ok, shoot. this thread is all about cinema of 2010. mainstream, indie, foreign, sports, documentaries...whatever. feel free to summarize and explain why you liked it, but this is all about personal favorites. feel free to share any moves you thought were severely overrated/underrated/overlooked. overall, i thought this year was better than last. i like catching up on movies/music i missed out, so let's hear it. here's mine:

1) the town
2) the social network
3) toy story 3
4) inception
5) kick ass
6) the kids are all right
7) scott pilgrim vs. the world
8) the other guys
9) piranha 3d
10) iron man 2

honorable mention: easy a, winter's bone, let the right one in. gotta give a shout out to the whole 30 for 30 series by espn (my fav probably being the MJ and run ricky run one)

have not seen: unstoppable, 127 hours, the red, black swan

1. Inception
2. Black Swan
3. Shutter Island
4. Predators
5. The Town

Have not seen but really want to: Social Network, 127 Hours, Four Lions, The Fighter, I Love You Phillip Morris, Red

Btw, Unstoppable is the worst movie that I have watched in theaters in probably the last 2 years. I do not understand how it got good reviews. It was laughably ridiculous.

good list, my top 5 was ridiculously close. forgot about phillip morris. what's four lions? my pops saw unstoppable, didn't go as far as you. :lol just said it was decent. looking at the reviews, it seems up there and i was never overly impressed by the trailers. but then again, i wasn't too impressed with the kick ass previews, but i really enjoyed it. i think it was just marketed a bit wrong. it's def not a children's movie. equal parts fun/violence for me.

This coming from a guy who has Predators in his top 5. That movie was terrible.
Disagree about Unstoppable was a pretty good, nonstop action and add to that short and to the point.

Now that I think about it, I've probably only watched 2 or 3 movies that came out this year. The only one that was memorable for me was The Town.

okay, to the people who liked winter's bone, wtf? i don't get it at all. i watched that movie with my friend who's a film major (not that that really means he has better "taste" per say, but he does know his stuff) and we both agreed it was terrible. it was so boring and bland, the cinematography was flat and the acting wasn't believable at all. the best word for it is just "boring"

what did you like about it? i really don't mean to sound condescending, but what about the movie was good to you?

I've watched a lot of movies this year and enjoyed most. If this decade had anything over the 90s, it's movies. Seems every year between major and indie films I find a lot of quality.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Mother and Child (while available at the end of 2009 it was shown at the sundance film festival in 2010 and its wide release was 2010)
Black Swan
Catfish
Unthinkable
Toy Story 3
The Book of Eli
Shutter Island
Winter's Bone (not an all time favorite but a 2010 fav)
Predators (was not a fan of the franchise before this movie)
Clash of the Titans (was told it sucked, but I actually liked it)
The Karate Kid
The Crazies
Daybreakers
The Runaways
The Town
Buried
The Fighter
Fish Tank
The Joneses
Exit Through the Gift Shop
The Kids Are All Right
Aftershock
Unstoppable
Iron Man 2
Sus

I still want to see these movies though...
Waiting for Superman
Never Let Me Go
True Grit
Freakanomics (have the book)
Mother
Stone

Inception
Shutter Island
The Crazies
Nightmare on Elm Street

Shutter Island was the best IMO.

I got about half-way through Best Worst Movie before I shut it off. I didn't think it was bad, in fact I thought it was pretty good. I've seen better docs, but who hasn't? It really only kept my attention for about 45 minutes. I turned it off halfway through the part where they were highlighting all his public appearances and felt like there was nothing left to tell. Really, was there? :confusedshrug: What else was there to talk about? I felt like the movie should've been 60 minutes. Of course I say this not having seen the second half.

I agree with a lot of the movies listed so far. I'd also like to mention the Trotsky, which would probably be in the top 3 for me so far.

I haven't seen so many so I don't want to make a list just yet.

1. Inception

Honorable Mention: True Grit, Cyrus, Solitary Man, Iron Man 2, Harry Potter, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Un Prophete...

I haven't seen King's Speech, Winter's Bone, or Black Swan yet, as well as a bunch of movies I'm seeing on critic's "best of 2010" lists.

I actually have been wanting to see that Let Me In based a lot on what you had to say about it, but it's not playing anywhere here anymore(I looked) and the DVD doesn't come out until next month.

I need to see that Trotsky movie too, heard good things. I might go see Black Swan today but I'm a bit under the weather so maybe...I'll break down and watch the screener.:ohwell:

Watch the Trotsky ASAP. It has the rare combination of being a dark comedy that's also laugh out out hysterically funny. Usually darker comedies are just clever and don't garner huge laughs.

I didn't laugh out loud at all but I did enjoy it. I'm not a fan of Jay Baraschel as a leading man but he did a nice job. It also has my #1 hollywood crush Jessica Pare (who I've worked with and is the most insanely beautiful woman) so huge points there.

I think that is Anne Hathaway. She (Jessica Pare) does look a bit like her though, I see a little Natalie Portman and Liv Tyler in her too. I was seriously befuddled talking to her. The definition of natural beauty.

tough to do my top 10. a lot of great movies came out this year.

my top 10:

1. Black Swan
2. Inception
3. Please Give
4. Blue Valentine
5. Toy Story 3
6. Shutter Island
7. 127 Hours
8. Never Let Me Go
9. Greenberg
10. Cyrus

Honorable Mentions: The Social Network, Kick Ass, The Town, The Ghost Writer, The Book of Eli, Hot Tub Time Machine (yeah you can flame me there, but i'm a lover for 80s themes), Winter's Bone, Animal Kingdom

Movies I want to see: Let Me In, The Fighter, True Grit, Easy A, Hereafter, jack goes boating, exit through the gift shop

i would add Meek's Cutoff and the Company Men to my list, but "technically" these movies are going to be released in 2011. so when the top 2011 movies come out, meek's cutoff is automatically my top 3 movie no matter what. :lol the company men is a solid movie for those who have been or are in the working force, and good symbolization of modern day work.

Hot Tub Time Machine (yeah you can flame me there, but i'm a lover for 80s themes)

Shit, that would have to make my list as well of movies I'd recommend to an average person.

Say what you will, but that movie was exactly what it set out to be; at times pretty hilarious and a retrospect of the 80s.

Repped for not caring that you'll get flamed for liking 'Hot Tub Time Machine'

In order:

excellent film. could have made my top 10, but there were 10 better movies. :lol

since we're talking about favs, i want to name my worsts.

top 5 worst movies of 2010:

1. the kids are all right
2. main street (with orlando bloom, colin firth, and amber tamberlyn. looks good right? no. terrible movie)
3. ong bak 3 (should have stopped at 1)
4. ip man 2 (should have stopped at 1)
5. rabbit hole

honorable mention: marmaduke, MacGruber

some people may say the kids are all right a good movie, but i just felt it was a propaganda smear campaign film to shove in our faces lesbians are real people, and trying to make some kind of social statement. just my 2 cents.

what did you like about it? i really don't mean to sound condescending, but what about the movie was good to you?I just stumbled upon "Winter's Bone" this evening and I sort of had the same feelings. Because the movie received such great reviews, I feel it's worth me giving the movie some extra thought.

I know this is an old thread but for those who've seen it, what made Winter's Bone so great in your opinion?

Man people have horrible taste in movies. Only good movies mentioned in this thread; "I'm still here" & "Exit through Gift Shop."
