chicken and kool aid. in phx theres a spot called lollos chicken and waffles. OH LAWWWWD. sh!t is ridiculously good (and expensive) but they have real chicken and some bomb waffles and the kool aid is served in glass jars (they containt about a barrel of sugar). you can only eat it about once every 3 months unless you want to die. i've done 3 days straight and i had chest pains for a while.
mexican is ridiculous also. if you live in az, cali or texas you know what i'm talking about. tacos and those mexican hot dog stands are win. enchiladas are also win.

The term soul food became popular in the 1960s. The origins of soul food, however, are much older and can be traced back to Africa. Foods such as rice, sorghum (known by Europeans as "guinea corn"), and okra — all common elements in West African cuisine — were introduced to the Americas as a result of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, and became dietary staples among enslaved Africans. They also comprise an important part of American southern cooking. Many culinary historians believe that in the beginning of the 14th century, around the time of early African exploration, European explorers brought their own food supplies and introduced them into the African diet. Foods such as corn and cassava from the Americas, turnips from Morocco and cabbage from Portugal would play an important part in the history of African American cuisine.[1]
When the European slave trade began in the early 1400s, the diet of newly enslaved Africans changed on the long journeys from their homeland. It was during this time that some of the indigenous crops of Africa began showing up in the Americas.[2]
Enslavers fed their captives as cheaply as possible, often with throwaway foods from the plantation, forcing slaves to make do with the ingredients at hand. In slave households, vegetables were the tops of turnips and beets and dandelions. Soon, slaves were cooking with new types of greens: collards, kale, cress, mustard, and pokeweed. They also developed recipes which used lard; cornmeal; and offal, discarded cuts of meat such as pigs' feet, oxtail, ham hocks, chitterlings (pig small intestines), pig ears, hog jowls, tripe and skin. Cooks added onions, garlic, thyme, and bay leaf to enhance the flavors. Some slaves supplemented their meager diets by maintaining small plots made available to them to grow their own vegetables, and many engaged in subsistence fishing and hunting, which yielded wild game for the table. Foods such as raccoon, squirrel, opossum, turtle, and rabbit were, until the 1950s, very common fare among the still predominantly rural and southern African American population.[3]

black people food is mostly bbq in reality. Also, throw in some chitterlings, pigsfeet, and some hog head cheese and you are set. also, let me say something about common stereotypes:
1. Black people like orange and red kool-aid>purple(whether you believe or not it's true)
2.they like ribs>fried chicken
3.when we get catfish it is like a holiday
4.alot of black people throw up when they eat watermelon
5. we dont eat fried foods as much as we used to.

An episode of Paula Dean will give you an idea of what to expect, as would a peak at the cooking style of Frank Stitt, who combined Low Country and French techniques. Black food, like all food, is location specific, and changes depending on where the people cooked. Coastal Blacks incorporate a lot of fish into their diet. My mother used to make stuff like this:

3 of my favorites. I love kogolgi (sp?)! Bulgogi is the shit though.
And indian food, how can they make chickpeas, lentils and rice in so many varied ways that are all delicious.
My favorite component of spanish cuisine is actually the cured meats and all the awesome cheeses, but its all really good. I loved living there, awesome 3 course menu del dia dishes for ~5-7 bucks (with coffee and a carafe of wine at the right places), a nice lazy afternoon, followed by a small dinner and dancing/drinking all night.

I'm Korean, and I have no idea what you were trying to say there lol.
Bulgogi is pretty good, but the best that I'd recommend is Galbi/Kalbi, however you want to pronounce it.
I love the cured meats as well. Went to this Spanish bar once. They served some of the best tapas I've ever had, can't remember what it was called but we got like this tapas tasting menu where we tried a bunch of different ones that were all delicious.

shit I dont see a problem with it, since that is what they are raised for. Its kind of weird that you would use a carnivore (higher trophic level) as a meat source, but my understanding is that they are actually raised on a mostly vegetal diet.

[QUOTE]As Smart as the Primates
Intelligence research was done with pigs in the 1990s. One of the experiments was to train the pigs to move the cursor on a video screen with their snouts. When the pigs used the cursors again, they were able to distinguish between the scribbles they already knew, and the scribbles they were seeing for the first time. The pigs learned this skill as fast as the chimpanzees.
All species of pig are smarter than dogs, and capable of abstract representation.

well, there is a ecological argument against eating carnivores (and actually diverse omnivores like pigs).
Carnivores take much more energy (in terms of Kcal in/Kcal out) to raise than herbivores, simply due to the trophic level (in other words, you have to raise herbivores, then feed them to carnivores). Now, it sounds like the diet of the food dogs in asia is mostly vegetal, so this probably doesnt matter. Besides, the way we raise cattle for meat not is not energetically efficient anyways (due to the hidden costs of corn agriculture, antibiotics, etc). The comparison holds for actual grass fed cattle though.
also, animals like goats (browsers) and cattle (grazers) take biomass in the ecosystem we cant utilize ourselves (mainly cellulose and other complex carbos we cant digest) and turn them into meat and milk. Pigs on the other hand (which, like us, have a generalized dentition and GI system) compete for many of the same food resources that we can eat directly (things like nuts and tubers or even insects).
It has been suggested that this is the reason (along with potential for bacterial contamination) that the religions of the Levant (marginal environment with low productivity potential) have a taboo on pork.

As to the OP, I like the "peasant" style of most European foods (French, German, Italian, Scandinavian). Using fresh, preferably local ingredients in a simple yet flavorful way will always trump the fancy ass stuff, although there's room for that too.

Vaca frita. Just a thinly sliced skirt steak that's fried and topped with lemon and savory onions. Same type of steak that's used in many cuban sandwiches like the media noche

I guess you haven't traveled a lot through Italy.
Variety is the best part of Italian food...
You can find some excellent local specialties in each and every one of the 100+ provinces, be it pasta, meat, fish, cheese, desserts, whatever

#1: Soul Food: Most people that arent black or from the south have never really had good soul food. Soul food is the kind you really cant get from a restaurant because it takes too much time to make it correctly. But there is no beating a great sweet potatoe pie, fried chicken, cracklin corn bread, sweat potatoes, mac and cheese with wither pinto chips or meringue on the top...
#2: Spanish/Portuguese Food: I lump these together because I frequent the Ironbound of Newark and confuse what restuarant is what...You cant go wrong with Sangria, Paella, Seafood etc...then if your up for a challenge there is always rodizo lol

Best: Indian and Thai for me.
Worst: Japanese and Korean
Chinese, Japanese, and Mexican.
Although since I live In Texas, Tex-Mex is my favorite. You haven't had Mexican food until you've tried Tex-Mex. Best Tacos down here, best everything. Taco Cabana knocks out Taco Bell by far. I mean Taco bell is down right horrible. :oldlol:

So true. But what makes that food great, imo, is that they have been involved with the "slow food" and "local sustainable" model for centuries. Fresh, local ingredients + creative, cultural methods = great food.

Of course the best is Mexican, but here are my other favs:
Indian.... very close to Mexican food. Full of strong flavors and spices.
Thai.... the way they cook and prepare the food is tastier than other Asian food imo, and Thai Iced Tea is great!
Somali..... fell in love with it at first bite.
Korean is also good, although not as good as Thai.
Cuban food is okay, not great. I've had restaurant and homemade, and it was good, but I wasn't craving for more.

Italians got it on lock. Pizza alone is >>>
I'm a real picky eater so I don't **** with a lot of variety. It took a long time before I even tried crab.

we can just basically say all louisiana food is good. creole. cajun. italian. louisiana. everything is good.
I'm going to have to disagree. Food from there will give you the shits unless you're use to it.

Depends on what you're looking for...
If I'm starving and trying to prove out I'll get Mexican. Nothing like crispy, fried, deliciousness. Burritos, chalupas, soft shell tortilla tacos, rice and beans, etc. So good but also very help and likely to cause food coma.
If I'm trying to eat something substantial but also won't kill me I'll do thai (which also happens to be my favorite). Curry dishes ranging from sweet to spicy, lots of wet noodles, very light even when fried, tons of veggies.
Korean food is similar and loaded with a wide array of stir fries and delicious soups.
American chinese food is good (on the east coast) and very greasy. Great hangover food.
I really like eating Middle Eastern food when I'm eating light or pre or post work out. A falafel sandwich or chicken schwarma is very easy to digest and obviously delicious. Hummus is a great snack.
Jews make great food, From their deli cuts to brisket and kugel, can't really go wrong.
Italian and french are both delicious but not easy to find the same quality in the states as you do in Europe. Both very rich and creamy I typically don't digest this food well as much as I enjoy eating it.
Been eating a lot of empinadas lately (pretty sure they are native to south america). Quite delicious and simple. Surprised they aren't more popular in the states.

I tried Ethiopian for the first time a few years ago. Man, good stuff. Fresh and spicy as hell. Loved it.

I suppose i'm going to have to get on down to Cali if Tex-Mex was challenged.
