FORT WORTH, Texas - Jennifer Riojas, a Fort Worth science teacher accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, may be pregnant with the teen's child, according to one report.

Police took Riojas into custody on Wednesday. The 25-year-old taught 9th grade science at Carter-Riverside High School before resigning last month.

Riojas and the student first engaged in illicit conduct while the teen was hospitalized for an injury sustained during a high school football game.

Riojas’s alleged involvement with the boy began last year when he was a 16-year-old sophomore at Fort Worth High School, where she worked as a ninth-grade teacher. The teen told cops that “once he got to know” Riojas, she would attend his football games and he “would spend his lunch period” in her classroom.

[B]After the student was injured last December during a game, Riojas visited him at Fort Worth Hospital. There, the boy told detectives, “they engaged in sexual intercourse” in his hospital bed.

Subsequent sexual encounters occurred at local hotels, the victim recalled, adding that Riojas used a discount coupon when paying for one room.


Investigators say the teenage victim came forward last month because he feared he could be the father of Riojas' unborn child. The baby's paternity has not been established.

The warrant alleges that Riojas drove the sophomore student to "different hotels located by N.E. Mall in the Mid-Cities" for the purpose of having sexual intercourse in December and January.

Students who knew both the teacher and the alleged victim told KTVT that they noticed the pair spending an unusual amount of time together.

"In my last year of class he would walk in and talk to her a lot," former student Micheal Webb told the station. "I never really knew anything was going on though at all."

Riojas is charged with sexual assault of a child. Bond was set at $20,000.
