View Full Version : Scrubs = Underrated!

I've recently bought the first few season of scrubs and feel that this show is underrated.
The casting is perfect. It has that emotional twist to make you wonder about things in life. IMO the only show better then this comedy wise is Seinfeld.
What are the ish posters thoughts on Scrubs?
A Scrubs fan, especially of the early seasons. Even at that I thought it was uneven. I didn't like the predictable "JD - Elliott, friends or lovers" subplot that's run through so many sitcoms.
These last couple years were kinda sad. Surest way to wear out your welcome is to stick around too long.

I am on season 4 right now. From what i have heard though it really turns into a soap opera.

i like it and at the same time recognize the fact that it's formulaic, cheesy, and entirely paper thin with its life lesson endings. i felt the same way you did for the first few seasons, but by i think the 4th or 5th, i was super bored and stopped watching it. i dig zach braff, i think he's a pretty funny nerdy dude, but the same droning relationships and story arcs are relentlessly regurgitated to the point of making me regurgitate my food.
it's pretty well made and deserves some props, but in no way is it anywhere near the second best comedy next to seinfeld. das outlandish unsubstantiated hizznit ma snicca.

I watch about 4 comedy's ever in my life. HIMYM scrubs Seinfeld and Modern family. SO i have exaggerated saying it was the 2nd best since i have not seen but out of those 4 i think its 2nd.

those are all pretty good sitcoms, just nowhere near the cream of the crop. but I'd say giving Scrubs that second seed, slightly above How I Met Your Mother, is appropriate. haven't seen much Modern Family but what I have watched puts it on the bottom rung in a contest between those four.

I love scrubs. One of my favorite shows
Underrated? It was/is a popular show from what I can tell.
Scrubs is funny, but if you've seen one you've seen them all.

you guys hate The Big Bang Theory, right? it stinks and i can't be the only one on the green side of the fence. i'm having a facebook conversation with a buddy who otherwise has pretty solid taste, with the exception of his love for Scott's recent Robin Hood pre-prequel, and he's a huge fan. i don't get it. the whole thing is bullsh*t network crap with cliche jokes that have already been done in every nerd movie and tv show ever produced. it's literally nothing new, and it's done much worse than its predecessors. so please, tell me some of you stand behind me and don't cater to this crap like so many others. please please please.

I've never even watched it. It never appeal to me or even seemed funny so I just stayed away.
I liked Scrubs tho. I always like catching a rerun or two when they're on.

Ya, it's horrible, but so is HIMYM.
How you can have that garbage above Modern Family is beyond me. Simply because you seem to be quite smart.........and yet you said garbage above an actual funny show.

Like the majority of "comedies" currently on the networks, that steaming pile of dung looks more like a parody of a sitcom. Same with HIMYM.
In comparison, the loathsome 'Two & A Half Men" is hilarious. But only in that comparison.

i've watched one full episode of Modern Family on an airplane, and interspersed clips of HIMYM on tv and youtube every so often. i really have no strong inclination to put one over the other. i do love Ed O'neill though. maybe i'd feel stronger if i gave either show more of a shot, but frankly, i doubt that'll be happening any time soon. there's too much great watchable material out there to waste time on even above average mediocre sitcoms, unless you're just flipping through cable, which i don't have.

ha, i agree completely. Two and a Half Men used to be my most dogged network sitcom until i found others more worthy of my hate. i've never really gotten the same putrid vibe from HIMYM as you guys though, again having only seen glimpses here and there. maybe it's because i was an avid Friends fan as a high school **** and watched its sappy comedy (some of which was legitimately funny) far too much.
I can't stand all of Dr. Cox's condescending intellectual dribble. It shows a lot of "mental *********ion" on the part of the writers (is that the right term?).
I'm sick of being entertained by super rude people in general. It started with "You Aree the weakest link.... goodbye." Then everyone loved the angry Simon on American Idol. Then Dr. Cox. I have no desire to be entertained by an arrogant prick talking down to everyone, at least not anymore. Can't say they all haven't made me laugh at some point...

The only network comedies worth watching are Modern Family and Community.

Never watched Community but Modern Family is hilarious. My favorite character on the show is easily Phil.

I keep hearing people whose opinion I respect talking about 'Community'. I saw three eps the first season and found it close to unwatchable.
What have they done to tweak the show since?

Early on, it was kinda funny. It's a decent show that actually portrays what it's like to be an intern/resident in a hospital. As the show progress, it became more of a drama with forced humor. One of the more underrated things about it is that even thought it's a sitcom, things don't go back to a norm the next episode.

It was hit or miss in season one imo. Had some great episodes (paintball, Halloween) and some that were just too dry.
This season has been more consistent. The D&D episode from two weeks ago (I think) was bomb.

I went through a moderately sized Scrubs phase. There was a time a few years ago where it was playing for two consecutive hours each night on Comedy Central and WGN so I went pretty big for a while.
Like Ridonks mentioned, I totally recognized it wasn't the epitome of television programming. And like Joe, I wasn't huge on Dr. Cox's rants. His character always felt forced to me. I remember being surprised that so many fans disagreed with this sentiment.
Otherwise though, I just had fun with it. It was a show that I could enjoy that my girlfriends also did not object to. It was a pretty solid scenario in that regard. I think I got a little burnt out on Scrubs after watching so much of it. I have a few seasons on DVD though, so I'm sure it'll return soon.
Lastly, sorry for this, but I haven't become obsessed with Community. I usually watch it pretty frequently and I don't hate it, but I haven't felt the power yet. I'm still an Office guy.

The reason why i hate Big bang theory is the Laugh track in that show is horrible. No matter what they say the laugh track goes on. It could be something barely anyone could understand and the laugh track will go on for 5 minutes. Ridiculous show although that blonde girl is FINE!
Two and a half men i like but again the Laugh track gets ridiculous i mostly watch it for Jake now. Just to see how jake ends up.

The best moments of Scrubs compares to a lot of great dramas. Dr.Cox in the rabies episode was acting his ass off.
