Pretty self-explanatory thread content here.... I saw a pic of one in Kizzle's thread about something-or-other knocking hard.
Anyone care to enlighten me??

Its just the style. I used to play basketball with this guy who would never lace his sneakers, even in hardass five on five games. I once asked him why, and that's exactly what he replied with "It's just the style, man." Some people just think some things look better than others.

I guess I've just never been walking down the street or something and had this come to mind:
"Oh man, thats a sweet fitted hat..... but wait, it is major league fitted, is it certifiably authentic???? How will I know if he spent the extra, what, $10, $20 on that hat??? It would make him cooler if he did."

Saying "black people do it because they can" gives absolutely no insight into the trend itself, the rationale behind it, or why people think its cool. I saw it as a cop-out response with no critical thinking behind it.

The Joker may say that... but I think the complete opposite.
IMO nothing happens without some kind of reason or rhyme behind it. In this example, whether its because of personal preference or simply just to fit it, there is a reason behind the sticker. The reason I'm attempting to uncover.

Isn't that inherent in even quasi-cognizant people? Asking questions when they don't understand??
Maybe through understanding I wouldn't feel negatively about it.

Because they purposefully leave it there so that the rest of the world knows that it's "new", that they didn't just inherit it from their uncle or something. It's like "Hey guys, I just came from the store, where I spent money on this hat, because I have money to spend. I'm cool."
But maybe I'm way off. Maybe it has nothing to do with that. Maybe they're leaving the department store sticker on simply because they can't be arsed to take it off. That would be a lot of work.
Or maybe, it's because it's shiny and attracts peoples' vision.:confusedshrug:

Either or. Is that the point you're trying to make by leaving the sticker on? So that people know you have money? Why not just duct tape a piece of paper to your chest that says "I have money" if it's so important to you that people know? Seems pretty needy, either way.
When it comes down to it even the slightest status symbols, such as a shiny hat sticker, are compensatory in nature.
If its simply because the hat-wearer likes the look, then thats one thing, but I think any time its on there so that others know its new, then there's something behind that.

If you don't like my question, don't like me as a poster, don't have any input into the answer, or anything to add to what others are saying, well then why are you in here to begin with??
Dude you asked a question and when people like 1manfastbreak gave an answer (saying it shows your hat is "authentic" and not a knockoff) you just made fun of that answer. But then Shannon just said people do it to be douches and you lapped it up. Just admit you made this thread to make fun of people who leave the sticker on there hat.

There's no deeper meaning. People do it because it shows that it's an authentic hat and not a knock off.

Disagreeing with your intent, your question, your response (not really back and forth) and pretty much your existence on this board is relevant enough.
Boy do i just eat up this hate that a select few of you have for me and my posting style. Its just hilarious how worked up you get over some of this stuff.
If you disagree with my existence so much, don't read my posts. Hit the old ignore button. Constantly bitching about me just makes you seem like a f*cking loser.

Pretty self-explanatory thread content here.... I saw a pic of one in Kizzle's thread about something-or-other knocking hard.
Anyone care to enlighten me??
this is the gayest shit in the world.
I bought a Sox fitted last year and instead of having it in that big box they give you at the New Era store I just put it on and wore it out. When I was taking the stickers off, half the wig-wogs in the store were going 'whoa!' and climbing over each other to stop me from doing that. I laughed, and to add insult to injury I curved the peak.
BTW ipod 'bud' headphones fit my ears really well and I like them.

you're comparing to wearing headphones while using an mp3 player to keeping the tags on a ****ing hat?
its more like buying a car and keeping that specs sheet they always have taped on one of the windows. its dumb.

Hat's are generally for fashion. The sticker helps identify the brand, which is pretty essential to it's purpose. At the very least the sticker doesn't mess with the hat's function of blocking the sun or covering the head. The headphones on the other hand actually hinder the primary purpose of the device, which is to listen to music, because the sound they delivered was so inferior to the sound that the player actually put out. It's like buying a hat with holes in the bill.

That may be essential to some hat owners, but certainly not all.
Three most important things about a hat (to me):
1.) The team logo
2.) It fits
3.) The bill is of adequate size to block sun if necessary

if you wear a sticker on your hat you'll grow out of it. it will be the sort of dated trend that you'll be slightly embarassed about later in life. it's truly absurd for the record.
That is my hypothesis as well. I feel as though it'll end up being one of those things the next generation looks back upon and goes, "Wow, who honestly thought that was a good idea?"
I had the same question as the original poster. I always chalked up the trend as something started by someone with street cred and it just cascading from there. However, I always wondered if there was some kind of deeper meaning than that.
I feel as though the stickers on the hat thing will ultimately go the route of Hammer Pants, mullets and Zubaz.

I've got about 8 new era fitteds. I'd say about 4 have the sticker left on and 4 have it taken off. It depends hat to hat. But I always take the price sticker underneath the bill off.
I don't see why people get so uptight over something so small as a damn sticker.:confusedshrug:

I'll stop short of speaking for the original poster but it seems a lot of the response is not a matter of being up tight, but rather trying to figure out what the whole idea is behind this phenomenon. Throughout history, tags have been removed from products. Now that they're staying on, I wonder why. I have also wondered why people would pay full price for jeans that come with holes.
Often I think the only explanation is these are trends and that's what trends do.

Yeah but we should explore on how these trends surface. Somebody start these things like somebody start the Lochness monster and Bigfoot myths.
Who knows it might be started by a bunch of rappers trying to honor Tupac by leaving the shiny stuff on their hats so Tupac can see em from heaven. :lol

Why not just buy a hat with the bill already bent, no stickers, and save $10+ in the process?

The idea behind spending the extra ten dollars would be to acquire a better quality of hat, not for a straight bill and sticker, correct? I'm asking sincerely, for I was not under the impression that the "sticker" hats cost more simply because of the straight bill and sticker. Is that the only difference between those hats and cheaper ones. . .the straight bill?

Reminds me of wearing jeans and sneakers during the late 80's/early 90's with the tags still attached to it (not the price tags but the brand tag).

as far as the MLB hats goes, it's the authentic, on-field caps that are the expensive ones. It's the adjustable hats, or the non "on field" hats, that are cheaper.

I have no idea either. I just know new era makes hats with bent bills and no stickers for about $10 cheaper.
