Homosexual transmission is the majority while heterosexual transmission represents less than 10% of HIV transmission. It is true that heterosexual transmission is less likely.

We know heterosexual intercourse posses less risk. This doesn't mean that the risk is not serious. You said under 10% of hiv transmission comes from heterosexual intercourse. Don't know where you found this but I'll take your word for it. There are 35 million people living with aids today. Even 5% of 35 million is 1.75 million. Even with my conservative calculation, still is quite a significant number of people contracting the disease via heterosexual intercourse. I doubt you would be happy being one of these 1.75 million people.
