Court is only 94 feet long....
Speed and Quick are relatively the same thing in a small space but quick would be faster.:lol

Depends on the definition of fast. Lateral speed with the ball I'd say AI or Isiah. Downcourt speed I'm thinking Lebron James.

With the ball on fast break

Barkley
Dr J
Jordan (one of the quickest too)
Drexler
Lebron

Without the ball

Karl Malone

Iverson was one of the quickest but in terms of fast = potent too not so much

Another guy I remember who had ridiculous downcourt speed with the ball was Eddie Jones. Chucky Atkins was pretty fast in his prime too.

Look when they are running they are more or less at the same spot on the floor. Its not indicative of Lebron being able to run faster but more indicative of his freakish natural leaping ability. Not to say he isn't faster than him but im a Rondo homer and would really love it if he was the fastest.

If you were going for quickness, I'd say Ty Lawson. That dude is like a squirrel on crack.

If you were going for the fastest player, as in top speed, its pretty obvious... its Lebron. Nobody covers more ground in such a short amount of time. There is a reason he can sprint down anybody, whenever he wish...

And one of the reasons is for example Lebrons 40-yard-dash time... it was measured 4.3-4.4 seconds at the combine, thats when he was 17-18, he probably is a bit faster now... the world record is 4.24 seconds.... think about that... The fastest widerecievers like Reggie Bush, Justin Gaitlin ran also 4.3 seconds.... The best widereciever today (Larry Fitzgerald) ran 4.5 seconds.... Steve Smith (what many say was the fastest) ran 4.4 seconds...... just something to think about... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40-yard_dash

Its extremly doubtful anybody in the NBA is faster than that.... as also evident in many videos of Lebrons in Youtube for example:

Just curious, and not questioning you, but do you have a link which confirms Lebron running a 4.3? That is Reggie Bush fast. BTW, and take it for whatever it is worth, but Wilt, himself, said he ran a 4.4. There are links that claim he ran a 10.9 100 yard dash in high school, but that is hard to believe, since he was on KU's 4x100 relay team, which included Ernie Shelby, who ran a 9.3. Wilt claims that Shelby was the only guy that could beat him. He also claims that he beat Jim Brown in a race at a party, in which there were supposedly some witnesses. I believe Brown was clocked at around 9.6 in the 100 yard dash.

kobes a better ball handler, play maker, passer, mid range shooter, three point shooter, off hand,

only thing jordan does slightly better is dunk and defend

and its not like hes even that much worse at either, hes a dunk champion and 8 time 1st team all defense

all jordan has on kobe is accomplishments. ( which are important dont get me wrong )

kobe might not have a better career. but hes mastered the game unlike jordan

jordan sucked at shooting for most of his career.

End to end speed, I'm thinking of guys like Jordan, Lebron, Drexler, Sprewell, and Iverson. In the halfcourt, however, there's never been anyone who covered ground faster than Jordan - he could get from point A to point B faster than anyone else in history.

In terms of explosiveness (i.e., acceleration from a standstill or while changing speeds), for the sub-6'3" guys you have guys like Tony Parker, Marbury, Harris, and Kevin Johnson. Above 6'3" there's Jordan and then there's everyone else (Wade, David Thompson (believe it or not) etc.

There are plenty of players that are better at certain aspects of the game than Jordan.

Barkley was a better rebounder, Stockton was a better passer/playmaker, Lebron is a better passer/finisher.

Kobe like Jordan is a player who does pretty much everything well. Unfortunately for Kobe that makes for an easy comparison to Jordan since their styles match up so perfectly.

This is a GREAT post! You have acknowledged that Kobe was a skilled player, and that Jordan was slightly better. I have no problem with a post like that.

Overall, MJ was a better player. Do we ALL have to say something like, "MJ was CLEARLY better, and it is NOT CLOSE?" Or can we be a little more realistic, and say that, MJ was a slightly better player. Most here have Kobe ranked in the top-10 all-time, so is it a slap in the face of MJ to claim that he is SLIGHTLY better than Kobe?

Look, I believe Russell to have been SLIGHTLY better than Wilt. I also believe Magic to have had a SLIGHTLY better career than Bird. Shaq and Duncan are SO CLOSE, I can't really decide. My god, we are talking about the greatest players who have EVER played here.

I am a big Kobe fan...but I also a realist. His resume does not match up to MJ's, and barring a miracle, it never will.

The problem is,...most Kobe fans here will argue that Kobe is WAY BETTER than Jordan ever was. And then the Jordan fans fire back that Jordan was WAY BETTER than Kobe ever will be. It just gets ridiculous.

Not only that, but once again...the argument pops in in a topic that involves neither.

ever heard of a troll buddy?

also wtf at people saying Kobe is a better ball handler. MJ could palm the ball from the dribble and even catch the ball mid air with one hand. That right there should be enough to say he is a better ball 'handler' Lol notice the word hand is in there, of which MJ had one of the greatest pair in history.

Forthe idiot(s) (read: griffmoney) who think Jordan doesn't belong in this discussion, some food for thought:

Prime MJ is the fastest point A to point B player in league history in the halfcourt. Dude just ate up space on the court like a blur. Find me video of anyone getting from ~36 feet out to the rim faster than this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZhbHMe3A_s&feature=related#t=5m39s

Just insane point A to point B speed. Watch from right when he starts to cross over to his left. Or how about this next clip, where he goes from 5 feet inside halfcourt to the basket amazingly fast. Watch how quickly he lowers his body and achieves full speed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVUXJ8Q7ehY#t=0m59s

Or here, from the 3-point line to a dunk in the blink of an eye, one dribble and dunk:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVUXJ8Q7ehY#t=1m03s

Or from 38-39 feet out to a dunk in ~2 seconds WHILE executing two changes of direction with the ball and several jukes (which slowed his linear speed down):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMYzaW46a68#t=0m14s

No one has ever covered ground in the halfcourt as fast as Jordan.

Apparently Michael Jordan ran the 40 yard dash in 4.3 seconds in 1983. That is pretty damn fast.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/1999/jordan_retires/archive/831128/index.html

Smith says Jordan is the hardest worker he's ever coached. In high school Jordan hustled so, he was nicknamed The Rabbit. Rabbit, run. When he enrolled at Chapel Hill, Jordan ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. This fall he ran a 4.3. By running and lifting weights he has substantially built up his upper body and gained 12 pounds in two years, most of it in the shoulders.

At the end of the day, when you are as fast as all these players mentioned, your top end speed isn't necessarily important. What is important, is 'economy of motion'. In that regard MJ is just head and shoulders above anyone mentioned here. So he was both extremely quick, and extremely well versed on how to use those quicks. Therefore i am coming to the conclusion, MJ was the most effective player to date to use his speed as a weapon.

The thing is, Jordan was the much better player, and it is not even close. Look at all of the memorable games Jordan has posted in the Finals and compare them to how many times Kobe has shrunken to the pressure.

Jordan, in terms of coming up in the clutch and competitiveness, is the best ever. He would have never let that 2004 Finals team lose to Detroit, much less the 08 team to the Celtics. Jordan prevented entire organizations from getting championships and hall of fame players from ever sniffing a ring (Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Reggie, Ewing). When people say things like "jordan is better at every facet of the game compared to Kobe", it's not that their being absurb or "an old man", it's because it's true.

Once again, Chamberlain was a SPRINTER in college (among his many events.) And, he was invited to a Kansas City Chief tryout in the mid-60's by coach Hank Stram. During that tryout, Chamberlain outraced the Chief's fastest running back, Curtis McClinton. Wilt, himself, said that he was timed at 4.4 in the 40. Not only that, but Chamberlain's coach, Alex Hannum, proclaimed that Wilt was the fastest man in the NBA at the time.

He set the record because nobody else tried that record.... i can 100% gurantee at least 10 players who would run a faster time if given the chanse:

Lebron James
Leandro Barbosa
Derrick Rose
TJ Ford
Aaron Brooks
Nate Robinson
Rajon Rondo
Chris Paul
Monta Ellis
Ty Lawson
Darren Collison

with the ball, young iverson easily.

Right now, would be a tie between nate robinson, aaron brooks.

That demonstrates quickness & ballhandling... not as much speed... but at his prime, 2000 he probably was the fastest though aswell anyways. Today? NO.. not even in discussion for the quickest.

The court is not 100 metres long, much shorter then that and you don't always run straight ahead and you also have to dribble something called a ball.

If Usain bolt and young iverson had to race across the court dribbling. I would take iverson easily.

Nope... because even then Usain Bolt is faster....

But i sure think he could beat them anyways :D

If you were going for quickness, I'd say Ty Lawson. That dude is like a squirrel on crack.
A squirrel on speed or quayloods. When you are driving, crackheads take foorrrrrrrrever to get out your way. And then they get mad when you compare them to heroine addicts.

If you were going for the fastest player, as in top speed, its pretty obvious... its Lebron. Nobody covers more ground in such a short amount of time. There is a reason he can sprint down anybody, whenever he wish...
Yeah, and you can tell by the players reaction that they thought no way in he!! did they think he would catch them. Even Rondo, assumed his speed guaranteed the layup. And then Lebron caught him a second time, ssillly rabbit.

no pun intended

no ones motioned wade really theres a reason he is called the flash. He recorded the same sprint time as drose and ran the agility run faster than john wall didn't dwade win the skills completion like three years in a row or whatever. Best shot blocking guard ever dudes 6'5! Best first step in the NBA there is no one in the NBA that keeps wade in front of them all it takes is one cross over one simple move and he's in the paint finishing above your head. Why do you think refs give him so many calls he's just that fast.

How about leandro barbosa and tony parker? I see them as fast running players.

I wonder if paul pierce is really that slow? he is slow for a 3 and yet he can keep up with guys like lebron james whose also known for their speed in the court.

You understand that the first 40 yards of a 100 meter dash isn't the fastest that they can run right? They don't even get fully upright until like 40 meters in. Their head is down and their stride is different, they aren't fully opened up yet. If they were told to run only a 40 yard dash and go all out, they would obliterate LeBron or any NBA player.

Rose might have better 40 time .. and higher vertical .. watch these guys on the court , you cant tell me Rose is quicker than Wade.

It's pretty obvious that Lebron is the fastest end-to-end player in today's NBA - anyone who says otherwise has an agenda and is deluded as hell. You only need to watch the dude move on the court and see how effortlessly he floats on the court chasing all them layups:bowdown:

Is Devin Harris as fast as people say? I heard he has fantastic lane agility. How would you compare him to Ellis and Rose?
he got that baseline-to-baseline record that time but who knows? barbosa is pretty fast.

kobe holds the record for best three point shooting

12 in a game, 9 in a row except in playoffs or finals where Jordan triumphs him again

jordan holds the record for worst three point shooting

5 for 25 in three point contest

LMAO!!!! Here we go again.....this dumbass posts Mark Jackson, so it means fact(again Rule #36 in the "Book of Kobe" on ISH: only when former players, gm's, coaches say something positive about Kobe, is their word fact, yet if the say something negative, they are haters and don't know anything.

*Also if Coaches/GMs/PLayers and former players, ie Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Craig Hodges, Joe Dumars, Joe Johnson, and others still involved in some capacity in the NBA say Jordan would destroy today, because of rules, this is taken as false advertisement and complete lies*

Discuss.

I'm not sure, but doesn't Barbosa have the fastest time recorded dribbling from one end to the other, I believe I heard that somewhere(watching a game).....as far as 40 times, its irrelevant, because your not dribbling a basketball, Jordan was recorded by Dean Smith as running a 4.3 his soph year, after posting a 4.5 his fresh year, Jordan and Lebron's length helps them cover ground on the court pretty quick, but I don't think any of those two guys are faster than Rose, Barbosa, younger Parker, in a timed dribble from end to end
