View Full Version : Road rage is a terrible thing when it gets you.

It's like a parasite that engulfs your psyche and makes you do things you would never normally do.
I'll make the story short, but on my way home tonight as I was about to get off the highway, I'm in the far right lane when an SUV starts floating towards me. No problem, It's dark, It's raining, he probably lost track of the lane for a split second. It didn't bother me, it happens to everyone. All I did was speed up and go past him as he goes into the lane, just missing me.
So what does he do? Starts flickering his high-beams at me. Really? You f*cking piece of shit, really? You almost cause a serious accident because of your inability to control your vehicle and you flash ME!?
I became so enraged. I slammed on my brakes down to about 40 [from 75] forcing him to do the same. We both get off the exit, all the while he's continuing to flick his highs at me. I was going to leave it at that. I thought me trying to kill him was sufficient enough. Nope. He's still flicking his lights at me, continuously.
At that point, my heart is racing and I can feel the adrenalin pumping through my body as my breathing gets louder and louder. When I get really angry, my mouth gets really dry, and it was like Hawker's crotch on a Friday night. A baron desert waste-land.
We're at the light, him behind me, still flicking his lights and now he starts beeping at me.
I grabbed the crowbar I keep in the back [don't ask why, it doesn't matter], got out of my car and ran at him like a f*cking wild-beast.
I don't really know what I was going to do. I just know that his car was going to get ****ed up. He slams on the gas and jumps the divider into oncoming traffic and blows the red light. I'm flung the crowbar into the back of his car and connected. *ding* He didn't stop. And I'm glad he didn't, because I honestly don't think I had control of myself at that point. I'm pretty sure I was acting on pure rage and adrenaline.
I stood there in the pouring rain for about 3 seconds before I realized that I was standing outside of my car in the rain in front of about another 10 cars. My brain snapped back on like a light and I jump back in my car and take my left. Go get some Wendy's and now I'm home.
And the weird part is, I drive a truck for a living. Shit like that doesn't bother me when I'm working, but the second I get in my car on the way home, I start getting angry at the littlest shit. I need to calm the f*ck down when I drive.
I never saw the guy's. I don't even know if it was a guy. Shit, it could've been a family in there. I feel like an idiot.
Just, I couldn't let that guy get away with flicking his highs at me. . . for almost killing me.

What I learned from this thread:
-One of pete's alts was GP20
-OMS was driving the SUV
-Hawker is the butt of a lot of jokes around here.:oldlol:
I've never been that mad(or prepared) before while driving. Usually the people who drift into my lane aren't that idiotic too follow me around while using their high beams.

I was in the passenger seat and my gf at the time was driving. She was a hot headed redhead and definitely had a quick temper. She was in the right lane and someone was trying to pass her on the left so they could get in the right lane and turn right. there was plenty of room behind us but this girl just had to get in front of us.
My gf wasn't having it so the girl cut her off, thinking she would stop. Nope. my GF never touched the brake and actually accelerated, plowing into the other car which was now sideways in front of our car. They finally got out after we pushed them awhile for and they were literally fighting before i even got my own door open. :oldlol:
Fortuntely nobody got hurt but it was a wild scene.

Yeah, I'm against women driving.
I'm convinced it was a woman now.
I make small bets with myself now when I'm driving. If I see someone do something stupid, 98% of the time It's a woman.
Yes, It's incredibly sexist, but It's true. Completely true. Women are f*cking oblivious to everyone else. They should NOT be allowed to drive. And if they are, they should be tested every single year.

Didn't read OP after I realized the thread title said "Road Rage" and not "Roid Rage"...
What does that say about me as a person?
:hammerhead:
I suffer from road rage pretty frequently. The worst is when you have a guy doing 20 below the limit on a one lane road that goes for hours. It's torture.
This one time I was about to make a right turn and I was in the right lane. As the turn's coming up, this guy in the lane to the left of me tries to come in my lane and starts drifting into my lane. He expects me to brake for him so he can go in front of me. Fu.ck that, he can go behind me. So he gets closer and closer and almost hits me, so I'm honking constantly while he's doing this and he finally goes behind me and pulls up next to me giving me the finger at the next light after the turn.
Then he starts cutting me off on purpose every time I try to make a lane change. I was ready to jump out of my car and kill him. Finally I get around him and I see a student driver coming up in the lane next to me. So of course I drive parallel to the student driver for the rest of the time at a snail's pace trapping the bastard behind me :lol.

She was going to the airport to pick up her son. At that point i didn't realize just how bad a driver she was but i found out quick. She was driving way to fast, weaving in and out of traffic like she was in NASCAR. I wouldn't go on long drives with her after that.

The girl who cut them off is almost always wrong in this case. It happened to my mom on the I-20/285 interchange on the west side. This guy apparently wanted to get on the on ramp to the 285 so bad that he forced his way in there and didn't her any space/time to brake. He has to pay damages/lost wages/ pain and suffering and all that good stuff too.

I've had my share of close calls and I've been on both ends of bad decisions behind the wheel (I'm talking about the non-alcoholic ones). But the thing that always escalates a situation is how someone's inability to let it go.
If a car cuts me off or somehow 'wrongs' me, I've never tailed closely behind or struck up my high beams. I've also been lucky enough where no one's continuously annoyed me after a situation. You never know who the hell is in the other car, it could be some psycho with a gun.
To the OP, I doubt it was a woman in the other car just because I can't imagine a woman following your car looking for trouble. It was probably some teenager who's bark is obviously louder than his bite.

The problem with people nowadays is that everyone thinks they own the road. I don't know where you guys learned to drive, but I was taught to let go of the gas whenever someone signaled to make a lane change be it passing on the right or the left.
If you get cut off, big deal, there are more important things in the world to attend to. Responding to an idiot makes you no better of a driver and/or person.

The person wasn't using the directional and was going 20 mph slower than me. Re-read the OP with this new information. The entire process of me passing then took less than a second. That's how insignificant the situation could've been.
And if anyone was wondering, yes, I did look for my crowbar for a second or two and couldn't find it.

While I dont recommend road rage, sometimes people can be infuriating. I drive about 30miles several times a week on a crowded autobahn, most of the time during rush hour. They have been enlarging the road for several years now, going from 3 lanes per side to 4. It will still take some years to get it finished, so I understand there will be quite so traffic for years to come.
But there are traffic jams that dont need to happen, stoppages because people dont understand how to cooperate and such. Thes leave lanes too early and too often. They cut off others just to get on a faster lane. And by doin all that, they slow everything down. If everyone followed what they are being taught in driving school. everything would go a lot smoother.
That being said, I cannot stand people that drive on the left or the middle lane slowly as well. If you are not overtaking somebody else, get the **** off that lane and get to the right one. Dont make me stop because your think that I should not be going that fast. Dont be ignorant. Just move and get the **** out of my way.

If she hit the side of her car then it's the other cars fault, but if it managed to cut all the way in and you hit it from behind, then it's your fault.
To me anyway it's an asshole move to actually speed up if somebody's cuttin in front of you, why would you do that. If they don't cut you so bad they make you break really hard, then wtf.

Yesterday on the way to work I'm at a light with a pick up in front of me. The light turns green and the pick up doesn't move. I give him a few seconds and then I tap the horn. Not a loud honk, just a tap to say "hey man the light is green." The dude gets all pissed and flips me the bird out the driver's window. I'm like "wtf? I've been caught sleeping at a light before, no big deal." I should have just let it go but instead I switch lanes, speed ahead and then cut him off and slow down to a snail's pace. Every time he tried to pass I'd cut him off again. This went on for about a mile until I turned off on my exit. You could see the blood boiling in the dude's face.
In retrospect it was a stupid move. What if he had a gun? Pretty dumb thing to die over.

Yeah it's like they feel they own the left lane. Down here in the south it's a common occurrence that when you try and pass them on the right they get pissed and speed up.
And how hard of a concept is "keep right except to pass"? Don't these idiots realize how dangerous it is to force the cars behind them to accelerate into slower traffic?

You guys are taking the road rage thing way too seriously. Have control over your emotions and actions. It's what makes a man.
Needless to say, I don't blame you. Usually I just vent my road rage by yelling or cursing. It's a lot safer that way, with my windows shut and radio blasting of course. Don't want to seem to psychotic, if you can understand.
I've always been a safe driver for some reason. Usually leave room in front of cars, let cars that want to cut me off ahead of me. It's not worth dying over. When I first started driving, I presume all of us were a bit speed crazy and dumb. Learned from those experiences.

You do that in my town and you get shot, period. Happens all the time, i.e. "road rage shooting"

Only ever had one instance of road rage and it was pretty bad. ****ed up the guys car pretty good and caused a scene going down the freeway.
To be fair, this same guy had intentionally been ****ing with me for three days straight leaving work and getting onto the highway before shit escalated. First two days was the usual cutting off and driving like an asshole trying to get me to race him. Third day he decides to troll me and continually slow down, cut me off, hit his brakes and then speed up and repeat...for absolutely no reason.
About three miles down the highway of this and I lost it, dropped a gear in my car (modified LS2) and starting reeling past him on the shoulder while he tried to keep me from getting in the lane in front of him. As I passed by I threw a light pole nut directly at his windshield at cracked it length-wise, then proceeded to get in front of him and not allow him to pass by until I got off the freeway. He kept tailing me the whole way and pulled up next to me at the stop, I hopped out of the car with a 2 ft. stick of 700MCM electrical wire and started taunting him to either drive off or gtfo out the car and do something about it
I don't think the reality of the situation hit until I was 10 feet away from my car parked on a loaded freeway off-ramp trying to get some guy out of his car so I can beat the shit out of him. Dude sped off and it was probably a good thing, because I was not thinking clearly through that whole set of events.

Only ever had one instance of road rage and it was pretty bad. ****ed up the guys car pretty good and caused a scene going down the freeway.
To be fair, this same guy had intentionally been ****ing with me for three days straight leaving work and getting onto the highway before shit escalated. I do electrical work and had been working on light poles that day. Also why my beating stick was a big ass piece of cable.
This was back in 2008 though. Don't carry that type of shit in the car anymore :lol

How was the same guy driving on the highway at the exact time you were leaving work for a few days in a row? Did this guy work at the same place you did?

My guess is that we worked in the same area and got off work at the same time since it was always between work and the freeway (2 miles) that I kept seeing him. I didn't really put much thought into it, just noticed it was the same modified G35 cutting others/myself off every day. He had made enough of a scene the first two days for me to even recognize the same car, and the third day decided he'd stay around my car and troll me for two miles before I snapped.
