state. In a down year it can get you top 5, but then in a strong year you'd have to run a 2:03 or better to place. I live in Arkansas, and we aren't really known for producing great 800m guys, so times might be better where you live.

depends on a lot of things... some people grow a few inches after their freshman year while otehres are pretty much done growing. if you got some growing ahead of you.... i think a sub 2 minute could be a fair goal.

Yeah, taller people with the longer legs and strides are built very well for the 800m. Of course I've seen some pretty shor t kids the last sevearl years run a 1:58-2:01 so it's not a necessity.
The time's and all that, that I was talking about isis for the 3rd biggest classification in Arkansas. There have been years whre a 2:05 would have put you close to the back of the pack. In the two bigger classifications you pretty much have to run a 2:01 or better to place. Texas is where it's at for a lot of great high school times. Most of our sub 2:00 800 runners in Arkansas will try and go to a meet every year in Texas to compete with their guys since there are always a lot running in the 1:55-1:58 range.

Yeah I've definitely got some growing left, I'm only 5'11 and the other 3 guys in my family are all 6'2+. Also the last 2 years track was just something to pass the time, and now in HS its actually getting pretty fun. Oh and my mile time is pretty bad, I never run it.
Also for my location, I live in the U.P. so theres not a whole lot of competition. The school records for the 400 and 800 are 51.2 and 1:58 so I'm going to try and at least get close to one of those by the time I graduate.

Ran Cross Country for three years, made sub-sections (second round I guess?) my sophomore year. I also did Track and Field for three years. Did high, long, and triple jump and got MVP my sophomore year. I come from a small-ish town so my measurements were not outstanding by any means, they were just good considering the lack of elite athletes we produce. I also played ball for one year, stopped playing since I wasn't a big fan of the coach. And because I sucked.

Back in high school
He could throw that speedball by you
Make you look like a fool boy
Saw him the other night at this roadside bar
I was walking in, he was walking out
We went back inside sat down had a few drinks
But all he kept talking about was
Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days
.....
Now i think i'm going down to the well tonight
And i'm going to drink till i get my fill
And i hope when i get old i don't sit around thinking about it
But i probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
A little of the glory of, well time slips away
And leaves you with nothing mister but
Boring stories of glory days

I played HS basketball in IL and IN. Varsity my soph year and junior year and quit my senior year because i hated my coach and the towns we played in. I had already gotten calls and offers from d-2, d-3 (well 2 or 3 tops, lol) schools and figured that's all I would get so I focused on academics.
I played two years of baseball and despite not playing my senior year i still got an offer from a small school in Wisconsin. I was pretty flattered.

Played everything in my freshman year, but then i realized i live in Macedonia and its pointless to lose energy on sports so i started studying.
I still play basketball and soccer with friends almost every day but nothing competitive
My biggest accomplishment is probably running 11.14 in 100 metres

Ran Cross Country and Track all four years in high school. Still do in college.
Timmy D for MVP

Marching Band. Euphonium. 4 years.
Marching Percussion. Snare Drum. 2 years.
2 Regional Championships
1 State Championship
4 Finals Appearances and tbh we got jipped out of a repeat for State.
I had a decision to make. MB demands all your time and effort during season, and MP does the same. So I was not going to be able to do both music and basketball. I choose music. It took me to China for the Olympics and helped get me my job so... no regrets.
But I would have liked one year just to see what I was capable of in organized competition. But such is life, decisions must be made.

Basketball:
Varsity 10 and 11 grade (injured 12th grade)
10th grade we were decent, 11th grade we won the Conference Championship against our arch rival who we hadn't beaten in years. They won the championship my senior year, but I was injured playing volleyball and wouldn't have been able to play until February. They also won it the year after I graduated, and then this previous year they won the conference championship (4 straight). Damn were we nasty. Our best player was james michael mcadoo who is at UNC and is expected to be their go to scorer this year. They also had 2 kids that are playing football (defenses) at the University of Virginia. Also a kid that played at a small D2 school (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNOYdnVTIms) and the PG will be playing at a small d3 school as well. This is a vid of our PG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-6DLhQE6kE I thought he was a beast. If he was taller, D1 recruit for sure.
Volleyball: 12th grade
only played 12th grade, wish i would have played all 4 years. Made 2nd team all conference and didn't even know what I was doing for half the season. after the season was over, I was playing at this pick up sort of thing itn this huge wharehouse, and I blew out my ankle bad. the trainer lady twisted it 45 degrees and I almost barfed. I was in a boot for like 7 weeks. Got out of the boot and had no strength at all. I was doing this weird rehab thing we had at our school, but it didn't really help. I was able to play tennis, that year because it doesn't start until like april, and I was able to move enough by then. I was much better at doubles and staying at the net because I was stiill tender on m ankle.
High School
Basketball: 1 year JV my Junior year. Sat on the bench most of the time. Didn't try out my senior year. In hindsight, I would have made varsity my senior year just out of loyalty.
Track: 4 years, 3 on varsity as a sprinter. Was the #2 sprinter my junior year, and the school's #1 sprinter my senior year. Earned team MVP senior year..
College
Track: 4 years as the top sprinter for my school. Earned team MVP senior year.

Basketball:
JV Freshman and Sophomore year. Varsity Junior and Senior Year. Played the 3 for the most part although my skills translated better to the 4 (too bad I'm undersized tho).
Football:
Played JV for Freshmen and Sophomore year. Played WR and CB. I was pretty average which is worse when you consider the fact that our school sucks ass at football. I coulda gone to varsity junior year but I wanted to play bball where I'd get more playing time.
Track and Field:
Did track every year in the spring except for junior year (fvcking school work). Good way to stay in shape. Took it mostly as an exercise other than a competition cuz i was no where near fast compared to some of the mfers in my school

Did track in middle school, I sucked, lol. 2:30 in the 800 in 8th grade
I played basketball since I was like 4, lol. I didn't make the 7 grade team, which pissed me off. Also, a lot of people made fun of me cause I told them I was the next Kobe. So, I practiced hard, made the team in 8th grade. Made jv as a freshman, played jv as a sophomore, played varsity as a junior and senior. Never got any offers from colleges, so now. I quit basketball, focusing on my education (im Asian)
I'm proud of the fact that I got to play next to possibly one of the greatest players ever in James young. Look him up, we played at Troy high together last year. James young is 5th best hs player in the nation. We oop each other a lot

Volleyball:
I played 4 years of volleybal, 2 years JV and 2 years Varsity. I never thought I'd play this sport since I loved playing basketball. I tried out for my freshman basketball team and didn't make the final cuts. After, my friend talked me into trying out for volleyball so I wouldn't have to take a regular PE class. So I did, and eventually made the team. Turned out to be one of the greatest choices in my life. It soon became a passion of mine right on par with basketball. The conditioning changed my life the most. I lost so much weight as well as increased my speed, stamina, and vert. I'm 5'6 1/2 and I can touch the rim. Volleyball actually helped me become a better basketball player. Couldn't picture how my life would be without doing it.
We don't call students freshman, juniors etc in NZ.
Instead we have Years 9-13.
Year 9 (13/14)
Year 10 (14/15)
Year 11 (15/16)
Year 12 (16/17)
Year 13 (17/18)
Athletics (Year 9-13):
Y9: Won long jump, won high jump, 2nd in 400 meters, 4th in 100 meters.
Y10: Won long jump, won high jump, 2nd in 400 meters
Y11: Won long jump, 2nd in high jump
Y12: Didn't compete, took the day off school to go surfing with my dropout friend :D
Y13: 2nd in long jump, won high jump, 2nd in 400 meters
Also came second in the school cross country every year. My best friend won each year, and was the guy that beat me in the 400 meters.
Basketball (Year 9 -13):
Year 9 I sucked. I played point guard (I was SHORT), and had pretty bad handles, and couldn't shoot. I would often pass to our big center by throwing the ball of the backboard (OK, I was a chucker and a bad shooter). I spent every single day working on my game with much older guys at a near by school - I also had a growth spurt boosting me up to 5'11". I transferred schools for Year 10 and started at my age level as a SF, but handled the ball a lot. I made the Senior team for a few games, which is usually unheard of for a Year 10 student.
I played every position over the next two years, but our various coaches never gave me a shot at point guard due to now being 6'2". My senior year I would do the jump ball (I was now 6'4"), then get the ball back and bring it up court. Played point guard the majority of our time and averaged close to a triple double. No one kept stats other than scoring, but I can recall rebounding a lot, and setting up teammates (passing over shorter players was easy). I wish we had the same level of enthusiasm for high school basketball here as Americans do. I'd love to see my stats, I feel like I would have averaged over 5 steals a game and a couple of blocks. We placed 3rd in our province for my senior year, and we also made the national high school tournament. I made the all-tournament team, even though our team was pummelled - I had one decent teammate who I would consider a basketball player.
Cricket (Year 9):
My friends asked me to play, and I hated it. Fielding is about the most boring activity in all of sports. My guess is that I would've hated baseball as well. My highlight was playing against the high school I transferred to the following year, and scoring 6 out of our 12 runs.... my team was horrible, we were demolished.
Rugby (Year 13):
I played when I was younger, and my mum pulled me out because I got into far too many fights. Our high school rugby coach asked me if I wanted to try out as a senior, and I thought it would be pretty easy. He wanted me to play lock (which is a forward in the middle of the scrum), I was skinny as hell, but tall. I grew up playing on the wing due to being fast, and was the 2nd fastest player on the team. I took a big hit at one of our practices, and decided I didn't want to play in case I injured myself for basketball.
Volleyball (Year 10):
I sucked, so I quit. My forearms hurt like hell after every game.
Water Polo (Year 13):
Toughest sport I have ever played. I went into it cocky as hell, thinking that I could walk in and be the best player due to being a life guard (strong swimmer) and an a natural athlete. I made it through one practice and quit, got punched under the water a few times, swallowed a bunch of pool water. Terrible experience, and I had a lot more respect for the nerds at my school who played it.

Basketball
i only did basketball for one year (senior year). i was always a good basketball player and i play all the time so i finally decided to try out for the team because friends on the team kept insisting that i try. so i tried out and made it and i was probably the best shooter on the team. i did really well in some pre-season and tournament games at shooting guard but i messed up my hip flexor pretty badly and sat the rest of the season out :( i'm 5'11 and only about 160
How tall was your point guard? :D
I played baseball two years (junior and senior) CF and pitched. I played soccer (Center MIddle mostly) sophmore year until the team was disbanded. I tried to play basketball and made the team and literally never played because i played backup PG and they never took our PG out of the game. I wasn't bench warmer, i was practically literally a piece of the bench.
My personal highlights include a game winning homer taken away and called foul (that was like 30 feet fair) and me subsequently getting tossed for saying a bad work (like WTF) and not being allowed to play the next few games are per the coaches rule. My actual highlight was a game we need to qualify for a tournament and we were up 1 or 2 runs and our pitcher got the yips and walked the bases loaded with 2 outs and i came in from the outfield on a 2-0 count (something like that) and struck out the person on 3 pitches. (I'm not King Felix or anything, just had a good moment, plus i can throw strikes and the person was determined to walk.) Everyone rushed the mound. Was quite fun.
When you say, you "won," do you mean you had the furthest jumps for your school? Or did you win some national competition?

Played Hockey and Lacrosse. Really good at Lacrosse, decent at Hockey. Basketball was my favorite sport but was far to terrible to play it at any level and didn't feel like sitting on the bench.

I have a poor sarcasm detector so I cannot readily tell if you're being completely serious or not. If you are being serious, I was wondering how long your games were in New Zealand? In the United States, high school games are 32 minutes long and even for the most dominant athletes, that's not a ton of time to pack in statistics that near a triple double average.
In fact, in person, I've seen only two high school players come close to accumulating triple doubles and both came in legendary or near-legendary performances. One instance came in a game where a kid scored 56 of his team's 96 points while also dropping nasty dimes alongside (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SthRVWoBscY). The other instance was a teammate of mine, who officially came one assist shy of a triple double in a double overtime game. Otherwise, for a non-super star to average something close to a triple double would be a little wild over here (not to mention the 5 steals and 2 blocks per).

I'm a super athletic 6'3 205 pound left handed guard with insane handles and defense. Im a terrible shooter shot 60% from the free throw line and like below 20% from high school 3. I played varsity since my freshman year started at forward and was the defensive anchor couldn't do anything on offence. Improved my handles the next year to play guard and i lead the team in points rebounds assists blocks steals. I had my first poster that year too it was on a shorter weaker white guy but i did throw it down on a 6'8 monster the next year. Only played half the season in my junior year because i had a kid and some other shit. Switched schools last year and i didn't have time to play but i am staying back a 5th year. I will be playing college ball somewhere

I also played volleyball my sophmore year which was boring football the next year and track this year.

Furtherest jumps for my school. I competed at the provincial level and was seriously punked.

We play under FIBA rules, at lower levels it's 2 x 20 minute halves. At senior level it's 4 x 10 minute quarters.
Either way, 40 minutes per game. In my experience, it isn't hard to rebound and run the break yourself. I had very few offensive rebounds.
I don't think procuring something close to a triple double average is that insane when you factor in the talent disparity on my rosters. Myself and one other teammate played for our province, but came 3rd in our provincial competition. The thing is I have always been an awful scorer, I have either used my athleticism or height to score. When your best player can't score, they're usually dominant in other areas. I would liken myself to an extremely weaksauce version of Rondo or Kidd, playing in a similar role to Derek Harper in high school (He played center and point guard).
Our running joke was calling me 'fentard.'
Fentard = F (forward) C (center) G (guard)
Good things happen on defense when you sometimes have up to 8 inches on your man, and you have the same level of quickness.
