From what European media is saying there is going to be a new international league formed in Europe called the Mediterranean Basketball Association, abbreviated as MBA. The league would be partnered with the Euroleague.
The league will be formatted as a national domestic league with a regular season where each club plays each other home and away and with a playoffs where the rounds are played as series. So setup like the NBA instead of the Euroleague.
The league will be designed to surpass the Spanish League and to be a rival to the NBA.
Clubs would include:
Montepaschi Siena
Lottomatica Roma
Armani Milano
Benetton Treviso
Olympiacos Piraeus
Panathinaikos Athens
Aris Thessaloniki
Maroussi
Efes Pilsen
Fenerbache Ulker
Galatasaray
Besiktas
Partizan Belgrade
Hemofarm
Maccabi Tel Aviv
Hapoel Jerusalem
Bulgarian League Champions
Cypriot League Champions

Since there's no country in the Mediterranean, why would they give the league an English name?
Here's a source btw before people bash you for not posting one:

At this point I think Lakas doesn't post the link on purpose, even if he has one. Just for trolling purposes.
nice more chocies for those who dont make the nba :applause:it will just dilute the already diluted other euro basketball teams... they need less teams over there not a new league with more teams taking talent away from the established teams already struggling to keep up with the better clubs

This league would be comprised of the richest clubs from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Israel, Cyprus, and Bulgaria. These clubs already exist.
Among them are several of the richest clubs in Europe.

And none of those participating speaks English. I just find it remarkable.
What are you talking about? Why does the Euroleague have an English name then? Explain that.....
The Euroleague is owned and operated by the Spanish League with a partnership from the French League. The Euroleague is based in and has its headquarters in Spain.
The Euroleague does not have any British clubs. So then why does the Euroleague have an English name and an English website?
Why does the United League which is based in Russia have an English name and an English website?
Why does the Adriatic League which is based in Serbia have an English name and an English website?
Once again, you prove that you are not European.
The league will be designed to surpass the Spanish League and to be a rival to the NBA.

I don't know why they have those sites in English. It's just really funny to me. Russian league is in Russian. They have the option to go to an English version...which is hilarious since you can hardly make up what they're trying to say. The Dutch league is in Dutch. Belgian league? French and Flemish.
And I'm getting annoyed by you telling me I'm not from Europe. Here.

If it comes to fruition, and hopefully it will, it would be great for the game.
The VTB league was successful this year and this would certainly be stronger.
Hemofarm and Partizan probably wouldn't be in it since they already compete in the NLB (Adriatic league).

Adriatic league is legally based in Ljubljana, Slovenia not Serbia. The league’s owner is company named SIDRO whose owners are clubs competing in Adriatic league (Olimpia, Cibona, Bosna...)
If there is any truth in that article I doubt that Serbian clubs would compete in it. They already have Adriatic league, one of the best leagues in Europe.
Partizan is definitely behind the MBA league and wants to join it as soon as it starts.
AEK is also interested in joining the league and investing in it. The rumor is that they will be sold and the new owners (who are extremely wealthy) will help in making the new league also.
Why would this be a rival to the NBA? Americans historically don't like foreign leagues, the only one that gets any play comparable to the local league is the EPL ratings adn that league is leagues beyond the MSL whereas this would be nowhere near NBA quality.
that makes zero sesne.

He means rival worldwide I guess. As in two big leagues trying to steal fans from the other.

I saw the proposal and it's a big deal if it happens. These teams are of major markets that can pay more than the sacramento's, utah's, portland's, even the seattle's of the nba. At one point these teams having more resources available is going to make the euroleague bigger, it's only a matter of time. NBA is a mess, owners were borrowing to pay salaries and could lose less money in a walk-out
