Unbelievable... I don't think I've ever seen a guy get this high in game... His head looked like 3 inches over the rim.

Anyone have the slow-mo from a close angle? You can see how he had throw his head back to avoid hitting in on the rim.

Edit:

To everyone saying he wasn't above the rim, check this video from the local feed @ 0:19:

If Griffin enters this season's dunk contest, we might see a Superman dunk, but with windmill or some other tricks.

I can't recall anyone is recent memory getting their head over rim level in game.

Even LBJ... though sometimes he gets to rim level.

Well, there aren't that many players in the league who can literally get their eyebrows over the rim. A few, but not that many. quit trying to hate on the sly...lol

He's gonna be great for the dunk contest, back to power dunks that the building can feel like Nique used to do.

But as for this particular clip, I was expecting more I guess. Not bread worthy IMO, his tapered Ginger fro was just barely edging over the rim.

how in the fvck can you tell hes over the rim on that play when the angle and distance at which it was filmed at could give you no where near the amount of proof needed.

i did not agree that the dunk was all that impressive, that is all.

Because I watched it live and they showed a slo-mo replay from a different angle that showed it clearly (I mentioned in the OP - if anyone has it please post).

You can tell from that angle because he jerks his head back to avoid his forehead hitting the rim.

He had to curve his back to not hit his face on the rim. Too bad, over time would make a pretty hilarious montage starting with the classic face to the backboard vs. Michigan.

When I was on the practice squad for DePaul ... I got to sit on the floor behind our bench and when Cincy came to town, he was dunking in warm ups and this dude was so far above the rim it isn't even funny. To see it in person is ridiculous.

When he got signed by the Rockets I wasthiscloseto going to see him play against the Grizz. The shit that guy can do is amazing. He's also not a terrible shooter. Not sure why he hasn't made a roster in a while.

What a great NBA career, too.

Reminds me of Wilred Hetzel...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1083519/index.htm

World's Greatest (and doubtless only) Freak Shot Expert Wilfred Hetzel, who was discharged from the Army in 1943 "for nervousness," is nervous now. In the assembly program at Ladysmith (Va.) High School this morning, the kids were a little restless, and his performance a little ragged. True, he hit over 70% of his gallimaufry of shots—with eyes shut, with legs crossed, with legs downright entwined, on the bounce off the floor, from one foot, from one knee, from both knees, from behind the backboard (frontward and backward), from up on his toes, from back on his heels (toes in the air) and in various combinations of the above. The kids responded with a gleeful shout, as he says they almost always do, to his "goofy series," in which he suddenly assumes a fey, exaggeratedly knock-kneed or bowlegged stance and then lets fly.

But the days of his 60-foot and 70-foot peg shots, which he used to make off ceilings or over rafters or simply from one end of the court to the other, are gone. Now, 58 years old and weakened by an operation for TB, the man who bills himself as "Thrice Featured in Believe It or Not and Twice in Strange as It Seems" can shoot the ball only underhanded (except on his bounce shots) and seldom from farther out than the foul line. And in 14 tries at Ladysmith, his 18-foot dropkick, his most spectacular remaining shot, was in and out once but never quite swished. The kids cheered frequently and came up for autographs afterward but, as Hetzel says, "If I can't impress them as the best—well, that's the point."

McCants has skills, White wasn't even that good in college, bro ...

He's just athletic as hell, and has length. That's all. Sad, but true.

I've been on this board a long time and I recall many threads of people posting videos, photos arguing a player got thier head above rim level. Somehow Blake Griffin is the first to do it tho. Afterall he is the best in game dunker of all time. And if refs gave Blake foul calls he avg 13-14 FTA a game.

Small detail, I'm a Michigan guy, so I'm obligated to mention that "head hitting the backboard" dunk occured against Syracuse, not UM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NMlt3uG3Fs).

This is the dunk he pulled off against Michigan. Poor Zack Novak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kca4Oej7Pz0
