But I'm relieved really for the Utah fans being one myself for the last few years. It has been unbelievable how he has not allowed AK47 to ball his way, thus closing him out. He's just some mug from Indiana. I think meybe now they can get playoffs or win.

Possibly, I doubt he would join another team now anyway. The man is 68 years old and being a head coach is a stress on your mental health and family. He might not have a ring but anyone who knows an ounce of basketball will know how great he was/is as a coach.

SLC Dunk guys seem to think Deron had something to do with it, guess he'd been making subtle jabs at Sloan all year.
Between an owner that apparently won't spend money, losing a coaching legend, and the best PG in the league bolting in 2 years probably, the Jazz may've just entered a very long era of irrelevance.

This is quite the shocker. Sad to see him go. Great coach and great mind. He really got the most he possibly could out of the the teams he coached. I think he got the most out of Deron and Boozer given Boozer inept consistency to be injured and their total lack of size. He was right there with Stockton and Malone but MJ stood in his way. The guy has been around forever, and at his age, a year round bball season takes its strain. I am still a bit perplexed on the timing of this...was he just tired of it all?

****, we were talking about him possibly quitting in the Jazz VS Bulls thread, but figured it'd all likely be bullshit.
Ty Corbin appears to be have named the interim head coach which is good. Hopefully they offer him the gig permenately cause he'll get a job elsewhere if they don't. As for the extension, reportedly Sloan signed it over a month ago, but it was only announced recently, but it was still never a guarantee he'd return next year.
Also looks like this may be only the beginning of changes. So I'd look for someone like AK to be traded also.

Great show of appreciation from ownership for a legendary coach: focusing on the wants and requests of a PG unproven on the big stage and ignoring the input of the people who put you in a position of relevance in the first place.
It's going to be ridiculous if Williams splits anyways after forcing the hand of the front office and in any way contributing to the departure of Sloan.

Idk, but if Deron really did want him gone, then he really has canceled out his positive impact by taking away one of Utah's biggest advantages. Really, the only reason Utah was even in the game last night was because of Sloan's coaching, getting Kirilenko so many good shots against Deng to get him going, getting them to play Carlos nearly perfectly.
I even get why Deron would be pissed at Sloan. Jefferson hasn't been part of the offense at all really because it seems he can't really figure out the offense, but even then it's just not worth it at all. It's one of the worst things that has happened to the Jazz in a long while.

Maybe it's not the worst thing in the world.
With Sloans track record, I don't see how management wouldn't side with him.new people in place... they don't recognize his time as the jazz coach or don't care about the past... just the future... which is ok, not saying they made the right move but at least they are looking forward..

If thats true, Deron will get tons of haters and will lose a lot of respect over the next days
Sloan needed to go after the Jazz were swept in 08-09 by the Lakers.
Any other franchise wouldve fired him after a few years of showing no improvement. He was kept onboard out of loyalty, but as you can see loyalty doesnt mean that much in sports when you arent producing results.
Its a great move and shows that the Jazz Organization is finally wanting to start a new era and achieve something they couldnt for the last 23 years with Sloan.
Dont get me wrong Sloan is one of the greatest coaches of all time, but every coach loses something. Hence why there are so many coaching changes. Jerry Lost is after 07-08

I guess it turns out Deron is a *****.
The yahoo article isnt accurate at all.
Someone give me a link to an interview or article Quoting Deron Williams saying something about his teammates. He never threw any of them under the bus.
He was frustrated with Sloan being stubborn about the line up and not listening to anyone.
Jerry has always been a "my way or the highway" type of guy.
Williams was frustrated with the Lack of the Change. He wants to win and he knows the way its been going the past 6 years he has been playing for the Jazz that the old way wasnt working.
Deron stood up for a team he wants to succeed.
With Ty Corbin and Jeff Hornecek (possibly) coaching this team, i expect this team to be young and play loose. You could tell easily that new players (al jefferson, raja bell, elson) were more worried about offensive rotations/cuts then going out there and playing basketball.

Sloan was pissed about D Williams calling his own play, and I think it was one Dwill muffed up on too. Apparently, SLoan doesn't have direct access to hollar at Dwill anymore, or at least not freely. I think O'Conner has to be present or some crap. Sloan had just signed a one year extension. My guess is that Sloan and the assistant probably tried to give Dwill some heat (lol, thru Charlie Vill's tweeter account and got caught - joke in parentheses) or broke some type of truce there.
Sloan had lost ability to reach his two potential stars (Jeff and Deron) so he could no longer be effective. Remarkable he could last that long tho. Remember he was trying to turn Deron into a two guard at one point. And he did convert Al Jefferson into a scrub. He needs a good point guard where ever he lands.

Wouldn't be totally against that as the Jazz get a bigman and someone to replace AK who's a decent enough 3pt shooter. Plus they're both expiring so you don't have to worry about long term salary cap implications like you do with Kaman. You could still start Jefferson at the 5, but Foster would be a decent guy off the bench for 15-20 minutes (Better then Elson and Fes anyway)

Honestly, I'm kinda glad Sloan is gone because it means Ty is the head coach which is what I wanted and he most likely would have gotten a head coaching gig elsewhere if Sloan stayed until 2013. I bet they were fighting through out the season. Jefferson took about a month to get rolling. Raja Bell was stinking up the joint for 10 straight games and was never benched. It's been a rocky season.

Jerry's too much of a professional to come out and point fingers and say why he's really stepping down. I mean damn he hasn't even told his team. This has D-Will written all over it. Be careful what you wish for. You might get it. Utah's gonna crash and burn and watch D-Will bolt anyway when his contract's up.

Can one be eligible to do even though you left halfway through the season?
Then again in his case its a lifetime achievement award.
I'm sure D-Will is going to be hated more than Boozer.

I think so too. He hasn't been the happier camper, not base on his interviews.
