Mortal Kombat is koming home in April 2011. In just about four short months players will be able to master all new fatalities and combos, and on the PS3 take Kratos for a spin against their favorite Mortal Kombat fighters. Also launching alongside the the standard edition of the game are two special edition versions, the Kollector’s Edition and Tournament Edition.

The Kollector’s Edition will come packed with the game, a collectible art book, DLC for Mortal Kombat Klassic Costume Skins and avatar costumes, along with Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines. The Tournament Edition will come with the game, DLC, and a fight stick. The Tournament Edition will be limited to 20,000 copies in North America.

The game, Kollector’s Edition, and Tournament Edition should be available at most retailers. There are, however, some retailer-specific pre-order bonuses. Those who pre-order at GameStop will get the original Scorpion Fatality and the Klassic Scorpion Playable Character Skin. Best Buy pre-orders come with the original Sub-Zero Fatality and the Klassic Sub-Zero Playable Character Skin. Amazon pre-orders then get the original Reptile Fatality and the Klassic Reptile Playable Character Skin.

It was between this and MvC3 for me.

Mortal Kombat definitely looks like it's heading in the right direction and it looks amazing. But with it's past couple results, I have way more faith in Capcom to deliver on the gameplay.

I still might get this sometime but definitely not an insta-buy.

This game will be nothing like the past couple Mortal Kombat games. More funding for this one under Warner Brothers ownership and back to everything people loved about Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3. It's a safe buy if you loved the older MK's.

That was the plan before Midway went broke. That idea you're talking about got thrown out and they ended up making Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, which wasn't exactly what the creative team wanted. Midway hoped to hit big with the help of DC characters like Batman, Superman, and The Joker...obviously their plan failed. That's happens when you make a bad game.

When Warner Bros. ultimately bought Midway's assets, they decided to reboot the franchise instead of scraping all characters. In my opinion, the route they're going with this game just seems perfect. The roster is awesome right now, and there's still some characters unannounced and promised DLC.

The focus of the game is supposedly the multiplayer, so hopefully it's good. I heard some talk about being able to give someone "Respect points" in this game, which sounds like an interesting idea for a fighting game multiplayer.

That's the kind of innovation I was looking for. :bowdown: to the team making this game. It looks like it could be the type of game that could bring back fighting games properly and encourage others in the genre to step it up. This needs to have come out yesterday, been waiting for this game for a long time.

I already have the Kollectors Edition pre-ordered at Gamestop. I put my pre-order in the day after the special editions were announced. Thought about getting the Tournament Edition, but I'm better playing with a controller and the Arcade Stick would just become a decoration.

I really wanted to pre-order the one from Amazon since it comes with an exclusive costume and fatality for Reptile(Gamestop has Scorpion exclusives), but I want my game at mid-night instead of waiting for it to ship.

When I heard the achievement list got revealed, I didn't read any of them to avoid spoilers.

That new trailer is nice. Some brief unseen fatalities in there. Heard about the demo on PSN Plus? MK is doing everything exclusive for the PS3, it's annoying. I have access to a PS3, but who the hell has PSN Plus? I know my cousin doesn't. Shouldn't be too long before it's on regular PSN and X-Box LIVE hopefully.

EDIT: According to the official MK twitter, the demo will be out on regular PSN next week. No word on the 360, but I'm assuming some time after the regular PSN demo is released.

New Zealand, Australia's neighbor has rated MK and will allow it to be sold. It's a lot easier for Aussie's to get the game now. Saw this listing on the site where I read the news, this place supposedly ships to Australia for about the equivalent of $4 American. Game came out of nowhere. I didn't know MK was coming until an article a few weeks ago. Fighting games are coming back, i have my SF, MV vs. CP sold well (even though im not a fan). Give me a real KOF (and we have MK) and i'll be all set.

Australia is looking really pathetic right now. They clearly have a huge vendetta against MK. I hear that their rating system is so strict because of the original Mortal Kombats, so that would explain a lot. Yeah, except for Quan Chi. I added him to the list because when the achievement list came out, there was one for unlocking Quan Chi. I will add all the characters as they come out. The boss characters in Shao Kahn and Goro may not be playable though. I know for sure Goro isn't.

MK did my guy Nightwolf properly in this game once again. Every character is looking amazing. This game is going to have some good depth. Each character is so different.

From what I've heard, I'm pretty sure it's going to be just like MK Vs. DC's story mode. You go through the story as each of the selectable characters. It's just some scenes and then goes into a fight.

I was kinda wishing MK would go back to the Konquest style of story mode. I'm sure most don't know what that is, but it was part of the 3D fighting games.

The way they're going to do it now is good because it forces you to learn something with each character. It's good for finding your favorites through the story mode. When I get the game, I'm going straight to the story. I'm not going online until I'm really comfortable and unlock the unlockable characters.

Very cool idea. I remember them talking about this mode without calling it by "King of the Hill" before the game was even available for pre-order. I'm glad they went through with it. Being able to watch fights and give feedback is sweet. This really could be the game to revive the interest in the fighting game genre.

Yeah, there always are people who get games early. I saw MK9 in stock already at a local shop over here. I already have my Kollectors Edition pre-order payed off at gamestop, so I can just wait until 12AM on the 19th. I really like experiencing the buzz at the midnight release also.

As for no exclusives, I just want the game. PS3 can have Kratos and his arena, I don't give one shit about him anyway. Never been one to really care if my favorite games come with exclusive content and such. Not getting the demo for the 360 sucked, but I have a Ps3 too, so I get to play it anyway.

this game is doooope. i went to gamestop, and a bunch of high school kids were trying to play on expert and couldn't beat the first guy. after a while i couldn't take it anymore, so i strolled up there and knocked off half of the arcade on my first shot with scorpion. turned around after i lost and had a crowd watching me.

The Kollectors Edition is worth every f*cking penny! I have my game installing to my harddrive right now. The bookend figurines look great and are really good quality. The art book is sweet. The packaging and the art is stunning. And I got the retro Ermac and Scorpion costumes. The Scorpion code for his suit and fatality was on the final receipt. I wasn't expecting an Ermac code though. Okay guys, I pretty much messed with everything just a little bit. And apologies for the mega long post. Hopefully I don't lose your interest.

First off, let me get this off my chest. This game is so much better than what I was expecting, and my expectations were very high. The fighting engine is so deep, as was promised. Every MK game I have picked up in the past decade has been relatively easy for me to learn quickly, but this game makes me feel like a noob. It's so new and fresh, the fatality are amazingly sick, the environments will take your breath, and the competition on Expert difficulty is HIGHLY competitive again.

The Krypt is very demented. This game is not meant for the frail of mind or anyone easily sickened by grusome images. The Krypt is huge and separated into diffent type of section. There you unlock stuff with coin you earn whenever you fight or complete challenges.

I've only played into the second chapter of the story mode, but all I have to say is, MK is definitely back in a big way.

And for the bad part, but definitely expected, the online is absolutely unplayable right now. Big time lag and other glitchy things, but that's usually the story for most big time releases for the first week.

There were over 100 people at the Gamestop midnight release, so I'm imagining this game is booming in sales and the servers are getting swamped quickly. The developers and WB promised a lot of support for this game, and I believe it after all the marketing they have done and work they put into this game.

If they can get the online up and running perfectly, I will safely be able to say that this is the best Mortal Kombat game, and the best fighting game of all time. Just my opinion, so if there's any SF fanboys around I mean no disrespect.

I completely agree with Undisputed on this one. I've been playing Mortal Kombat for over 12 years (still have every single one minus that retarded special forces game), and this is without a doubt my favorite. The controls are fantastic, the graphics are stellar, and it really takes me back to my MK3 days. The only problem I have with it is that it's wayyyy too easy. Even on Expert Mode, I beat half of the arcade the first time I had ever played it on my first continue. You can totally tell who the MK noobs are and who has played it for a while...the duck and uppercut technique when an opponent jumps towards you is too easy to exploit, even the CPU doesn't defend against it like in the early days. Wiped the floor with everyone who played it at GameStop and my buddies who came to my house last night.

Haven't tried online mode yet, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

i beat the game with a friend on tag team arcade mode. we used a scorpion/sub-zero tandem and we got our own ending that covered both of us and alluded to the rivalry. I wonder if there's an ending for every combination of fighters...

Ugh damnit guys. All the reviews and you guys talking here are really swaying me to buy MK now. I already have and love both SSF4 (with Arcade Edition DLC on the way soon) and MvC3. I don't know how I would find time to play and try to master (but likely fail) all 3 games.

- I like how the reviews are all stressing how great of a single player experience it is. I Also like the fact that it has good combat mechanics and isn't just some unbalanced gorefest that comes down to people using the same 2-3 characters or no way to counter projectile spamming etc.

Yes Shao Kahn is cheap as hell the way to counter his cheapness it to use your own cheap moves.Never fight him straight up cuz you will lose,instead run from him and wait until he taunts you.

Like i said i have only played one online game but overall it seems pretty balanced to me the fight mechanics are great.

Fighting games usually have a nice long lifespan (with many add-ons and DLC gouging) so I'm sure I'll be going back to all 3 games over the next few years. I've always been a Street Fighter fan and haven't been too involved with MK since Ultimate MK 3 but MK2 still is up there among the greatest fighting games ever.

The online has been absolutely unplayable for me. It's the only downer for this game so far, but I imagine the servers are getting slammed and the lag issues will be solved within a week or so. I'm running standard Comcast cable internet, it's not the fastest but I've never had this bad of a lag problem with other games. I'm not going to play this game online consistently until it's running better.

Still, I've been having a load of fun with this game playing with friends locally and with the story mode. I don't need the online right now anyway, I still have a lot to learn in this game. I'm still getting readjusted to the 2D fighting considering I haven't been into a 2D fighting game since the 90's. I played a lot of the 3D MK's over the past decade, so it's going to take a several days or so until I'm comfortable.

This has to be the best fighting engine in an MK game, in my opinion. Every character I play with has their uses, imbalance is not a concern with this deep and unique roster. I've already played this game for 10+ hours and feel like I'm only scratching the surface.

Just went through the tutorial to get a hang of MK controls. It's so weird playing a fighter with a block button again. I'm so used to just pressing back to block. I think this will actually help with my blocking in the Capcom games since I have to now make a more conscious effort to do it. I mapped the buttons on my stick similarly to MvC3 since that had 4 attacks too. Gotta remember to keep my thumb on the block button though.

Really cool game though. Fluid controls and some of the combos aren't too easy to mash but also fair.

Awesome game so far. Went through tutorial mode, about 30 levels of the tower so far and a bit of story mode. This game has some very slick presentation. It seems to be a great value too. They really put a ton of effort making sure that it's crammed with interesting stuff to do. Compared to MvC3 where it's a very bare-bones experience, albeit with a fantastic (and probably better) fighting system.

My one complaint is that so far, there isn't TOO much to differentiate the skills and styles between many of the characters IMO. Most of them "feel" and move about the same way. But it's just a different game than MvC3 (I keep comparing them but both have come out this year). There is room for both in gamers library.

Personally, I love it. But if you go on Amazon.com, people are slamming the hell out of it in reviews.

It's been extremely helpful for the Krypt and learning combo's/moves for the story mode. Only complaint from me is that there is no mention of babalities, Liu Kang's intermediate and expert combo section has the correct pictures but the button inputs are for Kano(biggest problem), and that the "Fatality gallery and warrior evolution" part that they advertised isn't anywhere to be found. Regardless if there are some incorrect things that I have missed or missing content from the description, I got this guide mainly for a keep sake and to help through the story since you play with various characters. Well worth my twenty dollars.

It works for me man. All I've been needing is the paragraph's on strategy with players and one or two chain combos and I pretty much go from there. The errors like the typo's on a few fatalities and Liu Kang's intermediate and expert combo's being Kano's are definitely inexcusable, but otherwise it's got some great content in the book. I only payed $20.21 for it, unlike a lot of those who paid $34.99, so I'm not going to harp on something that has helped me out big time.

I feel like I got my money's worth. Those corrections are nice too, and I already printed it out. Like I said, this book was bought by me just to get started and as a keepsake, not to become pro at Mortal Kombat. Practice will accomplish that, not a game guide. I don't even need a game guide, really. Everything is free online anyway.

Just unlocked Quan Chi and finished the story line. Damn that story line was good. There were some amazing scenes in there, (SEMI-SPOILER)especially that scene with Nightwolf and Sindel when they both disappear. By far my favorite scene in the game.

From going through the story mode, my early favorites are Kabal, Smoke, Cyber Sub-Zero, Jade, Kung Lao, and Kitana. Been having a hard time getting a lot of success with Nightwolf as I have in the past, but he's one of those hard to learn characters in the game. Now that I'm done with story mode, I can really start to learn the characters that I want to.

That's f*cking unbelievable. Stryker is my least favorite character, and probably the worst character to fight Kahn with, let alone fighting two people before him.

I just saw the last challenge on YouTube, and that will make me rip my hair out whenever I get there. It's still going to be a while before I get to the upper levels anyway. I got to 30 last night, and I'm planning on just chipping away at it throughout the year. I'm in no rush to finish it.

Those are some super classics! Good choices. I believe pre-ordering from somewhere gave some people that Sub Zero head and spine rip in MK9, and Kano still has his heart ripping fatality. It's funny hearing Ed Boon's voice as the voice of MK, it sounds so low budget and cheap compared to the later titles. :oldlol:

I did the dumbest thing ever accidentally in an online match. I was Nightwolf, the other guy was Scorpion(EVERYONE picks Scorpion). At the VS. screen where you can put codes in I tapped two buttons and blindly put in the code to make myself start the match at 50% energy. Still won the match in three rounds though, thankfully. Whatever you guys do, be sure not to put in 1,1,0 at the versus screen.

But back to Scorpion, I don't want to see his ass in another Mortal Kombat game, which is unlikely. They need to permanently kill that SOB. It's like every MK game I have played online everyone flocks to Scorpion because he's always extremely overpowered.

Just get in close, jump over, uppercut while his back is still turned performing an attack and repeat over and over. That's why there's nothing like playing a real person. You could tell obvious patterns during some of the fights because the AI can "read" your inputs. It knows you are throwing a fireball the very moment the animation begins.

i just stayed back, ducked under all the arrows, when he is throwing the hammer, just teleport and do the FK,FK,BK combo

then jump back and repeat. you can also teleport and combo him when he is taunting you. as long as you dont mess up, you should win easily. i know i flawless victoried on of the rounds

What I hate about the bosses is that shield that they constantly use so you can't knock them down. It's so frustrating trying to do combo's on them. The only way to really beat the bosses is like you said, timing jumps, drop punches, and uppercuts.

I'm glad the lag is dying down a bit now on the 360. I was still getting noticeable lag last night, but it was playable for once. The servers were shut down for a while yesterday, so hopefully the lag decrease is due to them fixing things up.

As for PSN, I want to get on also. I got MK for both systems. I prefer the X-Box, but a lot of friends of mine have PS3's, which is why I bought one a few months back. I haven't even got to play my PS3 version because PSN got smacked around by some hackers.

I really like how the story mode gives you a taste of most of the characters. To start of with, I think I'm going to go with Kitana and Kung Lao. I really liked using those two. Scorpion too but everyone is going to pick Scorpion.

Played it last night, game is great. Finally, if you've been waiting for a next MK2 or Mk3, it's here.

I've never liked fighting games on Xbox or 360 because they tried to show off that the game is 3d by doing terrible angles, and it was just confusing and didn't play well.

It's all about the side angle. The X-Ray is a great touch, and the fatalities are fun. I recommend getting this.

1 problem I have is that you have to buy a code to play online if you're using a used copy. My brother let me borrow it, and I can't play on Xbox Live because the game comes with 1 code. Total BS, I'm not paying 10 more bucks for online features.

That was a really cheap move by the people who made this game.

The game comes with a code to play online. So every copy gets 1 code for online play. If you use the copy on a different 360, you have to enter a new code for that system. They cost 10 dollars.

Toys 'R' Us has listed (via GameInformer poster Camoufrage) the first DLC for Mortal Kombat as releasing this Wednesday, May 4, on both Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network. Unfortunately, it's likely the PSN won't be available so soon.

On a related note, the very same Toys 'R' Us posting lists the game as on sale for USD $39.99 through May 7.

The first DLC add-on for Mortal Kombat will include additional playable characters, including Kenshi and Scarlet. Pricing is still unconfirmed.

I watch more matches than I play online. The lag usually turns me off after watching a few people play for a while, or being in a laggy match myself. I haven't played any ranked matches for that reason. In player matches I'm 40-15, and about five of those losses came from being the king in KOH and leaving after the room empties. When you are the king in KOH and you leave, it counts as a loss whether people are in the room or not, which is really stupid. The only way you should get a loss is if there's a rage quit in the middle of a match.

On a side note, Liu Kang is a f*cking monster in this game. He's emerging as my go to guy in yet another MK. Such a badass character. Earthrealm fighters FTW. ;)

At the PDP Mortal Kombat tournament this weekend in Las Vegas I got a chance to briefly sit down with Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat where he mentioned that the competitive fighting game will be receiving some DLC and a patch later this month.

He didn't go too much in depth regarding the DLC, only mentioning that it would focus on the character Skarlett and that we can also expect some free stuff. Perhaps more costumes and stages?
Boon also mentioned that they plan on releasing patch note updates on themortalkombat.com so that competitive players can keep up to date on all of the changes that are going in to the game, as there are tons of tweaks to be made here and there.

The Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection will sell for $10, and feature the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

"We are very excited to finally have the first three Mortal Kombat games available in one download package for long-time and new fans to play," says Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon in a statement.

Finished Challenge Tower! It was quite the journey. I knocked off challenge 262-300 in about an hour and fourty-five minutes.

Now I can really start honing my skill with challenge tower and story mode out of the way. All I have to do now is get a new controller. My control with the transforming D-pad broke, the D-pad literally just came off. Cheap piece of shit. Since I love the PS3 controller since the D-pad has separate buttons, I'm going with the Razer Onza this time. I've heard it's not really good for fighting games, but if I can make this piece of shit defective standard controller work that I'm now left with, the Razer D-Pad will feel like heaven compared.

Agreed. They need to slow down his shadow throw's speed and make the recovery time longer. It's ridiculously annoying how some people use him online. I lost a match two days ago from some guy constantly spamming the shadow's and teleport. Never felt so helpless in MK. :oldlol: I beat him in the rematch with Smoke though. First one I had Liu Kang, and it's impossible to stop that shadow BS with him. I have learned to never use Liu Kang against Noob if I can help it, or any character that doesn't have a teleport.

Perhaps inspired by the route Rockstar took with L.A. Noire's downloadable content, Warner Bros. today announced a "Season Pass" for the Xbox 360 version of Mortal Kombat.
Four characters will be made available through DLC in the coming weeks, starting with Skarlet (featured in the trailer above) on June 21. She'll be followed by Kenshi, Rain, and a fourth, unannounced new character. They all include their own move sets, two fatalities, and an arcade story mode ending. They'll be sold individually for $5 (400 Microsoft Points) each unless you opt for the Season Pass, which will only be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The Season Pass is set for release alongside Skarlet on June 21 for $15 (1,200 Microsoft Points) and entitles you to all four DLC characters. You're essentially being asked to pre-order future DLC at a discount, which is precisely what the Rockstar Pass offers for L.A. Noire.

In order to prepare for each of the characters, compatibility packs will be released to all, even those who don't wish to buy the DLC. This will allow players to continue playing online without issue. That patch has worked miracles on the online. Once they fix up the desync problems, it will be amazing. Still, give me desyncs once in a while over that slow motion lag that the 360 version of MK was getting. Online was pretty much unplayable for me, now I'm just getting the occasional lag spike like every other fighting game. Good stuff.

I'm loving the free UMK3 alternates for Cyrax and Sektor. Skarlet is okay, not really a character I will be using much. I just bought her to keep the roster complete.

I don't think it is. By everything I've read the season pass is an X-Box Live exclusive. It's about time the 360 gets something exclusive from this game. No exclusive character and stage like the PS3 and the 360 didn't even get the demo...I better not hear any complaining from the PS3's MK gamers. The 360 got screwed big time until now, and even a 5 dollar discount doesn't really make up for it. I'd rather have an exclusive character and been able to play the demo on my 360.

Yeah, we had to wait an extra day. Sucks because I am leaving for New Orleans tomorrow, so that's a day less I get to mess with him before leaving for 4 days. I bought Kenshi at 5AM today, and he is MUCH better than I had even expected. They did my guy Kenshi some justice in the game. He will be a main weapon in my character arsenal as I once though. Not the easiest character to use though, but I like that.

Now I am waiting for Rain so that people won't pick Kenshi constantly when I pick him. I hate mirror matches so damn bad. When Rain is released, I will bring my Kenshi online to devastate the leaky fools. I don't plan on getting deep into Rain or any other DLC character release, but I will buy them.

Those free classic alternates that they keep releasing has been very cool. If Activision involved in this game we'd be paying 1200-1600 points for this package.

The video game industry is not a charity unfortunately. You buy the game for what it is, and you better know damn well going into buying a game that there will be DLC released later that costs money.

The price of 5 dollars per character is right on and more affordable than most DLC's for games. The costumes are notable because it's something that they could have easily used to justify a higher price.

The video game industry is not a charity unfortunately. You buy the game for what it is, and you better know damn well going into buying a game that there will be DLC released later that costs money.

The price of 5 dollars per character is right on and more affordable than most DLC's for games. The costumes are notable because it's something that they could have easily used to justify a higher price.
Its personaly just my opinion, I Don't play this game often so that is why I dont like the cost.

It's hard adjusting back into this game after playing other fighters.

I've been playing SF4 AE hardcore for the last month (and damn is it awesome) and decided to get back into MK. The whole notion of the block button and not having to hold back messes with you.

The classic unmasked Sub-Zero alternate has been confirmed for the Freddy DLC. Of course, even if you don't buy Freddy you will still be able to get the alternates for free with the compatibility pack.

It happened with the patch to fix the lag. The solution is deleting all your DLC and redownloading it from the market X-Box Live market place(won't have to pay again). If others don't do it, you will still see desyncs.

I play the hell out of MK still, just mostly on the 360. I will always be playing the most recent MK game. I do play it on my PS3 once in a while, but recently I have been letting my brother borrow my PS3 because the dude doesn't even have a DVD player in his apartment yet.
