Who do you got?
Growing up it was always Star Wars > Star Trek. But now that I am older, I appreciate the original Star Trek more than I did (and always kind of liked ST:TNG) and the Star Wars Prequels and recut versions make me like that series less and less. With that said, they are now pretty equal for me but more versions of Star Wars or continued solid outputs of Star Trek movies could change that.

Star Wars although I've never really given Star Trek a chance. Star Trek has a bad rep however of being extremely geeky whether that be justified or not I have no idea.

I always thought it was like comparing apples to oranges.
Star Trek (especially TNG) has better writing than any Star Wars films. This is because Star Trek is a tv series which allows the writers to have more freedom with their universe.
But Star Wars, because it's a movie, has better overall presentation. It's able to show the audience it's universe within the time span of a few hours.

This is tough. I will say though that Star Trek has the longevity on Star Wars, and creative aspect. There have been more movies, more spin-offs, more everything. In overall storyline though and cinematography, I have to give it to Star Wars. Star Wars is like watching a movie within a movie. As far as acting is concerned, it has got to go to Star Trek. I mean c'mon, we're talking Shatner here.
The new Star Trek film and future films has the potential to blow Star Wars out of the water though.

For me, its Star Wars....As ridiculous as some of the movies were....the concept of Jedi Knights, and Sith Lords, are enough to put it over the top.

Im generally not a fan of "prequels" and remakes and such, but they really made a GOOD film with that newest Star Trek.

Also, Darth Vader, Yoda, Darth Sidious, etc...have to be some of the best movie characters of all time.
I will admit, Star Trek has more substance, in terms of their shows/movies, but I can never think of any REAL standouts for me....I mean...Spock? Shattner?
Data, and Captain Picard?

I'm not a Star Wars fanboy, but this pic angers me. Yes, it's cool that they got almost everyone that's alive to be there, but look at where everyone is positioned. Hell, Luke is practically out of the shot and sitting on dirt and dust surely.
Oh and guess what, the most hated character of all-time is smack in the middle.
I wonder if this was done on purpose. Deep inside that fake grin from George, there's malicious laughter going on.

Star Wars easy if you include everything Star Wars.
But Deep Space Nine holds up very well against any sci-fi anything.
Here is another way of me rating it (in order):
Star Wars IV: A New Hope
Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Trek (2009)
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn
Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Trek (original series)
Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek: Nemesis
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek: Generations
Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars: Clone Wars
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Star Wars: Ewok Adventures
The rest I have either not seen or simply don't remember well enough to rank.

i dont get why someone would do that. This is probably a fan made pic? or most likely a joke? I would expect lucas himself to be situated somewhere in the middle along with luke and darth wader. Star Wars for me. More interesting (to me) and easier to get in to for new fans. The old movies are still interesting to watch even now, to people who haven't seen them before (unlike the Star Trek movies released at the time which look very dated in contrast).
I'm not trying to bash Star Trek, I know people love it, it's just not as interesting to me. Not to mention Star Wars video games are fun. ^_^
The only real edge for Star Trek is that it's had series and stuff to watch, but maybe that's what's watered it down in some people's eyes too.
Star Wars is supposed to have a live action series coming out at some point, but Lucas is being a bitch about it. Still in the planning stages.
Star Wars. Star Trek is way too nerdy, even for me. And in general I just prefer the Star Wars lore. Also, I <3 SW: KotOR.

Star Wars because the foundation is soo rich.. the whole idea of Jedi vs sith, light vs dark, good vs evil sets it up for an infinite amount of stories to tell... Star Wars has turned into a whole universe of its own spanning about 5 to 6 thousand years of intergalactic wars and stories..
there is soo much potential in the star wars universe that it actually impressive what they have done

I never "got" Star Wars. I tried several times but could never sit thorugh the movies. It was The Matrix before The Matrix - the good guys weren't likeable, the bad guys didn't seem so bad , and I just kept thinking "who cares if the bad guys win?"
While I agree that Star Trek is geek central, at least the stories had some depth to them. In particular, "The Wrath of Kahn" is a great movie.
Star Trek by default.

Same.
Once you start to think more about Star Wars, you realize how ridiculous a lot of the stuff is. I realize it's fantasy but still, some of the stories told, locations, concepts have zero logic to them other than "they look cool". The force, the Sith, the Jedi "religion", etc all just gets more and more ridiculous when you give it some thought. The crappy prequel trilogy didn't do any favours for this either.
Now I prefer Star Trek which is more rooted in sci-fi rather than fantasy like Star Wars. Its themes are a bit more relevant and it's had some great acting performances throughout some of the TV series.
The original Star Wars trilogy is still the best here in terms of pure entertainment but to be honest, the entire Deep Space 9 series stacks up against anything Star Wars has to offer and exceeds it in depth and characterization. It was an incredible show.

Well of course a whole tv series can bring more depth and character driven story when compared to 8.5 hours of cinema. Deep Space 9 must be well over 100 hours.
Anyway, Star Wars all day every despite the fact that I love The Next Generation and Star Trek (2009) a lot.

It's not.
IMO, DS9 is the absolute best Star Trek has to offer. It kinda meandered for the first season and a half but then it found it's direction and separated itself from TNG by focusing more on religion, politics and war rather than pure exploration. It had some of the best acting and individual episodes of any Star Trek. Commander/Captain Sisko never gets his due but he was a great character.

Star Trek isn't based on anything remotely close to astrophysics that would invoke intelligent thought beyond the occasional time travel episode. If I remember correctly, it's ad-libbed and noted as "techno babble" in the script and they just make it up.

I would have to go with Star Wars based on the strength of the original trilogy (though the retconning Lucas has been pulling out of his ass since he started with the new trilogy really hurts its appeal IMO).
I'll admit Wrath of Kahn is pretty badass and I did really like Deep Space Nine when I was younger.

Again I hate to keep going back to DS9 but it is the best iteration. And they dealt a little more with some heavier stuff like linear time, and time travel, and even had an interesting episode on reality.
But I agree outside of the few episodes in the original and Next Generation not too much was there for that kind of stuff.

Star Wars:
Yoda - Phil (zen master)
Palpatine - Jordan (controlled the media with his fame, his 'greater good' overlooked his toxic personality and methods)
Darth Maul - Pippen (underrated and not talked about enough)
Qui Gon - Duncan (patient, understanding and capable)
Mace Windu - Shaq (Vaapd (fighting style) is like a prime Shaq, purely unstoppable)
Count Dooku - Kobe (Wise, chooses his path, and has a lightsaber fighting style that is old style that requires skill and countless dedication. Is said to be one of the best lightsaber wielders of all time).
Anakin Skywalker - Lebron (The chosen one, seems like he is falling to the darkside)
Grievous - Wade (he has the ability, the stats, the style to be the face of the league, but something (the force) is missing that makes him just a step below the Skywalkers/Palpatines/etc)
Luke Skywalker - Durant (The beacon of hope)

that's just silly and not very well-informed, frankly.
the original trilogy had one superstar movie so legendary and amazing that it spawned various genres and changed the culture like an earthquake-inducing thunderbolt hurled from atop mount olympus. it had another movie that had no chance of equaling the novelty of the first one, yet still advanced the story nicely and was beloved by critics and the public alike. the final film wasn't a critical darling, but did a great feel-good, chest-thumping, joyful wrap-up of the whole arc. that's as solid of a 3/3 as you'll find anywhere.
also, there were a whole bunch of other SW-themed books, games and stuff which advanced the star wars universe and helped make it the beast that it is today.

i guess. personally i don't think there was much to mess up after lucas shit the bed so badly in the prequels.
dasher was basically right if you ask the question this way: how many great movies has george lucas personally directed? only two as far as i know... american graffiti and the original SW. "two" is still better than many directors, but it's nowhere near what the greats accomplished.
the funny thing to me is that the founder of star trek (roddenberry) is in a similar boat. he made one or two quality series and little more worth mentioning. also, what many people still don't understand is that he had an all-star production crew that overall were much more important to star trek than he was himself. that never really changed either, as he tended to be a huge PITA to the people working on the later movies and STTNG.

For me personally it's Star Trek. Yes, the Star Wars universe is actually a little bit more exicting, and home of two beautiful RPG's (Kotor 1 and Kotor 2). I just prefer Star Trek, as most Star Trek episodes are quite philosophical and require a bit of brainwork. It's just more intellectually stimulating. The few Star Trek Series I watched anyway.
