Peddlers. It seems like it's at an all time high. It's impossible to go thru a day without coming across at least 3 people begging. In line at Wendy's the other day. Some spotty caucasian lady comes in asking for money for a burger. I told her "What do you want? I'll order and buy it for you." She turns around and walks out. lol
Taxes. Sales tax is 10.25 percent and downtown is 1% more.
All of the parking meters are leased out to private company, so now they are total control of the rates which are thru the roof right now.
Road Construction going on all over the place no matter what.

Overall I really like my city. One thing I dislike is that a lot of the traffic signals are out of sync which can get very frustrating. And something I had listed in another thread, which I am able to avoid except 2-3 days a week.

I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio until I was 19. The two biggest things I disliked was the crime rate and the horrible pollution haze that would be over the city on 90+ degree days. I would say the construction, but after years and years of rebuilding the waterfront down by the Ohio they got the interstate down, Great American Ballpark, Paul Brown Stadium and a Underground Railroad museum.
Currently right now I live in La Crosse, WI. I love the town, sometimes not enough to do here, but I still love it.

-Singapore is a city that is also country, thus you can not get out of the city without a passport.
-Anything fun is either illegal or taxed to the shit, eg. (based on $1SIN = $0.75US)
A pint of beer most places is usually between $15 ($11.20US) - $17 ($12.70US). A mate of mine runs one of, if not the cheapest bar here, where a pint costs $10 ($7.50US).
Cigarettes are $11.80 ($8.80US) for a pack of 20.
To get into the casino, there is a $100 ($75US) cover charge for Singapore citizens and permanent residents (fortunately, I don't fit into either of those categories, but my fiance is a PR).
Death penalty for weed.
-You can't walk down the roads without people trying to hand you flyers or make you a suit or get you to sign up for a new credit card or....
-People only care about money, status and material possessions. Personal success here is based on attaining the finest of the "5 Cs": Career, Car, Credit Card, Condominium and Country Club.
-There is almost no arts scene or culture.
-Everyone only likes whatever is popular, what everyone else likes or what they are told to like. There is no diversity and no subcultures, nobody thinks outside the box.
-Everything is government controlled.
-All the media is run by one company, MediaCorp (which is government owned). They control all TV, radio and Print media as well as the ridiculously high level of censorship, thus we don't actually hear a lot of global news. The front page of the newspaper yesterday was about a dead cat. Surely something else happened...
-Free thinking and freedom of speech is illegal; There is a speakers corner in Chinatown, but there is a list of about 30 topics that you can't touch on. You must submit a speech prior to speaking that has to be approved first and if you stray from that script you can, and most likely will, be arrested. If you want to write a letter to a newspaper to voice an opinion or bring up a topic of interest, you must include your ID card number or passport number.
-If you do anything wrong, even the most menial, trivial shit, there is a large fine or jail time, example: You can ride a bicycle on the sidewalk, but there is a $1000 fine for riding it under a bridge. You have to get off and push it, then you can continue riding it once you have reached the other side.
Some other examples:

:wtf:
Maybe I wrote it in a way that is a little misleading, it's not cut and dry, you need a decent amount, but here are the details of how weed factors into Sinagapore's drug laws:
Drug trafficking
Narcotics laws established by the Misuse of Drugs Act are very strict.
Anyone caught with more than or equal to 15 g (0.5 ounces) of heroin, 28 g (1 ounce) of morphine or 480 g (17 ounces) of cannabis faces mandatory capital punishment, as they are deemed to be trafficking in these substances. The stated quantities are the net weight of the substances after they have been isolated by laboratory analysis. Between 1991 and 2004, 400 people were hanged in Singapore, mostly for drug trafficking, one of the highest per-capita execution rates in the world
The Misuse of Drugs Act is a national drug control law classifying substances into three categories, Classes A, B, and C. Section 44 provides that "The Minister may, by an order published in the Gazette" add, remove, or transfer drugs among the classes. The statute's penal provisions are draconian by most nations' standards, providing for long terms of imprisonment, caning, and capital punishment. The law creates a presumption of trafficking for certain threshold amounts, e.g. 30 grams of cannabis. It also creates a presumption that a person possesses drugs if he possesses the keys to a premises containing the drugs, and that "Any person found in or escaping from any place or premises which is proved or presumed to be used for the purpose of smoking or administering a controlled drug shall, until the contrary is proved, be presumed to have been smoking or administering a controlled drug in that place or premises." Thus, one runs the risk of arrest for drug use by simply being in the company of drug users. The law also allows officers to search premises and individuals, without a search warrant, if he "reasonably suspects that there is to be found a controlled drug or article liable to seizure". Moreover, Section 31 allows officers to demand urinalysis of suspected drug offenders.
Amount of controlled drugs that would qualify as drug trafficking
Section 17 of the Misuse of Drugs Act lists the amount of controlled drugs beyond which, the person who carries them shall be presumed to possess them for the purpose of drug trafficking unless proven otherwise:
Opium: 100 grammes
Morphine: 3 grammes
Diamorphine (Heroin): 2 grammes
Cannabis: 15 grammes
Cannabis mixture: 30 grammes
Cannabis resin: 10 grammes
Cocaine: 3 grammes
Methamphetamine: 25 grammes
10 grammes of any or any combination of the following:
N, α-dimethyl-3,4-(methylenedioxy)phenethylamine (MDMA)
α-methyl-3,4-(methylenedioxy)phenethylamine (MDA)
N-ethyl-α-methyl-3,4-(methylenedioxy)phenethylamine (MDEA)
Unless authorized by the government, the possession, consumption, manufacturing, import, export, or trafficking of these and other controlled drugs in any amount are illegal
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/SingaporeEmbarkationCard.pngThe Singapore embarkation card contains a warning to visitors about the death penalty for drug trafficking. Warning signs can be found at the Johor-Singapore Causeway and other border entries. Singapore Airlines also announces similar warnings to air passengers during flights to the country.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misuse_of_Drugs_Act_(Singapore)
So based on that information, you risk facing the death penalty if you have, or in the company of someone who has 15 grams or more (or if you have the keys to their house :banghead:) and the death penalty is mandetory if you have 480 grams or more.

Boston:
- Summers are too short. Fall and winter have their charms, but it gets old after a day or 2. I could go for 6 months of real summer weather, 85+ degrees.
- Not much of a scene for people older than 25
- Too much of a baseball town. Bball comes first please. LA got this right.
- People are extremely aloof. Very much a "who do you know" type of place, which affects dating, making freinds, etc
- Downtown area is fairly smallish and then its all suburban sprawl for miles
- NYC envy runs thick, in many different areas (sports media, nightlife scene, etc)

Lack of historical perspective. Charlotte was settled in the early 1700s but you would never know it from the architecture. Visitors often rave over how "clean" the downtown is. That's because you can't find a building that was built before 1985. I have nothing against modern buildings but a little bit of historical preservation would have been nice.
In contrast to downtown businesses the center city neighborhoods have done a much better job. My house for instance was built in 1900 and is in a historic district. There are all kinds of restrictions if you want to do any renovations, etc.
The outter suburbs are the definition of sprawl: McMansion subdivisions, ugly strip malls and box stores, horrible traffic.

sliced bread isnt really all that great.
also, in the post you cite from fatal9, I find it hilarious that he complains about no nature while mentioning the huge amount of farming in the province. first, farming has all sorts of native ecosystem components in the margins and edges.
second, that city wouldnt be there if the area wasnt good farmland (best in Can probably). Cities didnt exist without a large agricultural hinterland 100 years ago. Without that farmland, canada is ****ed as a country (in terms of food production).
We have tonnes of farmland in New Zealand, but we have breathtaking backdrops. Ontario is a cluster **** of industrial sites, road works, nasty-ass strip malls, pollution, farms, lakes and highways all on a big flat piece of land. Quite an uninteresting place, really.

Yes, sir. Though I'll say that's the first time I've heard of it referred to as Kalamacreek. Nicely done. I'm just north of Kalamazoo. I don't spend a lot of time in Battle Creek unless I'm driving through it en route to Ann Arbor.

Ha, well, I think I may have the mindset of a 65 year old. I don't really head to the coast to party. I head there to chill and get my mind right. Hope is a quiet place. The downtown, like you said, is real nice, well kept and easy going. And on top of that, I like the beaches, both the Tunnel and the State. In some regards it's the anti-South Haven, and I guess that's what I was looking for. Also, the deep Dutch heritage makes me feel right at home.

Traffic
Shitty drivers
Public transportation often runs late and the system is really nowhere near as expansive as it should be
Dumb douchebag tourists that litter, make a mess, act like they're hot shit, etc
