He can't be taller than 5'10" he just can't be. He looks like a midget out there.

It's kinda weird. Nelson have 2 draft measurements. He was measured at 5'10" in 2003. He was later measured at 5'11" in 2004.

Anybody know why they have to lie about players height? :confusedshrug:

It's not pro wrestling, the NBA doesn't need to hype up a gimmick or anything like the WWE does.

I remember before the start of the 2008 NBA draft everyone was saying Michael beasley was like 7'0 with shoots and 6'11 w/o them. Then the measurements came and he was listed as 6'8.5 with shoes and 6'7 w/o them : lol

I think that also hurt his draft stock

It's always been done in basketball, but they aren't lying by a lot at all in this case. Nelson was measured at 5'11" in 2004 w/o shoes, 6'0" with shoes. I can't think of a way he could cheat when getting measured at the combine to be an inch or two taller than he really is.

At worst, he's a legit 5'10" w/o shoes which would still put him close to 6'0" in shoes.

So all(or most of) the players height are listed with shoes then? I wasn't aware of that, I always thought it was without shoes.

I'm not sure why it should matter. If they're all measured without shoes, it would still be same difference in length. Using the two PF/C Utah players as example:
Millsap is listed 6'8, without shoes he's probably 6'6/6'7ish
Jefferson is listed 6'10, but w/o shoes he's probably 6'8/6'9ish

Millsap would still be two inches shorter than Jefferson, with shoe or without shoes.

I hope I made sense there...LOL :lol

Yeah, that's how it's always been done. Or at least for as long as I can remember. I played D2 ball, and we had an "official measurements" day and we didn't even do heights without shoes. Coach just said, "you play in shoes so your height might as well be listed at how tall you are in shoes."

I am friends with him and I do his tattoos. He is absolutely 5'11 1/2 measured without shoes on. We are the same height. I think because he's so muscular it makes him look short.

Really? I thought he was 5'10" max. He looks like he'd be quite a bit shorter than Iverson who I believe is 6 feet. I'll definitely take your word on it, though. During the Knicks/Mavs games, Walt Frazier was laughing at JJ Barea's 6 foot listing, he kind of has similar proportions to Nelson, but looks even shorter. It's kind of funny that I see these guys on the court and think they look short considering I'm 5'8" and would look like a complete midget on the court. I remember the first NBA player that I saw up close in person was Latrell Sprewell when he played for the Knicks and he's not tall by any stretch by NBA standards, but looked like a giant.

My only problem is that the heights never get updated. With players in the NBA being so young now, most of them are still growing when they enter the NBA. LeBron, for example, looks like he's grown at least an inch or so since his rookie year. He looks at least 6'9 in shoes. And Durant looks damn-near 7-feet.

No really. Me and his girl were talking about it a while ago and she was talking about measuring him in his bare feet. Nah in real life he's a regular height guy but in the basketball world he looks short. Part of it is that he's so muscular that it makes him look short. But yeah, we're the same height and I'm definitely 5'11.5"

Well I know Iverson said pubically a while back that he is under 6'0 and that he isn't 165 pounds soaking wet, and that the league just always had him at those measurements so he wouldn't look drastically short.

I don't think Nelson is taller then Iverson. And I'm not even sure he's that much taller then Nate. I'd guess 5'10. 5'11 tops.

I'd say 90% of the players are at least an inch shorter than what they're listed at. I met many players and this is definitely the case. Very few use their barefoot heights.

Nelson is the Jay Cutler of the NBA. Inconsistent yet talented, and has to get bailed out by (a) great defensive player(s) when he f*cks up, but his team still makes the conference finals.
