Westbrook finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists - the last coming when he rushed the ball up to Serge Ibaka for a dunk with 6.9 seconds left instead of running out the clock.
"You don't do that. The game is over with," Atlanta coach Larry Drew said. "The game is over with. You've got the ball, you run the clock out. Just that plain and simple."
"When you've got the game won, you run the clock out," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "Russell knows how I feel about situations like that, and it was a mistake, but I'm not going to let a mistake at the end of the game ruin what we've done tonight. I thought the game was as well as we've played both ends of the floor against one of the best teams in basketball."

I don't get that. Yeah sure it's stat padding but how can the coach of the opposing team whine about a guy scoring on him. Should they also stop when they've got double digit leads? Maybe start the game over when it looks like it's going to be a blowout?

Because the game was already won, dude was whoring for a triple double.

Exactly. There is this thing called sportmanship. Whether they get paid to play the game or not. As every single NBA player if they should shoot with 5 seconds left if the game is over and (IMO) 90% of them (past and present) players will say no.

Yeah i get that, but how can the coach of the other team whine about that?
either play until the end or just give it up but don't whine. Next step is saying: "they were already up 20 points and still kept scoring" That's kinda the point of the game.

They have to shoot because of the shot clock, but if it's under 5 seconds and you have the game in hand, it's not cool to whore for individual stats.
It's not whining.
You don't run up the score, and you don't do what Westbrook did. That's not about being competitive, it was about him getting that last assists when he was supposed to dribble out the clock.

I saw the end... it was def stat padding because Westbrook was gonna dribble the ball out. But I suppose someone from the bench said you need 1 more assist for a trip double. His teammates wanted him to get it... I imagine he did too. He'll learn from this... as long as Scott Brooks tears into him about it.

None of you watched the game. Why would he be mad when his own player (Horford) AFTER Russell made the final assist, took the ball and ran and score an uncontested layup before the buzzer?

0:24 Josh Smith defensive rebound 92-101
0:14 Serge Ibaka blocks Joe Johnson's 17-foot jumper 92-101
0:11 92-101 Nick Collison defensive rebound
0:06 92-103 Serge Ibaka makes dunk (Russell Westbrook assists)
0:02 Al Horford makes layup 94-103
0:00 End of the 4th Quarter
Joe Johnson didn't even have to shoot the shot that got blocked. :oldlol: BUt he did, we end up with the ball, Russ throws a fullcourt pass to Ibaka who dunks with 6 seconds left. Bad sportsmanship, ok if you say so though I disagree with that whole idea, but then why does Al Horford still run down and score a quick uncontested 2 against nobody while everybody else is walking off the court? Isn't that bad sportsmanship too? Maybe a little window dressing on a night that saw him go 5-11 and finish with a meager 12 pts?

Same rules do not apply to the losing team. You see that in every game where the losing teams puts up a shot even though the game is over.

:oldlol: So the losing team doesn't have to be "good sports?" They can stat pad? What sense does that make? Joe Johnson should have just dribbled the clock out. The game was over after all, right? Bunch of people just love to make shit up to whine about even though their logic and double standards don't make sense across the board.
BTW, I suggest everybody go rewatch Larry Bird's 61pt game if you like to cry about sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship? How about scoring till the time is out. Now that's sportsmanship. Not whining that someone didn't stop playing when the game was already decided. Who cares.

It was 92-101. Joe makes a jumpers it becomes 94-101. He makes a three it becomes 95-101. Game still within reach. He wasn't stat padding at all. He's just trying to win even if the possibility of it happening were very low. Westbrooke didn't have to do shit though. You're up by enough points to dribble it out, no one is trying to foul you, but since he knew he was one assist away, he passes to Ibaka to seal a triple double.
So one's trying to win, one's trying to get nightly notable. See the difference now?
It's somewhat unsportsmanlike. It's also a slap in the face to the game to pull a Ricky Davis. It's a sad he got nightly notable aswell.

Yea right. Dudes were just trying to get numbers knowing they had lost. Their body language was not even that of a team who thought they could do the impossible. They were just trying to get quick shots up at the end because the defense is very loosened up.
You forget I actually watched the game and am not somebody just going off a quote from the losing coach and something some media person said.
BTW, defend Horford's layup now

Ofcourse the body language changed. I did say the possibilities were very low. There's still a chance however, very low, but try it anyways. Joe did, it got blocked.
Horford's layup? Yeah that's a sincere '**** you' layup for Westbrooke's ignorance.

"When you've got the game won, you run the clock out," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. I would like to see one of the more hated players on ISH do this. Could you guys imagine if Kobe, Rose, or Lebron did this? You'd have all kinds of trolling and bashing going on. Can't believe there's people defending what he did. It must take a really immature mind to agree with disregarding sportsmanship.

 are you serious? You don't get Rose hate threads, not to the degree you get Kobe/LeBron/Wade/Howard hate threads/posts. Come on, now. Just because not everyone shares Bulls' fans opinions about Rose doesn't mean he's hated on - at least not like the ones I mentioned.
In answer to your question, however, of course it would get more attention on here if LeBron or Kobe did that, but that's because there are posters on here who post almost solely about LeBron or Kobe and their love or hate for them.

Give it some time. Derrick Rose has only be in the league three years. He'll reach that level at this rate. Rose is widely hated and trolled on ISH, if you don't see it, you're not keeping up.

Because Russ didn't have to get the assist, I'm not arguing that. I'm laughing at the idea of Russ being a bad sport, but Joe Johnson and Al Horford not when they all did the same thing, try to continue to play when they could have just dribbled the clock out.

Apologies for not reading every thread, but there isn't a multi-page thread a day about him like there is most of the hated players. I'd say the main reason is because Bulls fans aren't exactly OMFG LOOK AT ROSE HE JUST GOT AN ASSIST GOAT!!!1  in the way some Kobe/LeBron dickriders on here are, so people on here don't hate on him. I dislike LeBron more because of some of the more idiotic trolls on here, and I'm sure many others feel the same way.
Hated/trolled is not the same as underrated. Which he isn't imo, but you clearly think so.

westbrook did do something that is considered poor sportsmanship, bad form or whatever you want to tag it.. but i'd think the atlanta coach would be better served addressing his teams shortcomings for the previous 47 minutes..

And if he is going to be steamed at somebody, at least be steamed at his own damn defense for not stopping the pass.

Lebron clearly tried to get a triple double against the Knicks a couple of years back when the game was already decided. He fought for a rebound against his own teammate on the last shot of the game. He knew he needed 1 rebound to get it. The funny thing is, a rebound was taken away by the NBA or whoever reviews the games stats :lol Was it karma? Can't wait till they take away 1 of Westbrook's assists after re-watching the game :oldlol:
