Ray Allen currently has 2526, the record set by Reggie Miller is 2560. Ray Ray needs 34 three pointers to tie, 35 to break. He's making 2.2 a game this season so far. He's projected to break the record in roughly 16-17 games from now. Looking at the schedule, and knowing Boston fans, we would really hope he does it at home. It's projected to be the week of February 14, however, that Wednesday of that week is the last game of the season before the All Star festivities, so if he doesn't break it then, we'd have to wait another week before he does, when we go on a tough 4 game west-coast road trip.

If he can step up his three point shooting, he could potentially break the record at home against LAL, Miami, or New Jersey. That's our last home-stand before the All-Star break and the west-coast road trip.

There's no telling really when he'll do it. Ray's certainly known for exploding and going for well above 5 three pointers made a game for a stretch. Shit, he could do it in a handful of games if he looks for his shot and is stroking it well.

I will update this thread after every Boston game:

Ray Allen: 2555
Reggie Miller: 2560

Rondo has been setting him up very well so far this season. To be honest, teams aren't defending Ray as well as they used to. I'm watching these games, looking at the defenders running through screens and picks and I'm not seeing the same ferocity on defense against Ray like I have the past few seasons. And he hasn't declined since then physically, he's the same old Ray Ray.

I think that Ray is just too good at getting open. He leaves his defender so unnoticed, it's crazy that he gets so many open looks now.

Congrats to Kidd also for moving into 3rd place (deserves it own thread) also Pierce might move into the top 10 this season. But not to get a Ray thread off track so props to him when he eventually does it.

I hope that I can gauge when he will do it and be able to go to the game when he breaks it. It was looking like the game against Phoenix in March for the entire season, but he's been hitting quite a few in the last few games.

Seeing that in person would be sick.

Does Ray Allen have an outside shot at 3000 threes when all is said and done????

Yes. It's certainly possible provided that he doesn't retire after 3 more seasons and he keeps up the same kind of production and barring injury. Celtics also need to have winning seasons.

Rondo passes to Ray Allen in the right spots and the capability that Pierce and Allen can play off each other helps makes this achievable.

Allen has turned out and will turn out nothing like Michael Finley. Finley was a flash in the pan type of player. Amazing potential and talent going into the league, had a few good years in which he put up some nice numbers and then starting dropping off drastically after a couple of years. Allen has been the model of consistency his entire career. His numbers have stayed relatively the same over the years, even after he went to Boston. Unlike Finley Allen has continued to be able to be productive and stay in the league long after his prime. He continued to make the all-star team from 04-09. His excellent work ethic has helped him contribute to his team in a variety of different ways. He is still willing to work and run through screens, still willing to come to practice every team and shoot a zillion three-pointers and unlike Finley who mainly relied on his athleticism and talent, Allen has a variety of different skills he can go back to well into his mid to late 30s.

If Ray continues his torrid January 3 point shooting than he has a chance to break the record at Home vs. Dallas or Orlando. However, a far more conservative estimate is during the stretch of games is the road trip after all-star game; @ Golden State, @ Denver, @ Los Angeles Clippers, finally @ Utah. Hopefully Ray can get it done before that at home vs. Mia or vs. NJ if he can't do it before the earlier home games I mentioned.

Im not sure but he only had 11 points yesterday. 4 of those being from a 4 point play at the three point line. so im guessing he had 3 3's at the most. :confusedshrug:

Looks some posters on here are jumping on the Ray Allen bandwagon.......i remember last year in the finals, ray set a NBA record in game 2 and went ice cold for game 3-4, and ray went from most loved to most hated, now the wheel has turned again, and he is much loved! its ironic how the wheel can turn.

In the 2008 finals i thought ray outplayed Peirce back then, I thought in the 2010 East Conference finals Peirce starting ball hogging in game 4-5 - with hindsight I have come to respect Peirce more, he's not the the ball hog i once thought. Ray probably gave up too much of his offensive compared to Peirce but I am no longer complaining- the C's look like their on the verge of another finals appearance, especially if they get healthy.

I am finally recovered to post on here after the game seven loss!

I honestly don't see Ray finishing the record against the Magic. Reddick always keeps close to Ray. If Jason Richardson is guarding Ray for most of the game, he has a very slight chance, considering he would have to shoot an avg of 4.5 3-pt FG made against Mavs and Magic.

It was more of a suggestion than a prediction but it's cool he pretty much followed my idea. He can definitely get more than 2 against the Lakers though.

Ray should save a couple of 3's for the TNT game against the Lakers.
It's the Super Bowl weekend, his record will be overshadowed.

2 vs the Magic
2 vs the Bobcats
2 vs the Lakers

He ties and breaks the record in front of Reggie and against the Lakers. :D

I wanna see Ray break the record and score 101 pts but I also want the Lakers to win.

Sorry for my wish to spoil Ray's greatest(maybe top 5) game.:lol

ray 1 3 pointer short of the record.

of course he's going to be doing it in front of reggie thursday night against the lakers. unless ray puts up a doughnut, which is not likely.

congratulations!

Yup!

Ray didn't attempt any 3 point shots on the 2nd half vs the Cats :oldlol:

He didn't even find a way to set himself up for an open three :oldlol:

He'll do it vs the Lakers or the Heat :pimp:
