I was just thinking that we rank the best, so we definitely need to rank the worst.
Just for this play

Michael Ruffin is #1

At least HALF of the 62-63 Warrior roster. Don't take my word for it...look them up.

Ugh, these threads are stupid. They always end up with people making fun of solid but unspectacular players. And almost always, the players picked on are picked on based solely on stats seen on the internet.

Michael Ruffin was a banger. Period. He couldn't score, couldn't pass, couldn't dribble, but he could bang and he played 400+ games in the NBA. That's twice as many as Harold Miner, who had shoe deals after winning a dunk contest and who was nicknamed Baby Jordan coming into the league.

So.... I guess that means we're adding Harold Miner?
So far it's
1-Michael Ruffin
2-Half the 63 Warriors
3-Harold Miner

Mark Madsen and Chris Dudley may not have had skills, (although Madsen could dance)...but those two were far from the worst players of all-time.

I didn't read the list, just posting it to give people ideas.

Quinn & Gill are 2 of the most useless PG's I can remember watching. Not sure how highly they would rank.

Worst NBA player I've ever seen:

Chris Dudley is pretty damn close though. He's really did not have a single skill and ALWAYS had his defensive ability over-rated.

The winner/loser HAS to be
http://www.playitusa.com/foto/rig0302.jpg
Antoine Rig'a'deau

He was literally regarded similar to Jordan overseas, came over here, and IIRC didn't even score a basket in about 9 games, left. I remember Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley being totall assbags going out of their way to embarass him off the dribble.

Guy Rucker/SOUMALIA SOUMAKE
Both were Lakers centers signed during the same time period. Guy just faded into Bolivia, Soumalia actually got suspended for a banned substance.

Rafael Araujo
He was pretty underwhelming overall in college, but seemed like he would translate to the NBA nicely. Incorrect! He did nothing in the league and rumors always followed that he was on Brazillian steriods and failed a test over there.

Luke Jackson
only because on paper, he should be a damn good player and in person, he obviously was. The only knock you would have on him having watched him at Oregon was to say he was an average athlete, then he landed like a 42inch vert, higher than both Andre Iguodala and JR Smith, in the predraft combine and you expected more. But he has been with a few teams, and never fit. I mean he can shoot, dribble, pass, and apparently is a much underrated athlete but he never "put it together."

I mentioned him in another post yesterday. Top 5 pick and I don't even know what he did, if anything. He played in 81 games his rookie season(2002-03). That's pretty much it. Some other players:

-Priest Lauderdale
-Horacio Llamas
-Bo Kimble(best known for being Hank Gathers' Loyola Marymount teammate)

Hey, he was strong! Does that count as a skill?

Please don't post the video of him getting owned by Shaq.

Wait a minute, go ahead, I always hated Dudley.

Listing the worst players is practically impossible. The worst players to ever play in the NBA in most cases didn't play more than 10/20 games over the span of their career and didn't contribute anything to their teams.

You'll end up with guys like Paul Shirley (18 career games for 3 different teams, 0 starts, 1.8PPG on .395FG.)or Ernest Brown (3 career games, 1PPG, .167 FG, 1TOpg, 1FPG).

In this thread I see players who made a couple of rosters, started games, scored over 5PPG for their careers etc. (one even led the league in blocked shots once :facepalm). Nowhere near the worst players ever..

That contract McIlvaine got in '97 was ridiculous.

BTW, Ostertag is nowhere near the worst player ever. He could rebound, block shots and take up space...

This thread is ridiculous, and to prove it, someone listed Greg Kite, who averaged 15 mpg over a 12 year career. How could one of the worst players to ever play in the NBA stick around for 12 years, averaging 15 mpg?

The worst players ever were guys in the 40's and 50's that played only a few games, and then got cut.

Are you serious? Chris Quinn is pretty good when he gets the chance. Decent backup PG. He's nothing special, but to call him useless is just wrong.

"Worst player" is a very subjective idea..............to me the worst player is someone who underwhelmed given their expectations, not some borderline-at-best NBA talent who played 5 game and had low stats.

Greg Ostertag? He might not look like an NBA player but the guy could rebound and block shots. He was also a good runner and quite fast for his althletic ability.

I think my choice for worst NBA player would have to be Yinka Dare

110 career games

Career averages

MPG = 9.1 minutes
PPG = 2.1
RPG = 2.6
FG% = 39%

Those stats from a 7 ft 265lbs Center.

That's a good one. Dare had some hype coming out of college. The Celtics were looking at him or Eric Montross; I thought "take Montross!" because Dare had bust written all over him, and at least Montross, although a prototype big white stiff, looked like he'd be a useful player, which he was.

He also has one of the more bizarre stats in Basketball,

In a four year career he had a total of 4 assists and 96 turnovers.

Which to this day is still the worst assist to turnover ratio in the NBA.
