Garnett's on-court trash talk isn't to incite violence, it's to get inside the head of his opponents. The real battlefield is in the game of basketball.

People who try to get physical with Garnett are really losing, not winning.

Isn't that what trash talk is all about? Making the other guy angry thus want to fight you. Of course you don't fight him, that would destroy the whole purpose of trash talk.

KG is smart, if you aggravate the great players, he knows they will use it as motivation thus destroying his team. Always pounce on the weak.

jalen rose breaks it down:

Said Jalen Rose, the former Raptor, on ESPN: “Have I heard worse? Absolutely. Am I a trash talker as a player? Yes I am. And the reason why I’m talking trash to you, is to hurt your feelings, is to upset you, is to get under your skin. ... Everything is fair.”

i don't know where the hell the rest of you had ever played, but this sh!t isn't even news story. i agree with jalen except the everything is fair part. well, almost everything is fair. i can think of many examples where you don't go, but "cancer patient?????" i just don't think that's over the line. that's basically referring to one's looks. it's no different than when some player makes fun of sam cassell's alien face. but you know what sam does? he shuts them up and buries 3's in their faces. that's basketball. someone tries to rile your ass up with words, you just take that as ammo and make yourself even more motivated to beat them in the game. and at the end of the day, there's no greater feeling than beating a guy who's been trash talking you because you owned him. it's like "keep talking, son. then check the scoreboard."

His trash talking works, players do it. Live with it. P*ssies should crawl back into their maginas. I am sure you also appreciate the new "respect for the game" rules. Takes all the intensity out of the game, just like you want it.

Sorry Garnett. Michael Jordan is still the greatest thrash-talker in NBA History.

http://www.loudsportsshorts.com/basketball/jordan/michael_jordan.jpg

"I'll let them stand up and take responsibility for themselves."

"They've got no idea what it's all about. The white guys, they work hard, but they don't have the talent. And the rest of them? Who knows what to expect? They're not good for much of anything."

"We have to do some things. We need to make some changes."

"...I call them 'the Looney Tunes.' Physically, they were the best. Mentally, they weren't even close."

"He's scared. He's got no heart...Nobody told me that. If I had spoken up, he wouldn't have been here."

"I know I can recognize what to do, but I'm not sure they can."

"It's a hell of a lot easier to make Earl Monroe look good than it is Brad Sellers."

"I hope there's a jumpshot in there." - Michael to Stacey King who was walking into the locker room with a box

"They don't need a ticket to watch you sitting on the bench. They can go to your house for that." - Michael to Charles Davis who was sorting through his tickets for his family and friends

"Give me the ****ing ball." - Michael to Doug Collins who drew up a play for Dave Corzine

"I hate when I have to read that in the papers the next day, that I couldn't do something. It wasn't my fault."

"You're an idiot. You've screwed up every play we ever ran. You're too stupid to even remember the plays. We ought to get rid of you." - Michael to Horace Grant

"I hate being out there with those garbagemen. They don't get you the ball."

"If you [pass the ball to Bill Cartwright], you'll never get the ball from me."

"We're not winning because of talent. We're just beating bad teams."

"Headache tonight, Scottie?" - Michael asks Scottie, while showing him his 2-for-16 line

"It's probably a twelve-day. He needs two days to wake up." - Michael on a ten-day contract teammate

"Five more years and I'm out of here. I'm marking these days on a calendar, like I'm in jail. I'm tired of being used by this organization, by the league, by the writers, by everyone."

"They're not interested in winning. They just want to sell tickets, which they can do because of me. They won't make any deals to make us better. And this Kukoc thing. I hate that. They're spending all their time chasing this guy."

"If I were a general manager, we'd be a better team."

"He can't do anything with the ball. Don't give it to him." - Michael yelling at Paxson who passed the ball to Perdue

"We're beating a lot of poor teams. So what? We won a lot of games last year, too. Will Horace and Bill still be playing at this level in the playoffs...Can Pip keep it up?"

"I know what's gonna happen. We'll wait until the last minute and then they'll say something like they couldn't get a deal done because of the cap or somebody pulled out at the last minute. It happens here all the time. I don't know why I'm surprised every year."

"You ever hear of a guy, six-eleven maybe and two hundred sixty pounds, a guy big and fat like that and he can't get but two rebounds, if that many, running all over the damn court and he gets two rebounds? Big guy like that and he gets one rebound. Can't even stick his ass into people and get more than that...Big, fat, fat guy. One rebound in three games. Power forward. Maybe they should call it powerless forward." - Michael ripping Stacey King a new one

"He was scared in there and panicking. He just lost it when Stockton scored." - Michael on B.J. Armstrong's mental fragility

"Will Vanderbilt. He doesn't deserve to be named after a Big Ten school." - Michael on Will Perdue

"I want to prove the critics wrong...I want to see some serious moves from management, which I really haven't seen that much of yet, and I want to see more serious attitudes from my teammates this year when it comes to the playoffs. In the past, it's been more or less a joking thing, sort of a 'Well, we're here, so let's have a good time.'"

"I'm sure everything will be fine if we win, but if we start losing, I'm shooting."

"I know what I would do if I were coach. I'd determine our strengths and weaknesses and utilize them. And it's pretty clear what our strength is."

"Your boy doesn't want to play. I'm tired of bailing his ass out." - Michael yelling at Jim Cleamons about Dennis Hopson

"I don't know about trading a 24 year-old guy for a 34 year-old guy." - Michael questioning the Oakley trade

"He's causing me too many turnovers." - Michael on Cartwright's inability to catch

"Why the hell don't you ever set a pick like that in a game?" - Michael yelling at Perdue after also hitting Perdue upside his head (led to the institution of the private curtain for practices)

Why are people calling CV a p*ssy? He's using words to get into Gay-G's head... the same exact thing Gay-G does.

Gay-G talks all this sh*t and has absolutely no intention of actually fighting. At least CV came out and said he would fight, even if it was via twitter.

For the people like Jalen Rose defending Gay-G and saying that's just part of the game, he's smart for getting into players heads, etc... how is what CV is doing any different? You don't think he's gotten into Gay-G's head with all of this? As far as I'm concerned, CV is a pioneer-- using twitter to play mind games:roll:

Gay-G's last game: 5/15, 13 pts, 8 rebs... and the Celts almost lost at home to the 1-4 Bucks. Then again, guy only averaged 14 and 7 last season. F*cking mediocre has been if you ask me.

Can't wait to see MIA anhilate these b*tches next they play.

How do you explain Andre Blatche, LaMarcus Aldridge, Nazr Mohammed & Tim Duncan? And that's just a few off the top of my head.

Face it, the "KG only goes at white/euro point guards" argument was flat out retarded to begin with. It has been proved wrong multiple times yet people continue to ignore it or make ridiculous excuses.

As for Shaq, as far as I know him and KG were always good friends. Plus I don't know of too many players in the NBA who would go at Shaq so that isn't saying much.

Any player who tries constantly to antagonize other players into fights is a *****. It's the NBA, it's not a park, he knows no one will punch him, and if they do they'll get ejected, suspended, etc. It's like someone teasing you in front of the teacher in class so you do something dumb. It's not a sign of toughness, it's the opposite.

Well just a bit of class wouldn't hurt. I mean Tim Duncan has far more success, accomplishments and is a better player then KG. He conducts himself with class and despite being on one of the most hated teams the players and fans respect him. KG is just lucky he didn't play in Magic's era because he really would have said you look like an aids patient.

I don't think KG cares about what a few people on a message board think. He has 13 all star appearances which is behind only Shaq and Kareem. So besides a handful of haters he's well liked.

If KG played in Magic/Bird era, this "cancer patient" would not be a topic at all.
First, we all know the trash talking is as bad as nowadays, no big deal, and players won't take this outside the basketball court like CV and Evans.
Second, no twitter. Internet just spread this kind of news fast... and in a negative way.
Third, you would not find a player like CV who complained about the trash talking. This was/is part of the game.

Don't want to get into the "who is better" topic, KG or Tim here... but I want to show you this:

Career
KG
1129 games, .497 FG%, .785 FT%, 10.84 RB, 4.19 AST, 1.35 Steal, 1.59 BLK, 19.79 PPG
Duncan
981 games, .508 FG%, .687 FT%, 11.60 RB, 3.16 AST, 0.75 Steal, 2.29 BLK, 21.11 PPG

I don't see there is really a "big" difference in between their stats, except Timmy has a few more rings than KG, because KG wasted so many years in Minnisota.

Fortunately Garnett will be remembered as a champion, an all time great, who revolutionized the game and the power forward spot. Reggie Evans will be remembered for a few solid rebounding performances, and making cute comments about KG.
doesnt change the fact that he is both classless and a giant *****. sorry

markymark
11-05-2010, 11:57 AM
Well just a bit of class wouldn't hurt. I mean Tim Duncan has far more success, accomplishments and is a better player then KG. He conducts himself with class and despite being on one of the most hated teams the players and fans respect him. KG is just lucky he didn't play in Magic's era because he really would have said you look like an aids patient.

I see the p*ssification of the league has p*ssified a lot of posters here.

This is still a story? How many more players are gonna stretch for headlines on the back of this thing?

Trash talk happened during a basketball game. This is newsworthy stuff.

HorryIsMyMVP
11-05-2010, 12:13 PM

The difference is in the 80's people actually got into real fights. KG just talks and hides. He would have gotten knocked the **** out in Magic's era.

So what? Posting on twitter is a lot less expensive than throwing a punch and getting a lengthy suspension.

You can bet there is no way that the chihuahua will accept the challenge and step into the ring because he is a sissy.

For those who think it shouldn't have been posted on twitter, WTF do you think twitter was created for? It was created specifically for celebrities to post some of their day to day experiences and it has become popular for that reason.

If twitter existed 20 years ago do you really believe that players wouldn't be using it to talk trash to each other? Did you ever read Arenas' blog? Smarten up.

There are examples of KG trying shyt with everyone. Big, small, tall, short, guys his weight, guys heavier, stronger. KG has no problem at all starting anything with anyone in the NBA. Fair enough, KG doesn't give a damn about getting into a fight the whole point of talking trash is to get the other player off their game. And it's hilarious how everyone says he doesn't go at guys his size, i'm guessing 6'10 Dwight and 6'11 Blatche don't count as bigs anymore?

And in regards to Charlie V, he goes and challenges KG to a fight after KG is no longer in his presence. Sounds a lot like the guy who runs like a ***** from a fight then talks trash to his friend after the fact knowing nothing will happen to him

People said it was only rookies (cuz he clocked a teammate Rickett years as a Twolve). False. People said it was only PGs. False. Now I got idiots like StacksonDeck aka the guy who types FIRST, 1ST, FURSSST BICHES whenever a video is uploaded on worldstarhiphop saying KG doesnt go at "real guys".

I give this clown a list of NBA players currently in the league and ask him to list these imaginary "real guys" and he fails. I dont care KG ran, backpedalled away from Mcdyess. We're not arguing what KG does after he starts something. We're arguing does KG only target certain players and leaves others alone because he is afraid. Thats false.

Wrong. CV waited until he was no longer at risk of a suspension. If he had started a fight on the court it would have been expensive. Off the court he doesn't have to worry about Stern.

And he wasn't talking just to a friend who probably wouldn't go to the other guy and relay the threat. CV put it out there for everyone to see.

Please forgive my ignorance, and tell me in the 80's when players really get into real fights (not shoving, pushing) because of trash talking??

Don't know if you are a KG-hater or not, but don't use something that never happened (or once or twice only in the history of basketball??) to accuse KG is a puss and scared to challange other big men.

Bird and Jordan and Reggie were big time trash talkers in different eras, and they never got into fights.

Those were guards/small forwards. Magic and Bird specifically got down for sure. Almost throwing blows. They both got crazier than KG ever did. Big men like Kareem, Parish, Laimbeer, etc all threw down. All the "enforcers" back in the day threw down. KG is all bark no bite.

Bird was probably the only guy Dr J got in a fight with. Bird was talking all kinds of smack and badly outplaying him and Dr J just snapped. I can't access youtube at work but i am sure you can find plenty of videos of Bird getting in fights.

He was known for getting in fights before he got in the NBA. He knocked out a fan on the court in the Final Four when he was in college.

Bird was a huge trash talker and got whupped by Julius Erving..... Moses even held him for Doc so Doc could punch him right in the mouth...

I think Sedale threat dropped Bird too

fights happened in the 80s...

They certainly did. Bird got his ass handed to him by Moses and Dr. J. in '83(?). Bird and Laimbeer got into a fight in game 4 of the '87 ECF. They weren't even going to be ejected until Bird threw the ball at Laimbeer's head. Barkley also roughed up Laimbeer in a 1990 game. Back then, the worst case scenario is you MIGHT have been suspended for a game. In many cases, you weren't even thrown out. Throwing players out for fighting didn't become a regular until the '89 playoffs.

Did you just say that Evans hides behind twitter? Because if you did your perception of reality has been severely altered. Find DR. House, cause you need a specialist, he's the only one I know that can find an appropriate shrink for you.

And it will do us all a favor, they don't allow Inside Hoops accounts in there.

People say CV hides behind twitter, i recall CV actually getting into a heated argument w/ garnett during the end of the game at the time of the cancer comment. If I had been CV i would have beat the hell out of him. When his basketball career is over and he is somewhere i would be there and I would knock his ass in the dirt.
