I trust Malone to take the game winning shot, Malone trusts Malone to take the last shot.. Garnett looks to pass.. thats what I use to distinguish between these two. Malone but it's close

Better defender
Just as good if not better passer
At least equal offensively
Better off the dribble

How old are you? Cause your assumption about Malone is totally off. I would take Malone mainly cause his durability/longevity makes this a no-contest IMO, but acting like he was this super-clutch player couldn't be further from the truth.

DirtBag

He's not super clutch but he wasnt afraid to take the last shot something I believe Garnett has always been afraid of.

if just talk about how good they are and neglect career, i'd choose Malone, no doubt.

Malone is bigger stronger and faster, a better scorer, a much better foul-shot creator, better in paint, better outside shooter, better one-on-one defender.

KG is a better help-defender and shot blocker.

Karl Malone has a notorious reputation for not being able to step up in the clutch, probably even moreso then KG. And he usually was not taking the last shots, it was Stockton.

King James... better than both of these scrubs combined.

DirtBag

I know that they had shooters that were taking more game final shots at the end of the games than Malone another being Horancek... but if I were picking between the two (malone and garnett) having seen both them play I am more comfortable with Malone in the clutch than KG. KG for the better part of his career was good through 3 and gone in the 4th. I'd take Malone because I don't have the option of say a Bird or Jordan.. I'm not saying Malone is the end all be all but I'd say he's above Garnett. Each have their strengths as mentioned above by other posters but I'd take Malone because I'd trust him more..

Well all I'm saying they are both very weak in the clutch for superstar standards so putting alot weight on that is kind of useless IMO no offense.

Malone, by a average margin.

DirtBag

fair enough.. Malone may have not been clutch but he'd take the last shot, would he make it or would he throw up a brick perhaps even make a bone head play but Garnett would be out of the equation all together looking to pass more often then not in the 4th. Not saying in just the last 3-24 seconds of a game. If I'm picking I want the guy who is willing to take the ball.

I wouldnt want either player taking that shot so this line of thought in comparison to who is better seems irrelevant to me. If im trying to win a championship Id need a better finisher than either player.

Are you kidding? Malone should have changed his name to Choky McChoke. Garnett was equally terrible in the clutch.

Id rather build around a dominant defender than a guy who is famous for scoring until the clutch.

Malone was far superior to KG on offense, and was a great defender too. He would snap KG in half with one of his patented elbows.

The only power forwards that have a case over Malone are Duncan and Barkley. Other than those two, Malone is better than everyone else.

As much as I despised him, Malone was just the better player, and all the evidence points to this.
I wouldn't trust either one of the two in the final seconds especially Malone with his critical missed free throws against the Sonics in Game 7 of the 1996 WCF and Game 1 against the Bulls in 1997 NBA Finals.

i mean, if i already have Pierce and Ray Allen on my team then having Malone wont do that much for my team other than more scoring and a bit more rebounding. KG shaped the Celtics into one of the best defensive team of the decade and help guys like Perkins and Big Baby upgrade their game a bit.

i'm a lil drunk so escuse my grammar right now

Barkley was better period. Its not primes vs primes. Barkley`s injuries was the thing that prevented him to maintain himself at a good-great level like of that Malone was capable off.

Malone was better than Garnett. He actually developed a Post Game

totally agree. even though i feel like malone is now getting a little under rated....KG' defensive impact goes way too unappreciated on here. he's probably one of the ten best two way players of all time. he could dominate a game on both ends in his prime. not more than a handful of players in nba history good anchor a great defense and give you 30 and 15 at times in the playoffs.

i have duncan as the best pf of all time followed a lot closer by KG than most. i think its clearly duncan as the best....but KG was better than most give him credit for imo.

my rankings:

1. duncan
2. kg
3. malone
4. barkley
