Im so psyched about this matchup, mostly becuase when I first started watching MMA Vitor was the big thing at that time he was literally coasting through all his opponents at the time , from Scott Ferozo to Abbott. Vitor had his ups and downs through the years. Were as Vitor was a star from the start Silva was a relative unknown from the Chute Box camp, he was always under the limelight due to more popular teammates Wand, Shogun and Ninja, he only started showing potential in Cage rage were he was the champ and is currently the UFC MW champion with if im not mistaken more straight wins then Royce or Matt Hughes.

lots of intresting matchups in this card looks pretty stacked to me. We get Jones and Bader two up and comers lots of potential in this fight. We finally get to see the bantam and fetherweights of the defunct WEC. And possibly the swan song of Rich Franklin going against another great Forrest Griffin.

I'm not dying to see Silva/Belfort, but overall this (on paper anyway) is one of the better recent cards.

Really want to see the Jon Jones, Ryan Bader fight. Griffin/Franklin should be entertaining and glad to see Cerrone and Torres making their UFC debuts.

Hopefully if Anderson wins this fight and GSP defeats Shields at 129 they will finally have those 2 fight each other. Although I can't remember if Okami was promised the next match against Silva?

I see your reasoning there, but if he did that the UFC could be blowing a huge opportunity. Right now you know Dana will market this as the greatest Champion vs Champion match in the history of mma. This fight would be one of the biggest ppv draws ever. If GSP goes and loses a split decision to Chael Sonnen before this match in a non-title fight then all the hype for this fight dissapears.

BTW, Belfort has a better chance than GSP would have against Silva.
The spider is a huge middleweight. He walks around at 200+ pounds. GSP is too small to face him. Only a cathweight thin would make sense. Silva should move up to light heavyweight. Some great matchups there.

ya segal is a badass now to think of it, he really wanted to help anderson because he approached him silently i always thought his presence would be a hinderance to silva's fighting after silva got rocked by connen, but that kick was incredibly sharp.

i think it's worth mentioning belfort was coming off considerate ring (octagon?) rust as well. something like close to 17 months. training can't replace that.

silva vs. gsp is going to be sick. hopefully we get an awesome trilogy (doesn't happen much in MMA but you can only hope).

i'm gonna have to take silva. he's just more elusive and a better striker. obviously, gsp is much better at takedowns. maybe gsp can wear silva down like sonnen did. lots of body shots, maybe he can throw some elbows. he's gotta watch for a kimura or arm bar though. if gsp avoids a KO or sub, he can have a good shot to win. i just don't really see him subbing silva. anything can happen though.

Managed to avoid spoilers last night and just watched this. Fairly dull overall event but fantastic ending. Silva is just too smart of a fighter.

- :rolleyes: @ Jones giving all credit to "God". I'm just so fed up with athletes doing this. Whatever. They're his beliefs I guess.

- The Rocha-Ellenberger fight was entertaining but odd. It seemed like whenever it went to the ground, Rocha had control. Even off his back at the end of the 2nd round. But he never went for a takedown or even a clinch himself. I'd like to see more out of him.

- So Yushin Okami gets no title shot now if GSP wins? Sucks for him. As much as I want GSP to win this superfight if it happens, I would never put money on it. I'm sure he'll have the same gameplan as Sonnen but I don't think he has the size to control Silva like that on the ground.
