Apparently the children were cancer patients and children from homeless shelters that were put out on the street.
The local churches rushed to their aid with buses and food as Lebron screamed profanities at the priests and nuns.

Amico doesn't say it's true, he's just reporting it and says he's looking in to it. Could be nothing, could have legs. For all we know LeBron reserved the gym and a bunch of volleyball camp kids went in because they thought it wasn't being used.
As for the media piling on. How it works generally is that if something happens once and it's reported as an isolated incident. Media moves on. Twice and they raise their eyebrows and consider it a coincidence. But they start paying attention. Three times and it goes to full blown epidemic and every story even slightly similar get's pushed to the top.
LeBron made the mistake of not putting his head down after the hand shake and dunk gate incidents. In fact he put his head on a platter for them in a 1 hour special. He needs to hire an image specialist to follow him around and tell him what's ok and not ok, because he obviously has no idea at this point. Then maybe the media will run out of fuel and the fire will die down, and winning games will douse it completely.

James mechanically drained his three pointers and then paused briefly as a ballboy went to retrieve a rare miss. James wheeled, removing both his headphones instantly, clearly flummoxed that a stranger had grasped his buttocks. Upon seeing the culprit, who eyed the player with what can only be described as awe, James looked incredulous and indignant. With no other recourse available, James stopped his shooting routine, striding defiantly towards a group of his teammates that were standing near half court. A string of profanities flew from his mouth as he relayed what had just happened to his teammates, who hadn't seen it. To a man, they were equally shocked to hear of the occurrence. James continued his chest-puffing diatribe, occasionally looking back at the group of teenagers. The young men were pretending to gaze out in a different direction, pretending to be invisible. While James's teammates assured him that the kid surely didn't mean any harm and that he was probably just wishing the player well, James continued to shake his head, failing to comprehend that someone he didn't know, someone outside his circle, someone so clearly unimportant, would have the gall to touch him. Him.
Eventually, the kids slunk away. James finally popped his headphones back in and continued his warm-up routine. He either didn't notice -- or pretended not to notice -- two young writers laughing hysterically nearby.

I understand it was pat(the way the writer described it made it seems really weird) but seriously, you just shouldn't do that to people you dont know. I know I wouldn't do that if I saw lebron draining three's.
