Really, i don't want to appear racist and i certainly don't want to justify slavery in any way. But how come this part of the story is hardly ever told? Just curios?
The story is always told in a way which makes people believe that Europeans were abducting the blacks out of Africa. In reality however, they were buying them from other africans. So therefore, the african race was at least as responsible for slavery then was the european one. From a moral point of view, the behaviour of the africans was even far more disgraceful then what the europeans did. Yet,by Balcks the story is always told in the Bad "white man" and "good poor black man" pattern. A bit unfair isn't it?

Both Europeans and Africans participated in the slave trade. They are both guilty.

Whether they were Europeans or African, it does not matter. They were still responsible for the rape, torture, kidnap, enslavement, and murder of millions of innocent families.

The slave trade will stand as the one of the most shameful events in human history. It was a tragedy, a blood bath, and a true holocaust. It will never be forgotten.

Perhaps that is because when you open up a history book it tends to contain mostly the history of the dominant culture; white America. So is subject to far more scrutiny. Should white people feel more ashamed for what happened 150 years ago than black people should for what goes on in Africa right now?

First, there were plenty of direct slave abductions. Second, the reason people were attacking and abducting their neighbors (to the large degree they did in the slave trade) was due to the huge demand for slave labor in the New World. Its not like they just had a bunch of excess slaves sitting around and some euros showed up. "Oh you wanna buy these guys? aaah, ok". They were kidnapped especially for the slave trade. Demand - supply. It would be like saying that the decline in beaver in N Am was caused exclusively by the native americans (when it was in fact due to a huge extractive demand fro europe).

third, I suggest you look at the history of slaving in Africa. Many of the tribal and cheifdom-level societies had slaves, yes thats certainly true. But what was a slave in Africa? You were granted access to communally held lands based on the # of dependents in your household (not a nuc family). Having more wives, kids or slaves meant more land for cattle or farming and more prestige. Its a very different system.


So, were the native american slaves (first source of slaves were raided native communities - for about 150 years) also their fault?
