I keep a list of every movie that I have watched in last 5 years, trying to keep it updated. just going down the list - few of them such as The Outsiders, E.T, Remember the Titans and Lion King are off the top of my head from before I started compiling the list:
In NO specific order, here's a bunch of moving movies that brought me to the edge of tears - none of them made me cry physically though. I am sure if I started talking after I saw many of these though, I would have a hard time talking without just choking up
-One Flew over Cuckoos Nest
-A Beautiful Mind
-original The Karate Kid series (original, NOT the one with Will Smith's son)
-Gandhi
-Gran Torino
-A Perfect World
-We were soldiers
-Rain Man
-The Outsiders
-Shawshank Redemption
-E.T
-Forrest Gump (I gotta watch it again, haven't watched in a very long time)
-Lion King (Saw this when I was 13, brought me close to tears. dunno if it would be moving now, maybe somewhat)
-Schindler's List
-The Pursuit of Happyness (only a couple scenes)
-Saving Private Ryan
-To Killing a Mocking Bird
-Marley and Me
-Remember the Titans
-The Express
-Gridiron Gang
-Dead Poets Society (saw this in my senior year of HS in english class, vividly remember it. My senior year teacher was retiring that year alongside her senior students and she wanted to show the students 3 movies that she found very emotional, this was one of them). Never forgetting this; saw it on the last day of Highschool. Unforgettable.
-Munich
-Patch Adams
-original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
-We are Marshall
-Friday Night Lights
-The Blind Side
-The Bucket List
-Toy Story 3
-Click
-million dollar baby
-Glory
-Glory Road
-Coach Carter
-Rocky (the last one in the series)
-The Wrestler (thought the movie was a bit overrated but still very good)
-Green Fried Tomatoes (personally didn't like the overall movie much, but it was emotional movie without a question)
-Blood diamond
-into the wild
-Braveheart
-Slumdog Millionaire
-As good as it gets
-Armageddon
-Thirteen days
-The Dark Knight (the ending hit me hard)
-Lord of the Rings (few scenes hit me hard)
-Hotel Rwanda (couple scenes)
-Star Wars (more nostalgia than anything)
-Full Metal Jacket (couple scenes hit me hard)
-Back to the Future(couple scenes)
-
Some international movies that were just stunning (Indian Bollywood movies, doubt 95% of the people here know these so it is for those other 5%):
-Rang de Basanti
-Three idiots
-Taare Zaamen Per - have yet to watch this movie, but I know it will hit me hard when I watch it
-Munna Bhai M.B.B.S
-Lage Raho Munna Bhai
Damnit, I know I saw more than these movies that really moved me, but I just cannot remember off the top of my head right now. ughhh, I will post more if I think of them
Anyways, list some that really moved you. I want to add some movies onto my Need to Watch list, hopefully it will be some from the posts in this thread
edit: removed a couple. added a bunch new movies that I remembered

I've never cried but I've had a little bit of moisture well up a couple times:
**** SPOILERS AHEAD ****
Shallow Hall (seriously)
- The scene where Hal goes back to the children's hospital after he's been "de-shallowized". I dare someone to watch the movie and see that scene in context and not be touched. And I can't even stand children.
Vanilla Sky
- The whole rooftop sequence, especially the flashback to David's memorial. Perfect music choices here too. Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space...
Toy Story 3
- When he's giving away the toys. Oh god, oh man. Oh god, oh man!
Never Let Me Go
- Best movie of 2010. "We had it to see if you had souls at all." The change on Tommy's face, the sad acceptance on Kathy's. Devastating.
Into the Wild
- Towards the end where it cuts between him in the bus and scenes of his family.

I redid my list, some of my movies I felt shouldn't of made it, but the two main ones that get me almost get me tearing up everytime are...
Up
--The beginning when it shows the montage of Carl and Ellie together, when she can't have a child. And towards the end when Carl finds her adventure book and he see's what she left for him as a message before she died.
The Green Mile
--When Paul (Tom Hanks) asks John Coffey what's he suppose to say when God asks him why he killed one of his miracles. Then they execute them.

The most emotional I've gotten from a movie is Toy Story 3. Holy hell, that end scene was rough. I was in tears.
I think I also teared up a bit from Pay it Forward. And American History X just made me feel really sad. Other than that, can't really remember too much.
Edit: Haven't seen Marley and Me but I hear even if you know the ending you will still most likely cry. Doubt I'll ever see the movie though.

Lion King
Homeward Bound
Green Mile
*Insert movie where animal dies*
Marley and Me was so bad for me because it was a year after my dog died that I had for 14 years and the whole last part of the movie reminded me of that. I was like full-on crying like a baby. It was on my first date with a chick too, looooool. Luckily, just about everybody in the theater was crying. Also, from the previews (I had seen), I thought it was just a 1 hour and 45 min long comedy. I had no idea it was a 2hour+ dramedy where the last hour was just depressing and sad. So I was completely unprepared. Would I have still cried? Prob, but at least I would have been ready for it, haha.
I will say though, Remember the Titans(my favorite movie of all time) still draws an emotional response from me at the end. I have seen the movie easily 200 times and it still manages to do it. The build up, music, and scene just really made it for me. One of my favorite scenes where I think the music is perfectly complemented with what's going on.
Click also made me sad, but I don't remember crying, just feeling sad.
There may be others that made me cry or got emotion out of me, but I can't remember.
Edit-
Braveheart- ending seen with him shouting, "Freedom!!!!!!!!!"

In fact, I just saw Marley and Me for the first time this morning. I was choking up so bad that I could barely speak, but that is the closest I get to crying. Great great great movie. I just can't cry though no matter what I do, the last time I really bawled was in 7th grade; I still remember. I don't talk about it in real life, but I had a back surgery, and I was in a lot of pain days after surgery to the point that I couldn't even sit or lay on my back. Never cried after I was all healed up after that instance. Been 8 years since.. Dunno, maybe something is wrong with me since I can't cry. :lol
I can't believe I forgot about Toy Story 3. Wow, I just saw that movie a few months ago. That movie also brought me close to tears. Just felt so damn nostalgic..

Hey not making fun of being on the edge of crying, some of those are legit, but some...
The Godfather series? How? And the original Willy Wonka? That has a happy ending. And Karate Kid?
And lol, Lion King it would totally move you if you saw it now. If those other movies brought you to tearing up, Mufasa's death and Simba's loss is sooo much sadder than a lot of those.

Willy Wonka.. there were a couple emotional scenes that hit you pretty hard.. such as when Charlie very slowly walks with tears in his eyes to Wonka at the end to give back the small piece of candy that was "supposed" to make him rich. Charlie puts money aside from his mind and returns something (the most important candy that Wonka had made in his factory). The other very moving scene was earlier when you find out how poor the family is and the whole family crowds around to watch little Charlie open a wonka bar. The facial expressions on all of their faces after Charlie opens the bar makes the viewers feel heartbroken almost that Charlie doesn't get any break in his and his family's life of poverty. It is pretty emotional when you watch it as a child, and see that nothing in life is as pleasant as you may have been led to believe.
The Karate Kid - right now, I don't remember the exact scenes that were emotional to me. I know the soundtrack was awesome and definitely made me emotional (still have a bunch of songs on my playlist from that series). I would have to watch the 3 movies again before I can point anything out to you from that.
Godfather - shouldn't be on that list. I dunno why I put it on. There were a few emotional scenes, but not enough to bring me anywhere close to tears. :confusedshrug:

Definitely awesome theme song ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjQWBzGRCKU ). I have it on my playlist somewhere. Now that series overall also was pretty emotional. Really warmed you up fully, the last episode was great for wrapping up the entire picture for the watchers. Really made me sit there for like 10 mins after the final episode was finished, just reflecting on everything. Was an awesome 10 mins that I still remember to this day 5.5 years later (watched it in summer of high school freshman year).
What about the Halo theme song? Also raises goose bumps, really warms you up instantly and calms you down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om0M6Ol8FjQ&feature=related

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - The climatic end to Joel's memory of Clementine on the beach. That whole scene gets me. From "This is it, it's gonna be gone soon" to "Come back and make up a goodbye at least. Let's pretend we had one."
Crash - The scene with the child and the fiery car accident featuring the man's wife.

I don't usually cry during movies. Things like death and tragedy don't really bother me. The only thing that can bring me to tears are movies that deal with father-son relationships, because I had a poor relationship with my father.

I have a good relationship with my dad and I think thats why those sort of scenes effect me in the same way.
The scene in Blood Diamond where the guy finds his kid and the kid doesn't recognize him, chokes me up every time i see it.
The three movies that have gotten the biggest emotional response from me:
Rudy - It starts when the giant defensive (I think) lineman starts chanting Rudy's name and it crests when they carry him off the field on their shoulders. Just a scene that really gets me.
Marley & Me - Seriously, it has been rough every time I have watched it. The final 30 minutes or so sucks. It's even worse, because I imagine the day that my son is older and the dog we own dies. Terrible.
Toy Story 3 - Most anyone who grew up with the TS movies is now in their 20's, so we are like the child who owns the toys. WE owned the toys. When he gives them away, just brutal. Tough, tough time in the Bird household.

Agree with Toy Story 3, watched that with my 4 siblings of whom the oldest is 10, and I was the one bawling my eyes out at the end. Must have been strange to see their 21 year old brother in tears at a 'kids' film.

Movies I teared up for:
The Guru of Go (Documentary. When they talk abouot Hank Gathers dying and they show his brother.)
Toy Story 3
The part in Friday Night Lights where the star messed up his leg and then is in the car with his uncle and is like: "What am I gonna do now. I don't know how to do nothin else."
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
The Wrestler made me tear up a bit. When Mickey is talking to Tomei and the Guns and Roses song comes up, abruptly ripping him away from a heartbreaking moment.. Knowing that hes being called to a dire situation, kind of summed up the epitome of his tragic tale...

Shindler's List - the whole movie is brutal but near the end when Liam is breaking down about not saving more people is the scene that gets me
The Fountain - the cure! the cure! toooo laaaate :(

My Girl - the bees! run Mac run! noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - :facepalm I know, I know but the dude that plays Cedric's dad just NAILS his scene when he sees his son at the end of the competition and realizes what has happened.

I rarely cry during movies but I do get like teary eyed and get goosebumps/chills like feel for the movie but I've only like litterly cried in only a couple, they are:
Twister
Lion King (1st one)
both cuz of a similar reason, the dad dies in both.

Okay, I'll bite and share something closer to the heart.
Edward Scissorhands - A Christmas past where Edward was finally going to get his hands, only to see his creator die and his hands ruined.
It's not a movie, but the first episode from season 3 of Quantum Leap. I never liked quantum leap when I was younger, then one day I was bored and watched the series on netflix. The episode "A Leap Home" where.... well, I wont spoil it for anyone. I never really became emotional with TV shows, but this one episode was such a huge exception.
There are a few, but these 2 choke me up each and every time.

Dang, you watched Shoah?!
Would you recommend it to someone who is already fairly well informed on the subject?
I would say it's almost essential if you're well informed and interested in the subject. I knew about the movie for a long time, but didn't watch it till a couple of years ago when my TA went over it in detail which finally got me to sit down and watch it. It took me the entire weekend to get through (split it over four sessions). My friend saw it at a local theater, I think that might be the best way to see it, dedicate one day to it and watch it in one sitting (with just the necessary breaks) because it can be tough to get yourself to start it up session to session. It's a LOT of interviews (bordering on confrontations sometimes I thought), driving/walking around the cities, and periods of idle shots of certain sites which can stretch for a long time, so you really need to make the commitment to get through it all. It's emotional and very informative, but 9 hours can still be a chore to get through.

Im generally a pretty composed dude when it comes to tear jerking scenes in movies but 2 in particular that always nearly ruin me are;
Cinderella Man: The scene where's he's at the end of his rope and left with no choice but to beg for loot. Family is everything to me in life and I respect the notion of a man doing whatever the f*uck it takes to see fit that his family is taken care of...
The Pursuit of Happiness: The scene where he's at his lowest point and tricks his son into thinking them sleeping in a subway washroom is a game. As well as the concluding scene where he's finally rewarded the job.

The ending montage of A Curious Case of Benjamin Button left me with some very heavy feelings deep down. How all the people in the film had an identifable role in his life and how we lead different existences.
The part that DID have me actually choking up was the part, "Some people are mothers" with the shot of her loving embraces. Remided me very much the nature of motherly nourishment and how blessed I am to have the best version of that, because not all do.

I have only seen into the wild off this list, but yeah its definitely a tearjerker. all the while being pissed at him for being an idiot who wasnt prepared in any way for this (no knowledge of how to properly dry meat in an artic environment, no map, no understanding of the local geography - he was something like 2 miles from a pretty big highway). So sad.

Land Before Time. - Oh f*ck yes. Just the ending song "If weeee hoold onnn togethhaaaaa. I know our dreeeamms will nevvaaaar diee, in conjunction with littlefoot and petri (oh that sexeh pteri babeh) was too much for me to take. Not to mention that this was the song my 2nd grade chorus performed.
Selena - Yeah I didn't know much about the Tijuana singer.. but the "Dreaming of You" song with her death was pretty intense.
Motorcycle Diaries - Just the part where dude is swimming. I couldn't help but egg him on passionately.
He Got Game/Field of Dreams/Lion King - Same exact reason as bdreason has listed.
What Dreams May Come - The cinematography and the concept were simply beautiful.
Schindler's List - Just like the poster previously said.. when he receives the gift and starts saying "I could've done more." HOly f*ck
Neverending Story - Just the whole vibe was full of fantasy.
All Dogs Go To Heaven - The relationship with Charlie and the little girl was too much too handle.

Yup, great movie. That is another movie that I saw in one of my last days of high-school senior year alongside Dead Poets Society. My teacher was bawling at the end; I think that movie meant something personal to her from her own life, and it was an emotional movie to begin with. I was choking up, could just barely talk for like 10 mins. Also saw one other movie alongside those 2 that I can't recall right now..
