So how is the government able to do this? Who passed this law? Because I don't remember any vote on any piracy type laws in any elections in my area.
It's just bullshit IMO that they're taking down sites at their own disgression. Soon enough every ****ing site on the internet will be deemed "unsafe" to those corporate people, this is a capitalistic, free country!
I just pulled it up and it said it's been seized
im perplexed because I go to the site and get the regular website, not the redirect like with ATDHE.net.. maybe eventually it will do that to mine also..

U.S. Resume Controversial File-Sharing Domain Seizures
http://torrentfreak.com/us-resume-file-sharing-domain-seizures-110201/
Rojadirecta is an unusual target for several reasons, not least because the site has been declared legal twice by Spanish courts. The site’s owners have previously fought a three year legal battle in Spain, which they won, but a single seizure warrant from US authorities has made this victory pointless.

they will switch domains (outside US) like sites seized previously have done
How the Gov't took down websites w/out due process (http://www.40tech.com/2010/12/21/how-the-u-s-government-was-able-to-seize-bittorrent-domains-without-due-process/)
Basically they told the Judge what the MPAA said, and the judge signed off on it w/out allowing the sites to state their case.

Just f*cking bullshit that government officials are declaring themselves to shut down the sites without any voting process on it, or the owner of those sites being able to make their case to defend their site.
We don't need to turn into a socialistic type (government controlled) country with garbage like this.
Sorry, but it's a political debate honestly, and that's just my opinion.

I was on here posting links to articles when these bills were being passed giving these powers to the government. It got hardly any replies. That's typical of today's political climate: when important decisions are made by politicians being pushed by corporate america, none of the citizens are pushing back because they are too busy forcing a quarter-pounder down their throat. And then when they find out something in their lives that is actually impacted by this, then they get upset.

The beauty of the internet is anonymity. You take away that and people on the internet become accountable for their actions. Invasion of privacy? I don't think so because people are clearly breaking laws here. Downloading, streaming, torrenting, you name it, it's all illegal. I think obama actually called for internet ID's a few months ago if I'm not mistaken.
I don't see an easy solution to this madness, but I'll enjoy streaming and downloading in the meantime

There will always be streams. There are more sites than just rojadirecta and atdhe, although they always come through when I cant find links to a game. Also, the sites will comeback eventually.
I hope Rojadirecta gets back up soon. This case is an absolute travesty.
They only seized .org, everything else is up and was never down.

All I know is that this won't end. If they take down 10 sites, 15 more will pop up. 5 more will be just to revolt. Homeland Security has dropped the gauntlet, the piracy world will pick up the gauntlet. The only way to stop it is by completely censoring the internet entirely like China does. Otherwise, homeland security will not win this war. They can try and will try, but somebody new will always step to the plate. :confusedshrug:

Yep. I think there are still a lot of Chinese people that quietly breaking through The Great Firewall everyday there.
Even before the Internet, piracy were everywhere. Remember bootleg albums?
I really wonder how bad is the censor in China. Since USA is not as much censored, we dunno how much different is China. We don't even know how hard it is to get past the firewall, maybe through a vpn?
Dunno if vpns are banned in China; I remember we used to find way to get on youtube in HS. Youtube was banned in HS, but it wasn't too hard to bypass it with some knowledge of vpn or 3rd party web-browser within browser that you can find through google. Even the teachers didn't know how to do it and most students didn't know. That is the only type of censor I ever had to deal with, and it was easy to bypass it with some knowledge.

Because, we're not talking about morality, we're talking about a legal issue. I was just wondering who can hold court over this particular case...
And from a moral standpoint, I see no wrong in broadcasting channels that are not available in certain regions because of media monopoly

you can get Al Jazeera other places. i don't think it had anything to do with that. BTW, why would the US government not want to show the demonstrations? The american public doesn't have a hard and fast opinion of the situation that needs to be protected.

channelsurfing AND first row are down. i'm glad atdhe is back. i use it mostly for alternative commentary in NBA games, wrestling PPVs and football games that are blacked out or on NFL network.
if i were these big networks and channels, i'd make on-demand streams. i'd seriously pay for that. i've paid for two ring of honor streams on gofightlive. the major selling point was it allowing me to watch it multiple times. netflix was ahead of its time and look how well they've done. streaming is going to happen. companies should change their business models to suit customer needs. if the quality is good, people will pay, period. like i said, i wouldn't mind paying a reasonable fee for this. not everyone can buy cable or digital packages that allow them to just order PPVs through a phone call or push of a button.

Depends on where you live though. I live in Holland and they have just 1 sports channel which shows a few NBA games every week (and it's expensive/has horrible commentary). I could get leaguepass, though...
Also, No channel shows MMA (they have the ultimate fighter on though). I need websites like ATDHE to follow the sports I like.
