This list would be different if you asked me to name them last week, or next week.

"Voodoo"-D'Angelo
"I Want You"-Marvin Gaye
"Musical Massage"-Leon Ware
"Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite"-Maxwell
"For You"-Prince

What are yours?

*Note three of three of the albums feature direct influence from Leon Ware. He originally recorded what would become Marvin Gaye's "I Want You", and wrote material for "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite". It could also be argued that he had a large influence on D'Angelo's Voodoo as Leon did a lot of the behind the scenes work for some of D'Angelo's yodas.

props for the Leon Ware mention. These aren't my 5 fav but the 5 most recent I listened too. Guy's debut , Tony Toni Tonys The Revival , Van Hunt On The Jungle Floor , Gerald Levert Private Line and Marvin Gaye Here My Dear

I have a very limited soul listening history, but Voodoo and UHS would probably make my top five if I could even make one.

I think Joe Cocker could be considered soul.

Marvin Gaye - Here My Dear
Sam Cooke - Live At The Harlem Square Club
Al Green - Call Me
Bobby Womack - Fly Me To The Moon

If you are looking for something fairly contemporary Maxwell or D'Angelo would be a fine place to start. If you are looking for something 70s, I would recommend Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On as a starting point.
