Finally bought an iPad...

oh my god this might be the greatest thing i've ever owned

i have an iphone, but it can't come close to this thing

i can literally mount this thing on my car as a navigation system and the splashtop app is probably the coolest thing ive ever seen. it lets me control my laptop/desktop using the ipad through a VNC..so i have no need to take my laptop with me anymore as i can use it through the ipad.

i also have no need for notebooks anymore since i just can write notes using the notemaster app

It is basically a dumbed-down laptop.

I should have been in the market long time ago, but nobody dared until Apple did.

disagree..with the splashtop app its basically a more portable laptop. just carry the bluetooth keyboard and its all you need

Typing sucks on that thing. especially in forums when you are trying to quote someone. It's a toy right now. good for multimedia and browsing but no real work will get done on one. i'm selling mine soon.

It defeats the purpose of using something ultra-portable if you have to get a full size keyboard for the damn thing. That's the problem with it being a full portable device, at least with a netbook you can "feel" the keys and not look where you have to place your finger on the touch screen.

Dude..... sorry to break it to you, but the new versions of the iPad is rumored to be announced early Feb, with possible shipping dates that same month.

I've used it personally. It's a good device, but I feel Apple did a poor job at executing it. Although the argument with that is that a lot of people like it and it's making a ton of money.

I've owned this ipad for nearly a year now. It's great for consumption but it sucks for production. i find that I use the Envy 13 alot more. iPad has been relegated to surfing on the toilet or couch, and on airplanes.

I honestly don't know, I just keep reading rave reviews how it's the best VNC for the ipad.

As far as the new iPad's concerned, there's only rumors at the moment. But some of these rumors seem to be valid.

A very fast processor (dual cores according to some rumors)
Retina Display like display
Lighter
Longer battery life
Front and back facing cameras
USB and possibly a mini display port

Those are the rumors so far, we won't truly know until they announce them next month.

the new one will be faster, have 2 cameras so you can skype, MAYBE have an sd card this time to transfer files, so it should be a much more useful machine.

but i still wouldn't get an ipad though, but not because i don't like apple, but because i simply have no use for a tablet. don't feel like carrying it around and it doesn't exactly fit into your pocket... and if i need internet on the road, the iphone is good enough for me.

LOL...funny thread. I just got the $499 wifi iPad yesterday....and the main reason I got it was because of that Splashtop app.

That thing is amazing -- I work online so this thing is perfect for me when I'm out of the office.

This is my first Apple purchase....last time I used a mac on a consistent basis was in grade school playing Oregon Trail and Number Munchers...

It's basically a remote desktop app that's also optimzied for media and video via a helper app on the host computer.

I've played dvd & bluray files from my home pc with no problem....streamed from hulu, icefilms, and others.
