I only really started posting here after I was banned at a guitar forum. I was reading about something basketball-related on prosportsdaily.com and was linked to Inside Hoops.
I started posting at ISH in about 2002 or 2003 on the old EZ Board. I never thought I'd be one of those guys with a massive post count when I first started. I was being banned and perma-banned from multiple accounts too often to be able to a reach a gaudy number like 10,000. :lol
I've enjoyed chatting with a variety of different people over the years. There have been so many posters here I have really enjoyed, and some I even miss.
A shout out to just a few of them: EWillems, kwajo, Miles Berg, hateraid, Silent Mav, adamcz, hotsizzle, B-Low, sakf, LakerRaider, Orealius, AIR SETH, reppy, AKADS, cyco127, i seen hippos, JtotheIzzo, boozehound, RufusPaul, Randy, geeWiz15, GoRapz (lol), Tips4 (lol) and a host of others. If I forgot you, sorry.
I posted the other day in my Roster Analysis thread that I would quit after my 10,000 post and I plan on sticking by it. I have been posting here way too much as of late. I have had essays, assignments and a bunch of other stuff I should be doing instead (and I should probably start doing my job! haha!). This place is an addiction for me, and I'm afraid it's slightly unhealthy. Spending my time arguing on here is not a good way to spend my time. I'd rather find something slightly more positive to do.
I'll still be lurking here reading people's threads occasionally, and I'll still post occasionally at RealGM (they don't allow BS there). Anyway, I don't want to make this into a thread about hating on ISH, I've had a great time posting here over the years. Jeff is a really nice guy and he has created a nice loose environment for basketball fans to talk trash in.
Some quick ISH personal favorites over the years:
-Making an account called CED, pretending to be a mod and convincing hawkfan to stop posting his trade scenarios. It worked for awhile until I was busted.
-Joining the Secret Police, then changing the password and posting a bunch of crap to get the Secret Police banned.
-Making fun of Heilige in the "Did you get my PM?" thread. (I wish all of those pics still existed)
-GoRapz's threads before he grew up.
-lazanya
-Shimmy thread
-Handome
-Threads where someone gets busted with multiple accounts
-Chachi
-And all the threads were guys ask for advice about girls.
When I first started on here, I was a promising basketball player in New Zealand. I went through a period of depression and gave up basketball. I have lied about why I haven't played. I did snap my ACL and MCL, but that was a few years after I was relevant. I gave up long before then. I've posted a bunch of different stuff here, from depression after breaking up from my girlfriend (on EZ Board), to posting pictures of my knee, pre and post operation. I have been a diehard Celtic fan my whole basketball life, and had the lucky experience of being able to share the 2008 championship on ISH with all the great Celtic fans here. Thanks guys.
See addicted to ISH, I can't write stuff without bringing it up.
Things in life I cannot do without:
-Living by the beach. I love the sea air. I love the smell of being by the beach. I swim and body-board all year round. Rain, snow or shine. I feel like a small part of myself has died by living away from the beach.
-Travel. I love experiences new cultures and meeting people from different walks of life.
-Cheese. I can't get enough of it. I actually bonded with my GF when we met over Gruyure cheese. We ate it on the beach watching a drum circle on our first date at sunset on Boracay Island, Philippines.
-For a long time I couldn't live without a basketball. I dribbled it to school everyday. I used to dribble it down the street and practice reading shop signs with my peripheral vision. I remember reading that Magic Johnson or John Stockton use to do that. I forget who. I spent 6 hours everyday as a teenager on the courts at my old primary (elementary) school. I predominantly played Samoan, and Maori guys that were 10 years older than me. I attribute these guys for my basketball development.
-Billy Madison. It's is the funniest film ever. If you don't crack a smile once, there's something wrong with you.
-Pearl Jam. The best band, ever.
-Cooking. It's therapeutic and helps me unwind after a long day. I often lose my temper baking though, so I leave that to the GF.
Basketball:
It has become watered down over the last few years. There are guys hanging around in the league now that are terrible players. A lot of this has to do with politics and the NBA blackballing certain players, as well as keeping certain guys on the roster for future front office positions (looking at guys like Scalabrine).
Currently, there are a whole list of guys not in the NBA, or any professional league for that matter that could step in and contribute in the NBA. Rashad McCants, Dejuan Wagner, and Allen Iverson are just 3 examples of guys that have the ability to play in the league. The NBA just doesn't want them. I think it's more entertaining having these guys around.
The NBA bothers me. ESPN and advertisers have had too much input into the NBA as it is today. It has become a wimpy league where guys like Dwyane Wade can complain their way to championship rings.
Last season I watched a lot of games, but found myself really uninterested in most of the games until it came playoff time. I think I'll be a casual viewer now and just immerse my =self in the playoffs wen they come about.
Lastly, Scottie Pippen should be a coach somewhere. He's a well spoken, nice guy with a lot of knowledge.
Life:
Think positively. Have realistic goals. Work towards them. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't accomplish them. Do kind things for people and share POSITIVE experiences.
If I could change anything in my life, it would be just to stop caring so much what other people think. I might have achieved even more than what I have now. Maybe I would have started music earlier and I would have talked to someone about depression instead of giving up basketball. I think this applies to everyone. Stop caring what others think, you can't control it. You're the most important person there is.
