Should the Denver Nuggets elect to trade Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks are believed to be the All-Star forward's first choice for a new home. But they are not his only option.

Multiple league sources familiar with his situation told SI.com that Anthony would also be open to signing a long-term deal with Houston or New Jersey should either of those teams offer the Nuggets an acceptable trade package.

Getting Anthony, 26, to agree to an extension is the key to any deal as he can become a free agent after the 2010-11 season. Denver has offered Anthony a three-year, $65 million extension, but he has balked at signing it and is reportedly looking for a way out. Because acquiring Anthony would require a substantial offer, it is highly unlikely any team would risk making a trade without having Anthony agree to a simultaneous extension.

While resolving Anthony's situation is a priority in Denver, there is no urgency to make a deal quickly. The Denver Post reported in June that the Nuggets were prepared to trade Anthony rather than watch him opt out of his contract next summer. However, the Nuggets are without a general manager after they let go of top basketball executives Mark Warkentien and Rex Chapman.

I see it as a battle to give up more.
Nets or knicks... AHHHH

Knicks have Gallo, Curry, Chandler, Douglas
Nets have Murphy(december), Williams, James, Favors(unlikely), Harris, a shitload of picks

Who knows? I dont see Houston getting him... unless they give a huge expirer(yao?)... Why Help the already stacked West?

I see it as a rumor floated by Denver to try to make teams up their offers simply because the teams in the rumor are totally random except for the fact they can give up multiple assets. id believe it mroe if it was only nets.

This is so stupid.

Houston? Really? Why would he want to leave Denver to go to Houston? Doesn't make any sense. I mean, Houston is MY team. That's my favorite team, but come on. He's better off in Denver. Short and long term, most likely. At best, for Houston, a lateral move (remains to be seen).

He wants to go to the ****ing Knicks. All these other teams being rumored are just smokescreen. At some point, people are going to have to use common sense. Too many factors pushing him towards the Knicks.

Nets have the best assets to get a Melo deal done.

IMO TWill & Favors has more value than what we can offer. I just have a hard time believing that they would actually do it.

Mannix is on the radio now bashing everything about the Knicks. His agenda (on this radio appearance) is to bash Walsh, bash the Knicks, bash everyone. Take that as you will about this rumor...

I also didn't realize it was a bump and questioned why he would want Nets. They aren't much different from the Knicks.

Knicks and Nets (Deron) blockbuster trades were failures. Knicks did better, Melo had 2 great years but I'm sure they were hoping for more.
