Kid will be scared for life.

Edit. Police ruled it a accident. The kid will not be charged with a crime. His parents on the other hand might be a different story.

Poor kid, his life is f.cked. Parents should of had a lock on the box or at the very least have taught the kid gun safety. Damn shame...

Jesus Christ, that's heartbreaking stuff, "No he's dead!" Just standing over your best friend while he bleeds out.

Are gun locks a required purchase when you buy a firearm? Sure you couldn't make anyone use them, but it seems like a pretty logical thing that shouldn't have any controversy.

i wonder how the kid's gonna turn out as he gets older. i know it sounds cold, but i doubt he has much of a chance to be a functioning member of society...life is ruined :(

And your parents should have aborted you (along with your retarded racist buddy godofgods), but sometimes things don't work out the way they should.

Edit: This is truly a tragedy. I agree with Quizno, there is no way you can go back from this. His life is completely ruined over a stupid mistake. Hopefully instead of just throwing this kid in jail they can give him psychological counseling.

There is a reason for everything.

I honestly believe that.

I could care less how he lives up to society's standards.... how will he grow as a soul? His soul is scared... but he will overcome one way or another.

This accident could of happened to any of us.... I didn't play with guns at the age of 14, but I drove like an idiot at the age of 16 while my best friend was in the passenger seat.

I pray for that young man... he will grow up fast.

I hear a lot of people say they feel sorry for the kid but what about the victim?

I come over to your house and end up with a gunshot to the head?

Wtf?

At 14 he should have known better than to play with guns...I mean it's the parents' fault but he HAD to have known that what he was doing was terribly wrong.

I feel sorry for him [haven't listened to the tape] but I have to say that it is his fault though. He was probably trying to be cool, smh.

You think you had a bad day? You think your life is tough?

The kids took out the clip from the gun and assumed that meant it was unloaded, I doubt there are many 14 year olds who would be aware of having a chambered round.

Really it's bad all round, the (shooting) victims family lost a son and all the potential that goes on with a life.

One of the saddest things I've heard in my life.

A childhood friend of mine had this happen to him, almost the exact same way.

The kid he shot was a the son of a police officer, so there were guns in the house. They were drinking and starting messing with guns. They were both 14 years old as well.

My friend was holding the gun and it went off, hitting the police officers son in the head, killing him.

It was pretty dramatic to say the least, as the next day in school, they actually made an announcement to everyone about his condition.

I've seen the guy who killed him throughout the years and he seems to be doing fine, although I have never asked him about it out of respect.

Still, YOU KNOW the boys knew they weren't supposed to be messing with guns PERIOD. That young man made a choice and no matter how sorry we feel for him it has to be noted that he was doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing and now his friend is dead.

My uncle is a lifetime Marine and he used to have all sorts of guns around the house and no one ever got shot or snuck into his room to play with them because we knew that guns aren't toys.

At 14 you SHOULD know this.

I feel sorry for the deceased and the friends/family of the deceased before I feel sorry for him.

And that is respectful.... because why open up a bad memory?

He will never forget... and once he adapts to a life where nobody knows what he did in the past... he might be able to finally move on.

Somewhere in his heart he will realize that: "These things happen and he is not alone"

People f*ck up.... especially in their childhood.

I blame the mother more than the kid. Kid will be kids, owning a firearm means properly safekeeping them away from kids. That's usually why people own gunsafes...

Tragic loss, but hopefully a strong message is spread with it as well.

At age 14 I knew smoking was bad.... but I did it anyway.

Not every 14 year old will have the discipline that you had.

kids are kids.... and dumb $hit will happen.

I'm a father of two boys.... and I know they will encounter mistakes in life, I just hope they never reach this level of sadness.

Agreed. I have a 5 year-old and he doesn't exactly know right from wrong yet.

But at the age of 14 you do have an understanding of right and wrong [or you should].

It's not to say that this isn't a tragedy and it's not to say that I despise the lad because I don't.

Where I'm from 14, 15, 16, year olds are tried as adults for doing adult crimes....do I think he should be? No, not at all...but I do think that this IS his fault and the guilt that he is bound to carry is his and he should own it because that was a boneheaded mistake without question.

Maybe the message should change?

Parents: Don't let your kids have the opportunity to play with guns.

I'd never forgive myself if my child killed another kid with my own gun.

No offense but Americans can be very stupid. People blame kid for not paying attention the the Guns are bad talk. But Parents are to stupid to read facts that household guns cause more violence then it actually prevents? Its a fact. How often do you hear a family kill a intuder or even scare of a intruder witha gun who was threatining their life? But damn near every day theres a death due to accidental use of firearm.

oh the horror

People kill people not guns.

The kid could have overdosed on cough meds or electrocuted himself or set his house ablaze.

My point was that no matter how well you teach your kids their actions are their own....you can arm your kid with knowledge and resources and they could still end up doing something like this.

The parents are reprehensible, but the boy acted on his own.

I read he got 9 months ? .. sounds ok if it was indeed an accident .. but you never know .. he shot him in the back of the head and he said his buddy 'moved into the path of the gun' .. I guess it's possible but I don't know .. the whole crying shit is dramatic and everything but it could be an act
