Bismack Biyombo - the next big African prospect

Biyombo is an 18 year old 6'9" (and growing) PF/C prospect from the Congo.

He's got a huge wingspan and big time athleticism. Similar to Kevin Seraphin/Serge Ibaka as a prospect.

He's already getting minutes in the Spanish ACB after only 3 years in Spain (highest level outside of the NBA), well, well above any D1 school. He's averaging 6 points/5 rebounds/2.3 blocks per game in only 15 minutes of play against bigger, stronger, more experienced players.

Seems like a very quick learner as well, his game looks much more refined than the average African prospect.

That seems to be the trend at this point, these guys are coming to Spain earlier and earlier and turning into much more polished prospects than the raw Saer Sene/Cheikh Samb kind of players we've been accustomed to seeing in the last decade or so. Guys like Eyenga and Ibaka are the kinds of prospects we should get used to seeing.

This kid is only 18 years old, is smaller than Ibaka but have the same work ethic and is a tremendous athlete. I've seen it several times and also has excellent timing to block. In just one year has greatly improved his mid range shot, I think it might be a steal in the next draft.

I admit, he isn't the typical wirey, extremely raw player we see from africa. He has good size, an obvious hunger for the basket, seemingly good positioning (against lesser opponents at least). He is definitely a quick study. If he goes to a good team they will probably stash him overseas for another season or 2, if he goes to a bad team, we may see what he can do in the league right away.
I see more potential in him than past prospects who were high on potential.

Ibaka isnt really a post guy like Bismack tries to be and is built differently. Both are athletic shotblockers but Ibaka is a more impressive athletic specimen in my eyes and also has a jumper.

Never been on it in years. Dude is small, not a great athlete, and though he crosses the shit out of kats, his handle is actually quite sloppy. He will come off some team's bench to give them a change of pace offensive punch, nothing more. If you are relying on him to start and run your team, then your team is going nowhere.

That's highly unusual for a 18 year old in anyplace. They measure you every two months and if you show movement they say you are still growing. With the girth, length and low body fat that's a factor they probably throw in as well. He probably responded very well to nutritional supplements and figure he's on his way to seven feet.

I saw a low post move on the youtube video there where he showed perfect feet movement. Then I saw a feathery touch as well. Where did he learn the foot fundamentals over there? I mean are camps getting that good overseas? He seems very disciplined.

yeah the kid is NICE. i watched him play last saturday at the hoops summit game in portland oregon. out of everyon on the international squad he's the one that sticks out the most. There was also a cat from poland that was real good as well. he almost had a tripple double. he had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 9 block shots. he is so explosive you dont see he comming from anywhere then he's up blocking the shot or at least hindering the guy coming into the lane. I'm really interested in this prospect. I'm looking forward to seeing how he's going to turn out in the NBA, as in if he's going to be another African bust (Sene, Diop, Thabeet, etc) or is he going to develop into a solid African prospect (Mutumbo, Bol). Like other African prospects he has all the tools, the build, the athleticism, freakish wingspan.

In that video he actually seems to have a good form on his jump shot, he sort of looks clumsy and herky jerky with his movement and dribble though. His wingspan is what I think will keep him in the NBA for a while though.
